The smell of burning plastic in the morning …

Nope these are the only markings

I do note, however, that it was “designed in California “.

“designed in California “…
I usually regard that as subtle humour…

So you have an uncertified module displaying obvious internal damage. A product from a US company…
…I hear lawyers starting to drool…

You should definitely place a call to their customer support.
…You should get great assistance…
From what I know, they are quite good on that side. Actually I’m quite surprised they are letting these out the door.

One reason they will want it back is to see what their contract manufacturer screwed up.
Have a couple pictures handy to send them, as soon as an engineer sees where the damage originated they will know it wasn’t anything you did.

I’ve seen these warned against over on Reddit a few times for this reason… not knocking AC infinity… I just bought a lot of their stuff… but that item specifically seems to have issues

I’m more interested in the extension cord. What gauge is it and how long was it?

Please, please, please, if you’re unsure about what you’re using, ask here. There are plenty of people willing to run the math and make sure you’re as safe as the rating.

ACI is a good company. I can’t imagine this is a design issue. Manufacturing issue, maybe, but not design.

My thoughts exactly. This is a new product, so there is a probability of manufacturing defects. The engineering and quality departments would be looking closely at any customer support issues.
That type of failure should not happen & will get immediate attention.

first, because it is a major blow rating wise and they need to get on top of it ASAP
second, because of liability and it isn’t certified, it’s a very big no-no.
(I was involved in product development at a power electronics manufacturer)

Have a good look at these prongs. Are you running hydro?

This is the issue. The prongs became two resistors and caused the unit to overheat:

This is what they should look like:

Good catch. To us, a 100w is an old incandescent lamp. Not that much power, 1 amperes max.
A heater is at zero resistance at cold.
I always put it into a normal outlet or strip with reset because it will draw a lot more at start, same with anything motorized (i meant at start will draw more power but not sure a grow fan pulls much more at all at start and usually always on…).

My ACI one osculation broke and didnt burn at all at least so not best design but didnt burn down. under 1 year old too.
I think u r right but you’d need more but smaller fans?

I sometimes will use two but generally only one. But it’s a strong one.

Just a common household non grounded cord, 6’ long, probably 18ga.

I think I know where you are going, but no, that’s a weird angle on the photo making them look corroded. The prongs on the failed ACI plug are clean and as shiny as the day they were made, no corrosion of any sort evident.

I just use a box fan pointing down, suspended from the top of my tent. No problems in 4 years.
