ThePotanist presents...pics!

New here! Wanted to throw up some pics of things I’ve grown. I’m a big fan of regional cannabis, so most plants aren’t gonna be from bigger breeders but stuff my friends and I have made over the years for our circle. If you got any questions let me know! If you got some local heirlooms, feel free to add!

Here’s some outdoor I helped a friend with recently! Very fruity and sweet smell and the buds cured beautifully.

I love growing outdoors, weeds, insects, and all. We had a really good lady beetle colony that established to keep aphids down and were able to also pull in lacewings, praying mantis, and mantis flies to help keep herbivores at bay.

Your lucky, outdoors is a nightmare here in Nova Scotia with a maritime climate. I am going to try and build a greenhouse like the one in the pic this year, at least it will help keep the boring bugs and aphids off the plants a bit more as well as all the rain off them.

Hell yeah! Hoop houses are awesome!! Shelter from rain wind and can extend your growing season a month or two for longer flowering plants

In the red circle are where trichomes touched when still malleable and fused together. They got pulled apart and thats what those strings are

Really looking forward to seeing what is going to come out of these. It looks like we will be moving in a few months so I can’t get too excited yet, but outdoor space may have just significantly improved.

Notorious! Notorious THC from Humboldt Seeds. Color is awesome, smells awesome, didn’t kill it on yield but to be fair I wasn’t after biomass. The odors coming off this make me think I was right for that.

Closing in on being done! This is a homemade cross of a “Brazilian landrace” and flu shot by dynasty/relic. Lot of diversity and some that haven’t done so well but real happy

A little look at my outdoor garden this year! The plants are a mix of genetics, the big one is the rizzy and we think it’s an MK-Ultra S1, the bush is a clone from the terp town rock that I wanted to see outdoors (so far no real pest issues or disease!), the tall one that is skinny is a gush mints from a freebie pack, and the then there are two short ones that are just some random seeds that were lying around.

I’ve been very happy with their development so far. Most of the size differences are planting date differences, spread out by a week. Growing in soil that’s been amended with high quality compost from our compost research project, only given water plus a little liquid fish emulsion every week for added health and microbial support. I lost my old conditioned soil during our move, so the fish emulsion helps with replenishing the microbial communities. Essentially I’ve focused on “growing” the microbial communities and soil, if they are healthy my plants can’t help but to be healthy also.

I’m going to plant some winter rye and clover in the pots right before harvest (a week or two before) so the pots can have some living cover that is cold hardy. Will help keep microbe populations happy and planting primarily grass will help break up any broadleaf specific disease cycles. Exudates from the plants will feed microbes and help build structure, the grass will be used as a green mulch next spring and that will add organic matter while the clover helps with nitrogen. Grass roots will also help scavenge phosphorous and other nutrients and will provide a nice fertility boost in the spring.

Edit to add: I’ve been using grass clippings as a pretty good mulch this year and it helped a lot during our real hot months. But I just topped everyone off with some compost so the grass is buried. Our compost has some good mulch in it already so that’s why the pots look like they have no cover. What was there got buried and what buried it functions as a mulch also.
