Tracker's garden

We finally passed the 100f+ days of summer. Today was high 83f and cloudy. The plants were looking super happy to get a break, and they were letting their aromas out. Mmmmmmmmm! Yummy!

The following two are the most standout so far. I imagine the others will be more interesting in a week or two with more bud development.

This BP has a sweet blueberry muffin aroma on it like i’ve never smelled before on cannabis

This HK was the first to start flower in mid to late July. It’s the furthest in bud development by far. Has old school dank weed smell. Already sticky.

I’d just carve out a cave in the undergrowth and move in down there, the house isn’t safe anymore

@Maddawg
Made the first application of pollen today. The first cross is…

HKx(C99xJH) =
(NYCD x Lemon Brulee)x(Cindy99 x Jack Herrer)

I am honored, Brother! :call_me_hand:

Can’t wait to see those beautiful seeded buds…

I should have another package headed your way tomorrow if all goes as planned.

We’ll see what happens. I used a clear tall kitchen trash bag. I layed it out with the intent to put pollen into one of the corners of the bag. I carefully dropped about half of what you sent into the corner, then twisted the corner up and put a twist tie on it tightly to make the corner into an isolated compartment for the pollen.

I pulled the bag over the intended branch and used twist ties to tighten it around the branch, so it would keep the pollen contained inside the bag.

After I had it tightened on the branch. I opened the pollen compartment to release the pollen into the bag, and I shook it all around.

Then, I used my watering wand set on mist to soak all the rest of the plants.

The HK is the farthest along in flower. It’ll prob be a week before I apply to other plants. I’ll be watching everything closely to see if pistils on other plants look pollinated.

For good measure, I applied the rest of the (C99xJH) pollen from @Maddawg . I took pics to show the application method. I have never attempted to selectively pollinate in my garden, so this is learning something new for me.

My intent is to minimize the likelihood of cross contamination between pollenated branches. I know that the probability cannot be reduced to zero.

If the female flower is ready to reproduce and the pollen source is viable, as far as I can reason, there are two things that reduce the probabilty of getting pollinated: 1) distance and 2) physical obstructions to the movement of pollen.

Since distance is not on my side, I must make a good obstruction. In addition, I will selectively pollinate branches on the farthest extents of the plants. I’m not really concerned about pollination of buds that were not intended for polination. I’m fine with seedy outdoor, but that will give a good indication of how well the pollen applications were contained to their intended branches.

In my kitchen, I prepare a tall trash bag. I carefully inspect it for holes. I fill it with air, twist the open end, and push on it to see that the air does not leak out easily.

I position the bag to place pollen into one of the bottom corners. The pollen was placed in a small zip baggie and then placed into the corner of the trash bag, with the zip baggie still closed. This was done with the intent to contain the pollen within the bag as much as possible so that stray pollen would not be released as I position the bag on the branch. Then, I twist the bag and use a twist tie to close that corner of the bag.

When I slide the bag over the intended branch, I twist up the open end and use twist ties to hold it on the branch. Then I remove the twist tie that isolates the pollen to the corner of the trash bag.

I included qtips in the isolated corner to help apply pollen. The qtips were not used for the intended purpose, but they did help to open the zip baggie that contained the pollen. Opening the little zip baggie was challenging, but I was abke to do it with patience and careful maneuvering.

Then I slid the baggie up to the highest position inside the trash bag, removed the folded paper with pollen inside, and proceed to slide the paper all over the buds. Then I shook it around. Hopefully, that gave the branch a good dusting.

I applied the pollen at sunset and left the bag on the branch overnight. In the morning, I used a mister attachment on a garden hose to mist the buds on the rest of the garden bedore removing the bag. As I removed the bag, I had the mister in one hand spraying into the bag as I removed the twist tie holding it on the branch. I thoroughly soaked the branch and inside of the bag as I removed it from the branch.

If you have a better method for isolating pollen application, or if you can suggest improvements to the process, please comment.

The other plants still have 2 to 3 weeks until I apply pollen.

@Maddawg it looks like the HK branch was well pollinated by your (C99xJH) most of the pistils have turned brown, and there were a whole lot of them. We’ll know in a few weeks if there are swelling ovules.

That there is some exciting news !

I was worried that it has been so hot down here that it might cause problems with the pollen during shipping.

When I saw the branch that you had selected to pollinate my first thought was there are going to be a Shart ton of seeds on that branch.

I have a feeling there may be some:
Hell’s Kitchen = (NYCD x Lemon Bruleé) x (H99) = (C99 x Jack Herer)
beans floating around the OG in the near future :call_me_hand:

Garden looks great @Tracker. Gonna pop a squat for the remainder of the grow.

Just a thing to look out for bro……
With all the crowding you have going on I would be diligent with looking out for PM and other molds. Anyplace that has little air flow and in shade is very susceptible. I noticed it on one of my plants today.
May want to thin a little bit for better airflow and use a fungicide spray to protect them……

Yeah, I need to go through and do another defol this weekend. I’ve been using Southern Ag GFF.

It’s been 9 days since I posted pics of the whole garden.

The BDxTOG is developing nicely. It has a whole bunch of tops. The aroma is getting much stronger on the gas.

The (SKxLK)x(Z3x(WCxBM)) is getting a little frost on the sugar leaves. It has a pleasant herbal baked food aroma, not too powerful right now.

The HK is the furthest into flower and only one pollinated so far. The pollinated branch has lots of brown pistils. Can’t see seed development yet, so fingers crossed. It has an old school dank weed smell, like diesel with a little pine forest undertone. Not fruity or lemony at all.

The (IBxWC)XAHK is just now getting multiple pistils popping out at the nodes. It stretched a lot over the past few weeks, so it’s over 7ft on the tallest tops. I have high hopes for this one. Hopefully it flowers fast.

The Blue Peaches continues to draw me to its sweet blueberry muffin aroma. It has a bunch of tops and the internodal spacing and bud development looks really good. Starting to frost nicely. I’ll probably keep this cut around.

The MLK4x(Z3x(WCxBM)) is a very nice looking plant. Sturdy stems, lots of tops, frost is starting to develop. It has a strong lemon pine cleaner aroma.

The PC is the second to last to start flowering. It’s just starting bud development. It is at least 8ft tall. I’m hoping for some giant colas on this one.

Those PC’s are so tall. I stretched my arm up there to try and get a picture, but I could only reach the lower bud development. They look like they’ll be nice big colas though.

Im thinking It must be the Powerplant in her causing the stretch. Cheese leans more Indica, the PC is more of a 50/50 mix. Keep those pics coming Brother!
