I’ve definitely tried to touch a trichome while under the scope!
The diameter of a 28 gauge needle (the tiny ones for insulin use) are about 3-5x larger than a trichome head!
If there was a way to inject something into the trichome cap, it would probably involve freezing the cap first because the cap “skin” is basically just semi-hardened resin and bursts/tears when damaged. Whatever is used to inject material into the cap would need to do it with precision as to not move around and tear the “skin” and just leave a tiny 5-10 micron hole, and also the added material would probably burst cap due to pressure too!
Thanks! OG has a 700kb limit on linked images like it’s 2003. The full resolution zoom videos are really great in 1080p, I may need to make YouTube account.
That is pretty cool, thanks for the hard work.
If you need any photoshop stuff, just ask and see if I have what ya need.
I hold a lot of differnt things,
Stack testing continues. On this stem image I tried to use as few stops as possible while maintaining ok-ish quality. For some size context, that stem is 1.50mm in diameter. This was taken with a different lens than the trichome shots. Pretty cool to see that everything is covered in tiny waxy resinous fur.
For each of those seven videos I extract 32 consecutive frames to TIFF format (each is a noisy grainy mess), then register (align) them because things move under the scope quite a bit under the hot lights. Then I merge those 32 images to a single image in Fiji using the Z-Projection function.
What an EXCELLENT thread this is! As Jesse Pinkman might say: “Science!”
Thank you to all contributors, but especially to @LD50 for the time and talent (not to mention investment in equipment) on display here, and shared with the community for the edification of all.
hmmm I wonder if extreme temps while growing has an effect on the terpene levels. This guy I know who used to grow flavorless weed always grew at like 30C.
@Heliosphear Hey there, are you planning to do calendar once again? I think I’ll try to get one of these trichome shots on there! I’ll be on the lookout for any information.
