Triple Purple Rhino: The Lone Survivor

Well… I made a very impulsive move yesterday morning and dropped all of my Triple Purple Rhino seeds from Doc Dank Seeds into some water for soaking. I aquired these seeds in an Auction on DC Seed Exchange and was in a bidding war at the last minute for them.

Totally going against my grow schedule as these were scheduled around the first of the new year. Part of my decision to do this was I found out over Labor day weekend from the Doc himself that these seeds date back to 2017 time. Knowing these seeds are 7 going on 8yrs old and not 100% sure how they were stored before being in my possession, I had this feeling I should get these in water now instead of later.

So far we are approaching about 36hrs in tap water and reminding myself to be patient as they are old seeds. Fingers crossed atleast two pop open and are a male and female :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

If any of you have some pro tips please let me know. Purchasing these was a major risk as I knew its a possibility that none of them could be viable… the things we do for cannabis, right?!

Unfortunately my Growmies I have some bad news about the Triple Purple Rhino… out of the ten seeds I was only able to get one to the seedling stage. After attempts of soaking, moving to a bed of worm castings with moist towel and heating pad it showed more signs of life for all ten seeds. Shortly after several of the seeds stopped growing their tap root while three showed strong signs of growing. After maintaining a constant 75°f, humidity around 80%, and shielding from light two out of the three promising seeds stopped growing.

Upon inspection of the other seeds that stopped growing I tried sticking them back in a plastic bag with the moist towel but still showing no signs of growth… :sob:

With the lone survivor of the ten it is thriving and looking happy so far. This little one is chilling with my BanHam till I can clear my smaller tent thatvis holding my male Hawaiian Lite F2.

If this seedling is a female, I may do what I can to make clones and attempt to make feminized seeds. If a male, then I am going to collect all the pollen possible and figure what to do from there.

I did reach out tonthe place I aquired these seeds to see if they are able to source for more of the Triple Purple Rhino seeds but I am sure its a long shot obtaining more.

Thanks for catching up Growmies and wish I had a better update here…

I finally have a clean home for the lone TPR! I guess I shouldnt say lone as they have plenty of tent mates for the time being. Since I was only able to get one seed to grow I decided to jump on the next round and keep my grow schedule going. Till I find out the sex of this TPR I have a few ideas up in the air on what route to take. We will see in the next 4-5weeks I guess

I might be over my head working with three different cultivars at one time but I am up for the challenge :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

All the best with the adventure. Ill take a seat for the show

TPR has been looking a little on the pale side and can see why as the solo cup they started in is no longer viable. The root production though has me pleased!

Thats my little old lady Snow Pee. She demands cuddles from humans and doesnt want anything to do with my to other cats.

I loosened up the roots more than you see in the picture. The starting soil was promix HP but decided this plant deserves some quality soil thatvhas the nutrients to bring it back to life more. So TPR is not in a mix thats roughly 30% Happy Frog and 70% Ocean Forest from Fox Farm that has some extra mycorrhizal inoculant to keep those roots growing nice. Gave TPR its first dose of Cal/Mag too.

If you are curious, that is a little moss agate shaped in the form of Squirtle. Sometimes I ask my Witchy friends their advice on plant life and this is what they suggested. If it actual helps or not doesnt matter to me. Its a pokemon shaped rock which has my love!

Till next time Growmies! :call_me_hand::heart_hands::vulcan_salute::woman_mage:

I think TPR is adjusting well in its new home! I am getting vibes this plant is a male… What do you all think?

TPR is getting cought up in all the growth with its tent mates. They are sitting in the front row, middle plant. This plant is just about 6 weeks out from germination. The six on the right is the Staff of Life I have going in a seperate thread. The four wraping around on the left is a sneak peak of something else in the works.

I still think TPR is going to be a male. Since this tent is getting crowded I am think of place the si gle plant in my 2x4 and start flowering.

I moved TPR into my flowering tent with my Hawaiian Lites as the 4x4 was getting too cramped.

Glad I did because I was waiting to see if TPR was a male or female and I have found out that TPR is …:drum::drum::drum::drum::drum::drum:… A FEMALE…

This will probably be the only time in any grows I do from here on out to experience disappointment in having a female plant :joy:

I was hoping the single plant was a male so I could collect as much pollen as possible and preserve it. Now I am at a point where I could either

A) keep it as a mother plant and experiment with cloning and gain that experience.

B) Throw some DLA 5.3 or Holy Hand Grenade OR accept a generous donation of some strong purple cultivar from a member in our community.

C) Make feminized seeds of it.

D) Grow it out and enjoy the flower for my selfish self… I cant keep a straight face after typing that sentence out. I would probably give some to my locals to enjoy as it would never be around again in its pure from

I have some thinking to do and would appreciate any ides or input from you Growmies!!

HAAALLPP!!!

@JonPott , I may be bias because I would like to get some seeds but I think this would be your best option.

Grow her out and make clones. STS spray one of them for seeds  , hit 1 with Gibberellic Acid and turn it to a male for Pollen, use the rest for breeding projects.

My consultation fee for the above awesome recommendation would be seeds please… lol

I will look into all of this for sure!!!

Yea, you should try something to get some seeds. That way you have plenty to grow for a long time.
What part of the Hemisphere are you in… :earth_americas:

North America. I moved TPR into my 2x4 and adjusted the tent settings to support a mother plant and keep it as that for now. I think I will go the route of pulling some clones and give changing the sex a try. I definitely want to repro this some how with the original genetics the cultivar offers.

I do have another very purple dominant cultivar on the way I ordered that states “Purple Rhino” as part of the parent plants. I couldnt get a clear answer from the breeder if it was TPR by chance. That will be my back up plan if the sex changes dont work.

I may message you in the near future about doing all this and you will for sure get some seeds if all is successful in either making S1s or F2s.

I have Triple Purple Rhino x Hickok Haze seeds you can have if you want to do a cross.

I would gladly and humbly accept if you are willing. You would for sure get seeds in return!!!

I have decided over the next few weeks as I start making more room I will attempt at making clones of the TPR. These clones will help me gain that experience and will attempt at making feminized seeds along with some crosses.

The cultivars I selected for the crosses would be back crossing if I am not mistaken. Due to @SCJedi generous offer of TPR x Hickcok Haze and this cultivar I selected from Hazeman seeds which states Purple Rhino as one of the parent plants. Regardless, I will attempt at making something beneficial from this mother plant.
