Using a mutant male for breeding?

Trainwreck hybrid with a local cut i don’t know (cal), he used it (BW) in various “test lines”.

That’s very cool - it’s usually a mutation of the apical meristem which is that little group of cells at the tip of the stem that grow out into new plant material. Typically the meristem is circular making for more or less round stems, but a stem fasciates when the AM is out of round, causing the stem to grow in roughly the shape it takes.

That makes sense, since this thing sprouted with only a single growth node. It’s been a strange little plant, but it’s healthy.

I had one a while ago, less extreme than yours, that got me doing a little reading up on it. Like you say the plant is otherwise healthy which is typical, the main issue apparently is that some fasciated stems tend to break a little more easily if they get heavy.

This guy’s main stem is suuuuuper massive and wide, if he were taller I could probably turn him into a walking stick lol.

I put him in another room, so I can try and collect pollen as he drops it. None of his flowers have opened yet, so I caught him just in time before he jizzed everywhere LOL.

I’m going to hit a few lower branches on the girls, since they generally don’t amount to much anyway. I think white rhino would be a good mate for him, as I think they would complement each other nicely.

These are just for fun, of course, and I am curious to see what happens.

I moved him next to one of my grow racks that have 24/0 lighting, and gave him a haircut to make collecting his pollen a bit easier. I also took about a half dozen flowering branches, and put them in a bottle of water- then put down a sheet of waxed paper and carefully laid the bottle at an angle so that when the flowers open, the pollen can fall and be easily collected.

The strangest thing about this very strange beast is that half of him showed a whorled trifoliate phyllotaxy, and the other half didn’t.

I would absolutely love some of the made seeds from it, a fav strain I haven’t had in many years was dream queen(space queen x blue dream) to stumble across one of those parents I haven’t seen in years must be a sign! Too bad pollen was around soon, I woulda thrown it at the blue dream x blueberry cookies I just finished flowering out. Always up for trades too!

Interesting…the strain I have throws the 4-5 node thing. Yours seems to not really have any nodes just throwing stems and leaves randomly…:slightly_smiling_face: I would definitely like some beans when you have them…

I wonder if this would be a good trait for a bonsai plant, given it’s atypical and seemingly random growth pattern. (Plus that flattened out stem shape is fantastic!) What growth did secondary branches exhibit?

Damn he’s literally wraped by secondaries in a beautiful spiral :astonished:

Damn bro, what a fascinating creature. Bet this trait is very Recessive and you might need to self him to get any females with the trait.

Pz :v:t2:

I’m not entirely sure this is a trait that would be beneficial. As you can see, the top is curled down into a hook, and that top is a jumbled up mess. I would be irate if the main cola of my ladies did that, because it’s a prime candidate for budrot.

Anything that I create will be freely available to anyone, that’s how it should be. :green_heart:

Half of the secondaries showed a whorled trifoliate growth pattern, and the other half were basically normal.

This thing is WEIRD. It’s almost like two different plants got mashed together. It smells good, though, and it is just intriguing to look at.

I have several other potential mates for him; orange goji x amnesia haze, grape pie x snow lotus, poison daddy, and white rhino. I also have an autoflowering Dirty Martini and a photo MMXX from Twenty20 that I might hit with pollen too, because why not lol

White Rhino is turning out to be a great big beast of a tree, and I think his squatty stature might be helpful. It will be interesting to see what happens- maybe something cool, or maybe nothing at all.

Wait a sec, was that white rhino u speak of one of the ones from what I sent out to the community?

Sounds great! I have some more projects planned for this fall and winter, including playing with the RKS beans I won and playing with some C99 that Uncle Ben was kind enough to share. I have all kinds of crazy ideas and it will be a lot of fun seeing what I can do with these things.

I keep holding out hope that I can get even one of my black mamba x Bogglegum seeds to sprout, because they are priceless (in my opinion lol). In the meantime I have cuttings from all my girls stored in my fridge.

Yeah, I think they’re yours! It’s been a great plant, but lord she’s got the STRETCH going on!

Very awesome! Some really nice sweet smells I remember with her! Males don’t play around either and end up really nice uniform studs! But ya, I remember they went from about 2 and a half feet to about 5-6 when they flowered so def expect that stretch, great 9 week finisher too
