Every thing you have looks good. Collection can be cumbersome but you have the idea. I would separate your males as much as possible. The reason being cross contamination of your pollen. When you begin to breed you may have pollen from your different males mixed and you lose control of the projects . Have fun with it brother, it’s a journey.
Cheers
Ignore this ,
How big is that tray and how much did it cost?
Ha, funny things OGers pick up on! A good tray can be hard to find!
They’re 12x24" garden trays from Menards.
Correction now that I found the link, 11×21"
Sorry tagged the wrong post, Yeh I have those, it was the pic above yours, of a tray in the bottom of the box I was interested in.
Totally my bad, didnt see which post you tagged it too, still early. No coffee yet!
No it was my bad I tagged your post by mistake, before reading the posts further down
I need 2 coffees in the morning to function properly still half way through the first . Cheers man.
My first pollen collection ever today. Got a fair amount of Sunshine Daydream and a lot less of the Blue OG x Snow Lotus. I tapped onto paper and into a shot glass. I liked the shot glass move a bit better, seemed like some pollen was left on the paper. The Blue OG x Snow Lotus was really just a coating inside the shot glass so I just rubbed 2 q tips on the inside of the glass to collect the pollen. After dumping out what was in the shot glass, I did the same w the SSDD. I think I’ll be pollenating Sunshine Daydream tonight!
Gave the plants some water, will check them in a few days and hopefully get some more. Cackleberry is definitely a bit behind. Being in the garage and pretty cool temps at night, these plants are taking a long time to open up.
Here’s the female donor. In flowering since 4/20 (I think).
Before and after a trim, both before pollination. 1 pic has the tags for the 2 branches I’m pollenating. One pic showing what i think is Ca deficiency. After up potting to the 7 gal I thought she was gonna pull out of it. These SSDD are pretty finicky.
Back in her home, branches all bagged up, before the rest go back into the flowering room. Fingers crossed I only get seeds on the branches I brushed w pollen!
So I sprayed the female I just pollinated and bagged before putting her back in the room, then sprayed the others in flower far enough along to matter. The plants only 1 week into flower I’m not worried too much about. Did I move everything back in too soon? I think theres little risk of pollen flying around, if anything I didnt have enough on the qtip for the 4 buds each strain I tried to knock up. I figured if I had excess I may have issues with it falling out of the bag and flying around. What say you OG? Should I have done something different?
On a side note, I think i may drop this SSDD mom. She seems overly finicky w the nutrient issues and sensitivity to high light levels. I male I saved was starved for nutes comparatively and thrived. I think I’ll move on and come back to the SSDD later in search for a new mom.
The malebox has been dismantled for awhile, was a good exercise. I was juggling a lot at the time, so keeping it up and my healthy fear of the pollen caused me to not get nearly as much as I expected. But looks like my first pollination attempt has been successful. These are the @GrowHard unknown mother 5-c (Blue snow) males pollinated to my sunshine daydream female. Got 46 seeds from 1 qtip I used to scrape the container I collected the pollen in and pollianted like 4 little buds. Not bad! Pretty cool to think this is probably the first time anyone has crossed these 2 strains.
Still have the branch that was pollinated w the SSDD male to go thru for seeds, will probably let the buds dry another day or 2 before I do.
Since I got 40+ seeds off the few branches I pollinated, and I dont have room to run these right now- I figured id put a 10 pack up for grabs.
Whoever responds first that they want them will get a pack of my first attempt at crossing: Sunshine Daydream x (Blue OG x snow lotus). Only stipulation is I ask if you grab these, please dont sit on them, id love to seen them grown out.
I’ll have these in the mail tomorrow with some other stuff I need to go to the post office for.
Got a message, these are spoken for, faster than I expected!
If you dont want to pollinate the entire female is it best to bag and cover the branches that you pollinated or bag and cover the parts you dont want pollinated?
Let say I want to pollinate everything but the main cola. What is the best approach?
I’ll take a stab at this- for your scenario I think about covering the cola you don’t want pollinated, but then id worry id be smashing my plant’s nicest bud…
I would say if you’re planning to be selective, cover what you pollinate, vs the cola. And if you only need 50-100 seeds, 2 or 3 branches should give you a bunch.
BUT this was my first time pollinating so…there are probably others who have actually encountered a similar scenario.
I would like to get tons of seeds to give away. I didn’t want to advertise my plan just incase I fail. I got very lucky finding what looks to be the perfect female and one of the males looking particularly strong. I wasn’t really expecting to get this lucky.
Would be great if I could pollinate the hell out of the nice girl with the dominant stud but would really like to have the cola for myself if possible.
The strain is norstar banana danish (chem d x banana og) the female i selected has great structure short purple fan stems and vigorous lower growth. The male is a runaway selection
I’ve taken a 2 liter bottlecut the bottom out and feed the branch I want to pollenate throu the top of the plastic bottle
Makes a great cover
Or maybe just keep a small plant in like a 1 gal aside, out of the room during pollination so you can enjoy those buds unseeded and pollinate the rest?
A little misunderstanding- this pack of SSDD x (Blue OG x Snow Lotus) is back available, first person who wants it- let me know and it’ll go out tomorrow.
