What are you watching? (TV & Movies)

Yes, for real! I’m not a fan of Machine Gun Kelly but his flame power looked awesome

Is that Joseph Gordon Levitt (or whatever his name is, from 3rd Rock from the Sun when he was young).

It is. He’s good in it too. Great acting, and great action scenes

This is a great breakdown of how they worked the powers; I dig how they tried to make the ridiculousness based on the natural world in some cases…

Pearl was one of the strangest flicks I’ve seen . Quite the acting by main actress . I actually liked it a lot

If you have not seen “X” you should. It came out first. Pearl is a Prequel. I actually enjoyed X better. The actress played both parts of Pearl and Maxxine.
I believe a sequel is coming this year called Maxxxine.

I watched X and it was ok. Not sure I’m going to bother with Pearl but a part of that is on principal if that helps. The description says it’s the origin story of “the iconic villain from X”. Shit’s been out a year and it’s a horny old lady, nothing iconic going on here  Also you can’t self appoint something iconic!

Another description that’s been bothering me lately is for the show BMF about the Black Family Mafia gang. The current description says something like “the inspiring story of the two brothers who started the Black Family Mafia”. Really?! They started a street gang! “Inspirational”?! It’s actually something I could see myself watching and enjoying but are we really living in a time where starting a murderous gang is inspirational? I’m just waiting to see a new Charles Manson movie where the description says " The inspirational true story of how a man convinced others to murder for him" :grimacing:

Ah!
Not a fan, I see. Maybe X is too bloody for you. Or too much nudity and implied sex.
I see it not as just a horny old lady.
To me, a nymphomaniac who always wanted to be a big star. She missed the boat and got old. Now she is pissed at everyone young and pretty.
Did you know Mia Goth played both the old woman, Pearl, and the young one, Maxine.

Did you understand the ending??? I never saw it coming.
Tip : You have to wait until the middle of the credits.

I am an aficionado of bloody so not that. If anything for her limited physical ability in what she could really do to anyone it was plenty bloody but not over the top. I didn’t see the after credits part but I just watched it and beside it being the same actress it’s nothing I didn’t see gather. The fact that the murderously horny old gal was further fueled by unfulfilled dreams and delusions of grandeur was implied pretty well in the movie.

Unless I’m missing something further the whole revelation involving the tv at the end didn’t really change anything. It was more just a thing to go “oh shit” about cause it was unexpected but didn’t have any real bearing on anything.

I wouldn’t say I’m not a fan though cause it was worth the watch and I’d recommend it if someone asked. Just don’t think she’s an “iconic villain” and seeing her do it when younger I could take or leave. They’re making a sequel about Maxine too I see which might be more interesting because why?

No Way! I caught a glimpse, thought it was reruns of That 70’s Show. Not a new installment :exploding_head: IDK if I’ll check that out quite yet?

I’ve found a treasure trove of post apocalyptic indies on YT… EMP 333 days, The Other Side of Darkness, Night Into Day, Hostiles and Refuge : American Apocalypse. I’ve learned if most comments imply “better” ‘than the high budget Hollywood garbage’ it’s worth watching, even w ads.

I liked the Terrifier movies! Haven’t seen Barbarian but the synopsis sounds good.

Might want to watch the trailer before you get too excited. It’s looking like a Gen Z show with some 90s stuff thrown in the background. Definitely aimed towards kids these days rather than people who were actually around in the 90s. I’m bummed.
