(SHUDDERS) “… must have been dark times those 90’s …”
Anyone that grew-up in the 90’s can look back now and understand why this was the general theme of the 90’s…
…cause this would clearly distract you from all the shit that was going down.
just starting Kaleidoscope on netflix today.
So far the trailer I’ve seen looks like it could’ve been That 80s Show as easily as That 90s Show, except that they didn’t realize the concept of the show wasn’t nearly as popular as the stars when the 80s bombed. This time they did, which is why they brought back the old stars for cameos; granted, I only saw about 2 minutes, but it looks like the show is centered around Red & Kitty’s basement again and they’re gonna be a big part of it, with all the “kids” from the first show making cameos. Does it make it great TV? Of course not, it’s just another unimaginative sequel. Doesn’t mean it won’t manage to be at least mediocre, and that’s really all they need. It’s a sitcom, not exactly rocket surgery. Everything I expected from a 70s show sequel that they miserably failed at the first time they tried it. I’ll probably watch it and laugh at least once or twice; depends just how hard they push the DEI agenda. I don’t exactly have a problem with the idea, but I don’t want to be bombarded with propaganda when I think I’m getting entertainment.
The DEI (actually had to look up the acronym) is strong. 90’s suburban Wisconsin doesn’t seem like a melting pot (and from what I’ve seen online with people talking about the show it very much wasn’t). The line from me is organic diversity vs forced and the show screams forced. It also screams generic nothing characters because they were more concerned with the cornucopia than with personality.
The only thing I remember from the 80s show was Dennis Reynolds from IASIP telling the chick with the mohawk that he was at a Black Flag concert while she was still listening to Dexys Midnight Runners
If I drew the line at forced diversity, I’d never watch anything ever again. I don’t like it much, but I don’t think I’m going to change the world with my personal cancel-culture crusade against forced diversity.
I’ll at least watch it and try to keep an open mind… if it’s just too much to ignore even when I’m willing to watch and enjoy, I’ll stop watching it. As long as the show’s not constantly reminding me how diverse they are to dramatize the point, and the characters are even a little bit relatable, it’s probably good enough to at least measure up to other modern shows. Not sure how much that’s saying, but I’m not quite willing to just give up on everything coming out after 2002 just yet.
I don’t know that they’re pushing some agenda beyond marking the boxes initially for what that’s worth. I’m way more bummed about the lack of any discernible personality in the kids.
Well that’s going on the list.
I stumbled across a movie on Showtime the other day where the description was “teens on the Jersey shore steal from rich tourist homes” or something like that. Being from the Jersey shore this definitely caught my interest so I gave it a shot and wondered if anything was actually shot in Jersey. Whelp it starts out at the Stewarts Root Beer stand in my town and proceeds to have a ton of scenes shot there. They got a few things right like calling the tourists “Bennys” and explaining the acronym. One thing that got me was that part of the plot was that a local millionaire had died and had a cabin on some forested peninsula. His name was Xavier Meyers which is fictional but they said he owned a line of charter fishing boats which are not only real but were part owned by an old buddy of mine’s dad. Kind of weird but neat to see shit you grew up around.
This is me watching “Half-Baked”
Amazon video though!
Football, then football, and then more football.
Was it good ? Have it here not watched
That guy looks ruffer than a cob.
