What grinders are we all using, if any

I have a chromium crusher but I feel like grinders kill the taste and knock of all the trichs. Scissors gang for life fam.

I picked up this United Machining grinder last year. Pic was when it was new. Itā€™s made from FDA food grade 303 stainless steel. Itā€™s got some heft to it and shouldnā€™t flake over time. Held together with rare earth magnets so you donā€™t have to work your hands or wear the threads down screwing/unscrewing to get to the bud every time you grind. It has a removable reducer that makes the holes smaller to get a very fine grind. I donā€™t use it myself. takes 2x as long to grind it up. Replaceable kief screens with different micron levels, and the whole kief sifter is removable in case you donā€™t care about collecting kief, and it also makes it easy to empty the bud thatā€™s in it after it has been ground. Beveled edge in the lowest chamber prevents buildup that normally occurs in grinders with 90* corners, and allows you to really grab a pinch.

I got it because I didnā€™t want something made from aluminum, and it is held together with magnets instead of threads that wear out. This should be the last grinder I ever buy lol.

Iā€™ve had a few of the plastic ones. I had problems with the wood ones also.

Damn, thatā€™s easily the nicest grinder Iā€™ve ever seen. The details really make it! It does sure look like a buy once cry once option. How much did that guy run you?

People might like this, the first patent in the US for an herb and tobacco grinder, from 1905:

Thatā€™s the ā€œ1905ā€ reference made by this RYOT company, whose Fly grinder I used to have and loved before it got stolen:

I love the square body on that! Bet that thing was easy as hell to twist! Why arenā€™t more grinders square shaped? Seriously makes more sense!

They used to be around $165, but I preordered at a discounted price of $140. Listed on the site now at $175 holy crap! I had to wait 6 months for mine because the magnets were backordered at the time. The other ones I was looking at was the Hoj Klip, the Phoenician, the Herb Ripper, and the QUBUS.

The QUBUS is a lot like the one I got as far as design and itā€™s like $100. Itā€™s aluminum, held together with magnets, and has the removable basket like mine does.

The Hoj Klip is fully magnetic and has a more scissor-like way that it grinds. Itā€™s pretty cool! Def check out a vid on it.

The Herb Ripper is Stainless Steel and comes as 3 or 4 piece option. It uses a threaded design, but the threads are super hefty. You can swap out the sifting screens and the grinder plates for course-fine grinds but it comes out to be more expensive than the UM after everything. Itā€™s def a nice piece though.

Not sure if this was for me, but I made it. Happy to make some for others on the side if anyone is interested :grinning:

@Reefer I was referring to the United Machining grinder @VAhomegrown posted, but tell us more about yours! You made it yourself?

Yeah it was great, I might get another one just because it was such a good lightweight travel grinder compared to my Mendo Mulcher. I was a bread baker at the time and had a ton of RSIs in my hands and wrists that gripping round grinders set off, and this helped a lot.

Made with resin, pigment, mica powder and metal flake. Iā€™m going to start drilling them out on the bottom and make the so they can be placed on a mason jar lid so I can grind straight a jar if needed. Itā€™s nice to look at something beautiful while I grind beautiful nugs :yum:

So the whole thing is made of polyester resin? That must have been a really tricky mold to make, did you use an existing grinder as a mold template or a 3D print or something? Or is it just printed in resin?

Itā€™s a standard mold with lots of layering. Iā€™m a wood worker and artist and this was a fun experiment with getting to know epoxy resin for the first time

If Iā€™m not being lazy and using my coffee grinder for everyday smoking I use my HOJ Klip mini for my stuff I wanna keep trichomes undamaged on. It cuts with a blade vs grinding and crushing, everything comes out nice, fine, and fluffy vs a powder. Thereā€™s other brands but this was the first I came across a year or two ago so I splurged and spent the 120$ on it.

I agree with that. They hurt my wrist. We sound like a bunch of whining hens. No itā€™s true they actually hurt my wrist twisting them. I had one one time that was an old coffee grinder had to crank. I see new ones like that now. @TestOfOath I donā€™t blame you man. Some of those metal grinders can be almost $100. I donā€™t have a problem spending a little extra. The coffee grinder is only for making edibles. I just chunk it in. Iā€™ll break it up a little bit but not too much. And I donā€™t like a lot in my bowl either I like just enough.

my Christmas present showed up today! Waring WSG130 from Wasserstromā€™s. Of course itā€™s a gift from myself  Never used a machine grinder on herb before but I think I"m going to like it

Looks like you get your moneyā€™s worth, they include 3 grinding bowls with lids, stainless steel just like I wanted. Very satisfied with this purchase! No more killing my weak-ass arthritic fingers when I need to vape some herbā€¦

Nice! I have been eyeing that one for a minute now since I could use it a lot in the kitchen for grinding grains, spices, and herbs too. Iā€™ve used older versions of it in bakeries and kitchens before. Itā€™s easy enough to get $5 Krups or Braun whirlybird coffee grinders at the thrift store and I have a few, but the interchangeable, washable cups and greater volume/power on that are definitely on another level.

Didnā€™t think of that! My late-80ā€™s CD player is finally dying, been meaning to stop by the thrift store to pick up another one, they usually have 3-4 on the shelf
