What he said. Commercial effect on breeding

Forgive my ignorance but is this what they would have called “spice” back in the day?

Yeah I don’t know what the hell it is but crazy to think we are nearing 2025 and a couple of states in my area still look at cannabis like some sort of syringe loaded with pure white China smack. I try to tell people please attempt to grow a small plant in your closet I know there is a small risk but man it’s easy and very rewarding don’t bother with that crap

Synthetic cannabinoids with a lot of other garbage mixed in. There are some interesting documentaries on YouTube especially coming from the UK they had a huge problem and probably still do with people getting highly addicted. Nasty stuff

This is something I know nothing about so I was curious.

No spice is random plant matter sprayed with synthetic THC analog’s. They fit in the same slot as thc but the molecules are different.

Delta-8 is CBD/hemp flower sprayed with delta-8 THC extracted from other CBD/hemp flowers.

Cool thanks for clarifying.

Great point, I’m reading more and more how terpenes interact with THC to form the different high profiles. Pretty fascinating stuff, above my pay grade.

Haha yeah I’m certainly no expert but try to read and learn when there’s an interesting article. Here’s a basic chart that’s helpful.

I don’t put much weight into the terpenes at all. There’s around 144 identified cannabinoids in cannabis, and more that we haven’t identified. I’d think those would have way more to do with it.

Especially when breeding for high Delta9 THC/THCa specifically. Likely means a reduction and/or elimination of quite a few others…

One of the more interesting interactions i know of is from the cannabinoid CBC. CBC on its own has little intoxicating effects but it prevents the inactivation of your CB1 receptors, resulting in longer lasting more intense effects from THC.

Im trying to find the source again but I’ve previously read concentrations of CBC were highest in the 1980s and have been decreasing over time. The decline was suspected to be from a focus on THC over other cannabinoids.

My buddy used to manage a dispensary in Denver and explained it like this: Regardless of what anything actually tests at, there is no way theyre going to list the $100 oz at a higher THC than the $300 oz. He told me about a few loopholes/ tricks shady companies would use to fudge the numbers or get dirty weed to market. Whole testing industry is kinda just an unregulated joke

It’s been a while since I’ve even been to a dispo. … but there were a couple brands I’d gravitate towards when money was tight, they’d sell “smalls” (the popcorn nugs) at a cheaper rate than their “Buds” (top flowers). To my recollection it was like 35/eighth instead of 50-60/eighth for by & large the same weed, just uglier :man_shrugging:  lol but yeah, as a default my common asks were “what’s the tastiest thing in here under 50” or thee ol’ “whats the strongest for the cheapest”

Legalization meant that there would millions of growers, each looking for something different. I was no different. The weed I grow suits me.

The first time I smoked good Thai Stick, it fried my mind. I doubt the same weed would these days.

All the Old Head aren’t getting fermented or preserved style imports anymore which is a large change in import effect.

I know a lot of Old Heads and some say, “All the candy bud sucks.” Right, fair enough. Sometimes you give your buds Dad his first Dab at 70 and he coughs while yelling at yall. “TF that’s not weed, what the hell yall smoking.” And you’ll hear the too strong comment. I know a few people in California Mountains running very old genetics as well. Old hippie types who do not care about hype. “It’s just OG Kush man.”

The single decliner in quality is from inexperienced growers and not dialing in strains imo.
Boutique growers still put out exceptional quality but not 100%. The younger generation isnt the one who made it this way, if anything they’re just getting access to deciding the next. It was the 90-10’ where it really started moving toward hype to hype crossing.

See the Fermented thing i want to explore.Ive heard things especially about African weed thats wrapped in corn husks and cured in the ground like you make Kimchi.Ive heard good things about the guys sweating them in vacume seal bags while the buds are wrapped in corn husk. Some of the older brick i used to get had this thing where it had a sweet fermented smell and the high was much more psychoactive like you could see swirly shit when you closed your eyes in a dark room sometimes hours would go by and it was a blur

I can only speak on the stuff I’ve seen. The ny outdoor is good. Not headstash but good. I did just see some indoor in the one dispensary today. It’s purchased from medical selling off old weed to companies that are short of product. That I wouldn’t buy with their money.

Small farms are the majority currently, this is changing though
