Mr Nice is now implemented in USA, and you can access without rolling the dices strong ratio strains (up to 1:5) from folks strongly involved since decades now in this game. Factually in the game, with big momentum ^^
I have grown pot for 44 years. My state finally legalized last year and at the time I was very happy. Now, 1 year later, I am completely disappointed. Corporations and their political buddies are taking over and will eventually put an end to “home grow”. The government will let you smoke as long as you buy it from them. In the past enforcement of prohibition was funded by tax money and , although it was well funded, there was a limit to that funding. Now big business will have unlimited amounts of money to go after individuals that grow their own pot. This and privately owned prisons that maximize profits by remaining completely full is going to be really bad. The new hybrids are all the same with slick advertising to make you “ think” they are better than the other. Dispo pot is more expensive, less potent, and adulterated with “ God only knows what”. I lived my entire life under the threat of “ the war on drugs” but I have never felt as vulnerable as I do now.
They can suck it.
They too can suck it. Do you have a warrant?
One of the primary reasons I grow my own.
Regarding the gene pool, sure commercially it’s being homogenized but there will always be a niche market for good quality, whatever that mean to you be it stability whatever.
It’s not like good pot is gonna disappear. Just don’t expect to find it at your local dispo.
I have been pondering this dilemma I am facing, and I have decided to take an extended tolerance break.
Smoking (inhaling) anything that does not provide me with satisfaction is pointless, and I will easily quit, probably until after the New Year and I have a comfortable place to break the law, and get high again.
BTW, I have never really been a heavy smoker, I stopped smoking during the daytime back around ‘75 or so and smoke only after my day is winding down. For the past few months I have been smoking 3 or 4 days a week only, and yet, here I am.
I’m sorry but is this guy living on earth or in his own dreams ?
What are you talking about man ?
Weed is better now ? You do realize 10 years ago you never saw a post like this one haha ?
Or you just have long term memory loss ?
10-20 years ago no one was complaining about quality, like other has said there was bad and good, not all this bland shit with no high no effects
All the people that blame cookies you bark on the wrong tree, the OG cookies is fire and elite, daytime elite.
I’m a heavy kush smoker and cookies for me is daytime but certainly not mids or lame
I’m talking about the og elites, something that’s so rare today that’s it’s so tiring hearing people blame them, most of them never smoked the true one and only of those cookies cuts but only the modern hype cuts that some way came from them haha brother those are washed cuts, bred for looks
Good weed cost a lot of money, when you pay pennies you are getting bunk no way around it
Today everything is so cheap, even the best of the best so called, only it’s not best at all hahaha
10-20 yrs ago it was full illegal and the smart people kept their fucking mouths shut, that’s why
And it’s cheaper now because supply is higher than demand. Try to pay attention, bud
There is (IMHO) no debate of the breeding of cannabis flower, has become bloated, and some sectors are boring, to me…but that does mean they are realized the same for EVERYBODY.
I’m a cannabeing. I encapsulate it, I cook with it, I make elixir’s with it, make butters and oils with it.
Hell I use my stalks and fan leaves, to make up a portion of my worm bins, and the rest of the waste goes to compost.
The FOMO sales technique, is what I hate on more than over breeding.
I do not want to speak for anyone, as we can all pick out what slice of cannabis you want.
If a persons brain and receptors are being full filled, go for it!
We are all different.
Hell even some of the old strains, folks uphold as grail products, I did NOT find that way, for me.
Cannabis strain quality is an opinionated expression, by the person partaking of them, and opinions can be very different.
I’m in Ohio as well and have been gardening for a while (~25years). I think those of us who have been growing throughout prohibition have a skewed perspective that doesn’t really translate to newer growers. Most people just want convenience. I don’t think most people even consume enough to justify investing into a hobby that will take months to see any return on, and that they will likely fail at anyways. I also doubt commercial Cannabis here is as worried about home-grow as they are gas station flower or d8 buds that people can order online. That’s the group of people that are actually willing to spend money. Haven’t stepped into a dispensary since we went legal and I never intend on it, but I know the medical scene was in line with what you’re describing. State granted monopolies producing sub par “medicine”.
This is why it’s easy to get cheap second hand gear.
We all see it differently but if you weren’t there to see it you don’t know a fuckin thing. That’s what I tire of. “You guys never had any good pot back then like we have now”.
LOL…and I never fucked yer mom at that boonie either…
But as @webeblzr said…we are all different. It’s like “edibles”. How many ya wanna give me to eat to try to convince me I can get high on 'em? Yet, I know folks who talk like 30mg is an acid trip.
FWIW…I’m glad there’s tasty/frosty pot out there and I’m glad the old strains are being wisely preserved. Anyone who hasn’t looked at lineage to see that every fuckin new strain today came FROM all of those “non-pedigree” plants and weren’t created BY the experts of today needs to take a look.
Dunno about you…but I Thank Bob those stupid fuckers just kept planting the same damn thing for all of those thousands of years so some noob expert today could bag on 'em like they had no hand in any of it…
“Timmy, lunch is ready”
First thing I noticed in smoking the Hawaiian Snow cross from @Ottafish, was How Long the Buzz lasted…
Truly Set it apart from a lot of 2023 / 2024 buds @firehead
Certain states are really putting in the work to force people to shop at dispensaries. In Nevada i believe, there is a law that prohibits home grow within 20 miles of a dispensary. Definitely the shittiest ive heard of.
There is a thing that happens when people look forward to a thing, romanticize it in their mind, roll it around in their mind and play with it. Whatever that “thing” is whether it be a cookie, cake, a vacation, chicken wing or weed is going to be a better experience subjectively.
That said, all the commercial legal buds have been sprayed with something and in my mind that alters the buds taste and effects. Even a little spray can change the taste and smell completely. They all use the same products by law for IPM so the buds are going to have some similar qualities. In my mind this bud is all trash. Clean room bud is the only bud worth smoking to me. You see/smell what the plant is that way. Cannabis is sensitive. A little neem oil over the life of the plant will certainly change all sorts of expressions. Add half a dozen or more sprays and compounds and that expression changes a lot. Foliar feedings? they use a surfactant chem that sticks around can build up and messes with resins & terps. This use of the same products compounds for ipm at these places gives them similar results, within a range.
There are so many awesome plants in all the modern lines, I hate to see people throw them out just because they have been doused in additive chems and sprays until they lose all their character. Grow them yourself you might be surprised.
Weed’s become a mainstream consumer product so it’s only natural it follow the fate of everything else consumed. Cars, fashion, gadgets, food, etc from different commercial entities all look pretty similar, with subtle differences to set their brand apart but not so much that it becomes a niche brand that doesn’t sell.
Granted, I don’t know innovative you can get with weed (autos come to mind), but the investors driving the machine only want profit so the money makers don’t want to stray to far from what works. Add in some silly regulations making it near impossible to stray outside of the box. Leaves us stuck with new cars that are technological marvels, yet huge pieces of complicated shit that come in 5 shades of gray that you throw away. No risks are being taken because scared money don’t make money which leads to stagnation or silly useless shit like the cyber truck.
That’s a great point. It sorta boils down to hoping the mom and pop shops of every aspect of life are able to stand the test. Ultimately it’s on us to decide their fate with our wallets.
It really is the small farms that will have variety and quality in the legal system. The big farms are not experimenting with anything at all. They all are doing proven clones that are within their priority. One place I know only grows 6+ percent washers period.
Legal ipm is limited and tested. I read about so many people here that use spiniod and it’s an automatic fail in the legal system. Sulfur isn’t even on the approved products list in ny!
Tested buds also have a max amount of water allowed, which is why dispensary weed is always dry
Hydroponic weed isn’t even worth smoking. It’s all going to smoke the same, like shit.
You have to grow before you can breed. Most these growers don’t have a clue what their bud actually smells tastes and feels like when grown by a competent grower.
Well, that’s simply not true. Welcome to OG
I can see where @DeadGrowItSociety is coming from.
Once you find your smoke - for me it was living soil which was the game changer. You wouldn’t want to waste your time with anything else. Reach a bar of quality… with a method that works for you and the gear you run - why would you ‘waste your time’ with anything else if it can’t meet the standards you expect.
I would have to side with @DeadGrowItSociety - where I wouldn’t waste my time with hydro - as I have fallen in love with what living soil can bring out in flower.
As far as genetics - and inbred hyped lines - there are plenty of dudes out there, keeping their heads down. Growing cuts from long ago - or working lines with landrace or unknown lines. Find the dudes in their own lanes - they are harder to find - many won’t even be ‘advertising’ their work in anyway - lucky if they are online at all.
The line here is obviously drawn by the commercial industry - an industry that didn’t exist in its current form 20 years ago.
Edit : read it earlier in the thread - someone said it good, the market is now flush with a new grade of consumers. The stoners of decades ago are a very small portion of that new market. The commercial market works on demand. Today’s cannabis consumer is not the same dude who waited hours around the side of a convenience store to hopefully score his next bag of unknown bud.
I’m really enjoying everyone’s thoughts on the subject.
I’ve always been intrigued by seed banks focusing on landrace, heirloom, preservations. Today, there’s hardly a bud tender in all of Colorado who knows what Skunk #1 is, it’s like these kids believe dispensary weed is how it’s always been. Here’s one: Skunk #1 Collection – Todd McCormick
It’s also intriguing, 10 years ago, nothing under 20% would sell in dispensaries. Suddenly, that’s pushing 30%. But here’s a Question no one’s asking: How is advertising hash levels of THC in flower serving the industry or ANYBODY? Personally , I just don’t like that stuff. It’s certainly not healthy, not that any pot is, or course, it’s a vice, like beer. But isn’t promoting insane levels of THC playing right into the hands of our industry critics?
Just musing. But I think there’s a real market for seventies era strains, with “normal” THC levels. Heck, it’s all going to be better, just because it’s not full of dirt, stems, and seeds, .
I’d rephrase that. More accurately, “poorly grown hydroponic weed isn’t worth smoking”. Now that’s VERY true.
I grew hydro for fun, speed, and yield. I grow in soil because it just tastes better. Now don’t start on me, it just does, lol. Been around the world on that argument, too. Hydro weed tastes like McDonald’s, soil grown tastes like Whole Foods.
