60 years of anything from a cute college car to a fire breathing race beast, Mustang is such a cool
platform.
I have run that track several times , he could of used more Hp on that track .
With suspension brakes and weight loss they make a great track car ,
Mine has got the suspension brakes and tranny , but not stripped her and not going to .
I would love to run THAT track with my car
Pro’s pretty damn good aint they , lol .
Years ago I took some hot laps with a pro named Randy Probst .What a ride , when I said wick it up man , he looked over and said
I’m giving all she’s got Captain …….lol
Amazing car control and was like he was just sitting at Sunday church , no drama at all could have ridden with him all day .
So to answer his question , maybe 100 miles .
HARD to maintain that speed over distance .
…worth noting I started driving where there was none of that but plenty of twisty dangerous curves with great scenery. So when I ribbed you for more rubber it’s because I cut my teeth in a different way & place & get off on different & weird cars. I had VWitis & then Porsche-itis & got clean on a Honda that I loved, fucker got me 51mpg drafting semis & I made it home on 2$. Ate some gravel from a couple truckers.
You’d hate driving in Hawaii-- bring radar detector & jammer & extra anti-anxiety meds because these people are slower than snake shit & timid AF. And I’m an asshole.
Aloha
248kmh/154mph in 6th and was still climbing but I wasn’t feeling comfortable with the hood fluttering as it was and let off. I didn’t even want to imagine what would have happened if the latch let go at those speeds. It’s about the smiles per gallon, not miles per gallon.
The hood would shear off at the hinges & become a dangerous projectile to those behind you. At a lower speed it might not break off but it still isn’t fun.
Once saw a blue tarp fly off a landscaper truck & completely cover the Corolla behind it. Was on the freeway & they were lucky to be in the far right lane.
My buddy had a piece of rebar or form stake fly at him off the back of a truck & it speared through the body, radiator, & an inch deep into the engine block of a 2ndgen Supra. Would have impaled him if it bounced a foot higher before hitting.
I went about 2 miles with a top speed of 145 there and back again. I was too afraid to try more. I was only 17 and my sister would let me drive her quite a bit (bad idea).
It was a '70 Dodge Challenger RT 440 SixPack (factory high rise manifold and 3 - 2 barrel carburetors. Pretty much like this one in the photo but it had a black convertible top. Power windows, and 3 speed slap stick automatic tranny.
Unfortunately my sis’s boyfriend ended up wrecking it and that was it. I found out later they only made 500 of the one she had.
What a car, though. 6 miles to the gallon on gas, too. Good think it was only $0.25 a gal then.
Hmm, I don’t fuck around with other vehicles around me. I’m not ignorant. I might take my life into my own hands, but not the life of others on the road.
Anyhow, the reason for the fluttering was the splash guard under my engine was not installed so there was a large increase in air being force up through the engine bay.
Fun fact. I drove about 3500km with a 6.2l and drove home with a 7.0l
I was “commuting” in 3 hours twice a week, during barely twos years. It was around 100 miles top i think in taking the most dynamic section in count. 4 wheels, serious rallye background, no highway. Majority of the time i’m driving alone, i don’t know why
I wasn’t driving…riding in a friends Lamborghini on the Audubon freeway in Germany at 140mph…
Scared the living f-k outta me!
(yep–I screwed up 1st time!! LOL!)
…was that like a duck thing?
LMAO!
Thanks for catching that!
Quack quack!!!
i had it when driving a truck in the early '90s when the speed limit was still 55 in half the country. had 15 tickets in a year and still had my license.
i rode a ducati on the autobahn once to 172mph. it went further but i got a little scared. the guy told me when i got back he told me about a half inch of tire was touching the road at that point. up until then i was too stupid to be scared. i was 20 then, no way i would do that now. at least i had a suit on…like it would have done any good whatsoever.
of course that was about a minute and not an hour, so i’d have to say in the spirit of the thread 145 miles in an hour. drove 500 miles in 4 hours, in a bmw on the autobahn, in the rain. here’s a fun fact: at 138mph the windshield wipers in a 1980 bmw 528i stop working and just get stuck to one side or the other. if you have a sunroof you can remedy that manually but it will get you a tad wet. yeah, i was stupid back then…
I know that at around 115 mph a limiter kicks in on a 1996 pontiac sunfire and the engine will rev but no more power will be put down. I will tell you the same thing I told my parents when I relayed this fact to them. I know because I read it on the internet.
