Who's running northern lights?

And further more you don’t know what fgen you’re getting from the breeder cuz believe me you, Sam or I aren’t getting to close to their parent stock.

If they had any brains
That’s the difference between pros and amateurs.
Hate to say the word “amatuers”

Eh, I think it depends on the parent stock. Some of these f1’s of “elite clones” come out as hot garbage, they’re all over the place. Need good selection and line work to pull something truly spectacular out of the line. Won’t even be close to the F1 but would likely be way better than whatever idea the breeder had with it. I find this happens alot when the breeder is just taking their “stud” to every girl on earth.

Maybe thats an amateur breeder tho, idk…

I am definitely an amateur.

My whole current grow is on seeds that came from co-op boxes.

I guess it depends on your standards of perfection. Some are keepers and some aren’t.

i would bet there is not a NL seed being sold out there thats not a f5 f6 or some shit

well it does date to the mid 80’s, 5 or 6 generations sounds about right. as I understand it, the numbered nl’s were all outcrosses of the original PNW northern lights.

the best bet for vigor and unlocking old expressions of the numbered lines might be to make fresh hybrids with the PNW nl.

If it can be found. I had it outdoor 2019 still trying to get it back from the same source.

You have that with the pros also

There was a time I wouldn’t even look at an f2, there for a while ya didn’t have a whole lot of choice depending on what ya wanted.

I’ve fixed that thou.
Landrace stock, fuck these shit hybrids and super shit hybrids.

But if a person would have limited space,
One keeper out of 10 don’t make it with me.
People need to start upping their standards and demanding better. Quit buying their shit.
Especially at these prices.
What I dont get people spend the same amount of money for hybrids when a guaranteed landrace is a far better deal for not that much more.

Whats that one of shorts f13, it’s not named after a fighter jet.
His other gear f8 or better.

It’s true not everyone has room for a pheno hunt. Even my space is very limited. I can make some selections in veg and early flower but at a certain point I’m committed.

This run of 4 is not finished yet but from what I see now I’d run 3 of them again. Save clones, etc. And from there i can establish mothers and then really go all out.

It just takes some time.

Not ideal but it gives me some wiggle room. I’d love to have infinite space but it ain’t happening.

I run 5-2 x 4 units they fit swell in a closet, it’s all I do is pheno hunt you can finish 8 -10 depending per unit on a month and a half veg.
Alot nobody sees.

What do you do with the stuff that doesn’t make the grade? Huge hash runs?

Honestly some aren’t even hash grade.

How’d that old Billy Preston tune go,
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing its gotta have something if it’s gonna be with me".

Maybe salv, I throw my share away.
Cost of growing and listening to hype, that’s why I blaze my own trail, no one to be mad at but yourself.

I’ve grown some that I consider sub par that won’t win any contests but if you throw a bag on the table at a party it’s a hit.

I consider this butter grade. Edibles hide a lot of sins.

I’ve also got hash grade and smoking grade. Which pile a particular plant ends up in depends on my mood and how much hash I already have.

My tolerance is up there, people don’t want to listen it’s on them.

If it dont do something for me it ends there.

I have a couple of "almost heirloom"strains that I keep in my cupboards but to the question…
Who has the best northern lights? That’s one I don’t have.

No idea who has the best source as seeds. @anon5325009 cna prob point you to some really good stock.
I got these as clones and it’s my first time blooming them. NL5 and another that was just labeled Northern Lights. The one labeled MPK is “Monkey Picked Kush”, my bag seed keeper

Fairly certain the original Northern Lights has been gone for a long time now. Any modern seeds labelled Northern Lights are purely cheap imitations and misleading knockoffs as the original parent strains/plants are long gone. Don’t expect much.

@Terpdankistan, thankfully this is inaccurate. A good friend has been growing the same Northern Lights clone since 1984. He got it along with an Afghani from friends in the Chico/Paradise area.

Yes, he still has the Northern Lights but he lost the Afghani. No, I won’t ask him for it. We tried once already and packages going both ways ended up mid-summer mush.

I will get it someday and people will know when I do.

What’s up @SCJedi. Hope you have been well and the fishing has been good this year. How does your friend feel about the quality of the bud today versus the bud of ‘84?

He’s extremely introverted and only smokes the NL and a strawberry kush he picked up many years later. Seriously, that’s it.
