Yup, always what I’ve heard too. Nothing beast plain cheap generic ceiling white paint. Panda is second best, followed by mylar.
For stealth reasons I couldn’t use a tent. I went lumber + panda film and couldn’t be happier.
In the end it cost me almost nothing but some work, and got a 2x4 for 50 bucks. Money saved I’ve been able to spare for more important stuffs like lights and exhaust for example.
If you’re on a budget and don’t mind going DIY, I believe that’s one of the first place where it’s easy to save money. Just requires to have a bit of the time for it. But you can make it fit any place with a bit of ingenuity.
The difference between the two readings is tent mylar and growtite heavy duty mylar.
With and without mylar, that’s a 30% increase immediately inside fading to 6/7% in the middle.
You can easily see it’s better lit lower and further back, according to my meter mylar is a diffrent league to panda for reflectivity even when it’s old and dirty.
it’s basically a mirror on a roll.
Fwiw bud box tents are still available the bud box Pro has a white linning inside.
I remember the older pvc lined tents that were off gassing from the tent heating up from hps/mh lights. People using the tents had plants that would just die.
Panda film for my grow room remodel came in. Not sure what’d be the best tape for closing the corners. You guys got any suggestions?
Was just thinking? Isnt panda alot more flammable than a tent? Could be a reason
First time hearing the term panda film. Cervantes said back in that old VHS, “mylar creates hotspots that may burn your plants, visqueen plastic is so much safe”, só I always called it visqueen. Think we’re talking about the same plastic. It’s sold here as duplalon.
Also known as black and white
Love the garden helper
I like to fold a hem into seams, then just use duct tape to hold the hem. You can also use a few extra inches of material to overlap, then tape that as well. I prefer a few folds, though. Tends have less odds of separating, IME.
Never used panda in my years of growing… either tent with mylar or flat white paint in room/closet. Would like to compare though on a side by side run
Yeah the home box XL and hydro hut , because of the phthalates in the white vinyl, they were offgassing and killing everything.
PVC has no place in the grow room unless its NSF certified (which dictates its phthalate free)
Im in thr middle of a complete tear down and rebuild because i used self-stick vinyl tiles as my flooring.
Also there was the ngw half inch tubing offgassing issue that cost literally hundreds of gardeners Thier grows for about 10 months straight.
The light leaks in these tents aren’t from the reflective mylar or anything Like that.
Its due to how Thier seams are terminated.
The most less light leaking tents have a fold over hem that goes deep past the stitching for said seams.
But there’s still white lined tents out there from grow tent depot. But i in a million year’s wouldn’t trust them
@mars
Visqueen is clear thick mill see thru drop cloth.
Black and white Panda is not visqueen
My Gorilla tent lights up like a lantern. It’s not the seams. The whole side glows. If you get close you can see through the fabric and mylar. Yes, the seams are even worse. But mylar is absolutely not light tight. If you hold a sheet up under your grow light you’ll be able to see right through it. Neither is their canvas. Combined they do an ok job, and ambient room light probably won’t be enough to penetrate, but grow lights are easily bright enough, and the light leaks out. That’s enough to make me concerned. A bright light in the room outside the tent COULD definitely penetrate the layers, the same way grow lights do from inside. It would easily be solved with PROPER light proof material.
I’m working on making a tent cover out of panda film, actually. I’m gonna make a curtain to cover the front where the zippers leak like crazy, and wrap the other 3 sides and top, then tape it all up. No more pinholes for me
@GreenHighland
He controls water’s quality and leaves density (eating tips sometimes)
Part of the fun is to build things
Just planning how to rebuild my grow places
@Couchlocked
Interesting, following this concept I am using panda film in my setup. Now I can extract the right return prompting like this Thanks for clarify it
When I first started I had a self built framed 4x4 with panda film. After having to laat minute break down and rebuild to a upstairs bedroom when my city utility company needed to install a new water meter in my basement i converted to tents. I like the convince of being able to break a tent down or set one up in 10 minutes. Also easy to store when not growing. Also just because ypu can see a pinhole light from tjw outside doesn’t mean it’s actually leaking to the inside. A growlight in a tent is going to be much stronger than amibeint light in a room unless you have the tent infront of some big bay window that recieves dorect sunlight. My tents are in a basement so I don’t worry about light leaks through stich holes.
Grabbed a wide roll of gorilla tape this morning. This grow area will be about’ish 8x8x8 but I still haven’t worked out the front cover yet, wondering if this panda film is sturdy enough for metal grommets to hang like a shower curtain.
Easiest way to utilize panda as an enclosure us to build wall frames using 2x2’s. Use the 2x2s as studs, king studs, outside frame etc.
Staple the panda film to the sections of framed wall frames.
Build them Laying flat, build All 4 walls modular.
So your left with pre built panda walls.
After stapling one side to the wall frames, you can place some Styrofoam sheets in before you staple the second side of panda to the wall.
Set walls up, use L bracket’s or inside corner brace’s to attach walls to each other
I think it definitely would be if you fold it one or two times. That’s a really good idea!! I’m going to remember that
I mean it was your idea in your last post when you mentioned curtain lol
