It seems so logical to me!! I’ve seen so many people use panda film alone as a light proof curtain. It works!! These tent guys all use mylar and they ALL have light leaks. ALL OF THEM!!! So why not just use panda film to line tents instead?? I’d gladly pay the extra in manufacturing for a tent that actually works like it should, and I’m sure everyone else would agree.
For the record, my Gorilla Lite 4x4 lights up like a damn lantern in a completely dark room. So much for those guys being the best
AND STOP PUTTING WINDOWS IN!!! LITERALLY NOBODY WANTS WINDOWS!!
Ive built tents out of panda plastic/zipwalls and simple pvc for a frame. They work great, but dont have the lifespan of the fancier tents. Ive even used 12 mil poly plastic for endwalls in dep greenies. But they usually have to be swapped out every couple years.
Same. I prefer 2x3 lumber frames, but this is what got me thinking…if the panda film was actually a liner in 1600D canvas, not only would it be the sturdiest tent available on the market, but it would actually be the only true light proof tent.
Then there’s all the reflectivity benefits over mylar…we could go on for days!
Anyone remember the old school Homebox tents?? They were white inside. Was that panda film? They’re really hard to find now!
For me, I love my Panda grow area.
It’s ugly as hell!
But it works a treat, and it cost me a roll of 50’ x 10’ for $50.00 !
I must say, all the tents and I bought used and wore out, were a blessing, even with their pin holes.
I never had an issue with that aspect of them.
As I got older, since I started my indoor journey in 2000, growing in wooden boxes, I got the screaming shits of crawling in and out them every day, sometime a few times a day.
All the reaching to water the plants, in the 4’ x8’x 7’ tent, or keeping your balance when maintaining them in fully loaded tent!
Tents were a brilliant idea, many of us watched that industry unfold right here in OG, way back in the early 2000’s.
The idea came from the use of Jardin Tents, for in field photo development.
Now, I walk into the Veg area, or roll in my water tank, or in the 2 flower areas.
I did keep my Gorilla 4 x 4, but when it’s gone, no more for me, just Pandamonium from here on out!
Ive had a veg tent in corner of my flower room because of space constraints for 5 years now. Never had an issue and its a cheapy from vivosun to boot but it stays at even pressure. Only times ive ever had a light leak using a tent was when my cat dug in and climbed the tent and i didn’t notice until i was in the room lights out and also from to much negative pressure inside the tent. I also dont flower in a tent anymore ever so i dont have that negative pressure suction trying to rip the seams apart that makes for light leaks. If i did flower in a tent i would probably line it with panda like you mentioned just to be safe. I used to blow carbon filtered air in at the same speed as it was being exhausted to keep the pressure from trying to rip the tent apart and that helped with light leaks when i flowered in tents by not having so much pull on the seams. Also, yes screw those useless windows.
You are not wrong the windows are for the growers that must check the plants every 5 minutes as if something changed lol I won’t lie I was like that at first I just liked looking at them lol. Now I am like a weekend parent, see you next Saturday
I used some Tool Dip stuff to dab on my holes in my tents long ago. I’d clean with a swab of alcohol, then a blob of TD.
I Bic light removes zipper hair, the strings left behind on my cheapo tents, quick and easy.
mylar reflects more light, i think at least 15-20% more… somethin like that…
i hate the windows, just a light leaker… but i was watching a youtube video where the dude would only check on its plants thru it lol, so i guess some ppl use them.
i have white walls on my veg, but i guess on my small flowering tent i appreciate the efficiency of mylar…
Yeah, pin holes suck… that’s actually a great idea for the seams. But if I put my face up to the Gorilla tent in a dark room, it glows!! I can actually very faintly make out a silhouette inside of the lights and plants. Right through the material. Kind of like how you can see right through a bedsheet if you get really close to it. But not as transparent.
I use foil HVAC tape for the windows. I tape the whole inside over so I can still use the covers and have it look nice from outside. The windows are completely useless. Considering what I just said above, this is probably the most light proof area of the tent, as a matter of fact.
PRO TIP
Foil HVAC tape is easily one of the best “OH SHIT” light proofing tools you can have in your arsenal. Go buy 2 rolls right now!!
He has some older comparison videos too. I’m getting ready to redo my little grow room and it didn’t take long to decide the white panda film is friendlier on my eyes, 5% or not.
@the_bot flat white is only a couple points less reflective than Mylar and much cheaper and easier to maintain. It doesn’t have the cool reflective effect though
we always used flat white rather than anything reflective on boxes back in the day. not sure if it made much of a difference but it was so much easier, cheaper, and lasted way longer than any mylar/aluminum foil. of course that was before tents though.
i recall when tents started to become a thing. not for those of us in illegal places but they are pretty cool and easier to put up than a box. hard to make them stealthy though. i set up one grow for a friend inside an old refrigerator. light in the freezer and the grow in the fridge.
