Time of my life there. To this day, I STILL dont know how I never got sick. I drank soooo much… and fixed a few planes!
I remember sitting in with this Thai cover band at one of the bars. I just walked in with my buddy, listened for a bit, told them I play guitar and the guy just hands over his axe! Awesome!
I think we played Sweet Child O mine, if I recall.
Did you ever go to the Wild Chicken? Cool bar we used to hang out at during the day just to relax. They made pretty good chilli and garlic bread. I think it was ran by an Aussie or ex-patriot, I believe.

I was in the Army, 4BN 22nd Inf 25th ID. 11C
We were the 1st Army troops to see Korat since the Vietnam War, and Cobra Gold started in ‘82. I was part of the “Early” crew, had 14 days in Bangkok, then shipped us to the air base in Korat, where we rehabed the old barracks to live in. I rebuilt the same barracks that 2 of my uncles stayed in during the Vietnam war, they were both stationed at the Korat air base.
When we were in Bangkok, we stayed at the Raja Hotel, a block away, tucked into an alley, was about 30 go go bars on 2 floors, never really left and wandered, had everything I needed, LOL
Don’t remember the Wild Chicken, but you went quite a few years after I went.
I’ve only been remarried for 4 years, so, I’m still asking myself why I never went back in 30 years, LOL

Too many stories from Cobra Gold.
I remember some Army guys coming thru the airbase and they came to our huge-ass tent to hang out and wait for a ride. They commented how nice it was with the A/C unit,cots and water bottles, etc…and they had to sleep in bags with personal tents, etc. I started laughing and told him we only work here for our shift then get on private bus to our 4-Star hotel and sleep in my queen sized bed and eat off per diem! Thats the Air Force life, baby! Still remember the exchange rate $20 = 500 baht.
Loved eating Thai street food. I could stuff myself silly for $5
I also remember the weekend the Navy boats came to port.
It was like a Twilight Zone episode… Where are the girls??? lol

You had to have been a member by January 10 of this year per Doug. Looks like he joined 3 days ago so he’d have to wait until next year based on that. Hope this helps explain.
