This was my exact thought too when I read that Duke might be helping go through seed stock. Just like with him helping restart BG. I’ll buy Duke’s gear and run his shit without hesitation, but if he’s really coming in to help go through seed stock, that suggests that Jr didn’t learn much from his dad. The old stock that was actually made by BOG is legit aside from possible germ rates, but any work/breeding Jr is doing himself/with others, I think he should do under another name like BOG Jr or something. Would be a different story if he still had the parent plants. But anything new/fresh coming out from him won’t be the same original lines anymore. It’s Jr’s work now, not BOG’s. IMO it would be better to make it his own and not try and rerelease things that will never be the same without the original parents. Maybe cross his dad’s strains to hype cuts lol.

Heck yeah being the guy people call as a problem solver is definitely a vote for the quality of his work, I’ve got some Local Skunk F2s someone sent me in the Secret Santa this year that I can’t wait to pop some of this summer in a friend’s yard. I’ve seen enough good reviews of Dominion stuff that while I wouldn’t place it on a top tier level with say Lucky Dog or Dynasty, it’s definitely genetics of quality.

I have a dummy level understanding of breeding, but this was 100% my gut reaction as well.

I just listened to the show and he did say it would be a different brand if they released new stuff. Just hope the BOG repros are as well

Didn’t BOG say on the Potcast that every few years he would replace his mothers/fathers by doing a seed search?

I got several emails from bog saying things are out of stock over the years, not that it matters. Sour Bubble sold out instantly everywhere it dropped every time. How was it never always in stock? See, I’m not gonna get sucked into picking apart 25 years of stoner history bit by bit. None of my business to do that. I’m an INTJ so I have to remind myself of that often.

James Bean and I have almost no mutual followers, we’re not even in the same universe and never will be so it’s none of my business what he does with anyone.

Like I mentioned in my ig video apology to bog, none of my business about the bog family and James bean finances. The seeds however… I’ve been growing sour bubble for a third of my life, it was an easy catch. :man_shrugging: Idk how someone who never grew sour bubble is supposed to “make it right” He mentioned having backcross 2 seeds left to make Bx3 but said earlier he doesn’t have the moms… no matter really.

In spite of how it happened, im glad the truth came out. Saying they will label things appropriately from now on as new and not playing them off as original was good.

After that interview I changed my mind and will absolutely be releasing my 05 Sour Bubble work on Valentine’s Day.

Do it dude, let the lines tell the story :sunglasses:
I saw the same things you did, it was very obvious to me as a long time Sour Bubble grower….

Glad to hear this. I hate that all of Bogs moms are gone. You most likely will have the more authentic representation than Jr. himself. I have some f2 SB that were done by an OG member a few years ago. The plants I’ve grown were all similar. SB is good smoke and a beautiful plant that shows Bogs hard work.

He did lose his bog bubble, lifesaver and I surmise his sour bubble mother around 2010. (He would show off his precious sb mom quite often, but nothing after 2010…)

And he didn’t keep males around…

He came out with “new original, nothing changed but its different” using new parents then.

I’ve medicinal aspects is all I’m worried about. When the old pack said best medicinal strain he wasn’t lying. That’s why I grew her most of my adult life. The beneficial muscle spasm relief and anti inflammatory affects are real.

I shouldn’t have let my disappointment in the shn seed conflate with my love for bog, that was a mistake on my part. That’s Jrs. job to carry on that legacy not mine, so I overstepped there in an emotional response by commenting on their finances.

I got threats of disappearing me but at least we all know what’s happening now. If I do disappear you know what’s up ngl
I would have handled it better if I didn’t let my emotions get the best of me because of how intertwined my life is with sour bubble.

Any benefits for acute pain/nausea as well? I’m growing for cancer patients. Sounds promising I’ll definitely try to pick some up when you release your work :+1:

There is a lot to take into consideration here .
Worked lines that have been bred for years from seed would not be that hard keep going but a lot of breeders keep mother and father plants because the original pairing produces different results then the offspring would if bred together. You can quickly steer a line in a different and often wrong direction threw selection.
If the beans are old that should be stated but then then again you can’t exactly blame junior for not understanding everything about the seed game when it was his dads deal. In regards to James having old stock , guess what almost all seed banks sit on what they have till it sells and I’ve seen very few who tell you when the seed was actually produced. This is why it’s best to get things when they drop you have the best chance of the beans being fresh.
Nobody has big mothers anymore so what ever you get and who ever you get it from it will either be old stock or reproductions from original stock.
I’m not big on bog history so I don’t know how many of his lines were bred from the same parents each time vs how many were worked lines kept in seed form.
One thing you can’t do is tell somebody else how to deal with the death of a loved one and the upcoming death of another. We all cope in are own ways but I highly doubt seeds are high on his priority list of feelings right now.
@Tonygreen its unfortunate when things go this route
I’ve been on the the receiving end of some rather lengthy and uncomfortable threatening conversations in regards to genetics and you can’t help but think if there was no money to be made and no egos to be harmed maybe we wouldn’t be so mean to each other but unfortunately it seems to be human nature to compete rather then unite.

I don’t think he wanted to be on the show at all, or at least not under the circumstances at the moment. He was ushered on the show to “prove” himself so the sales and integrity of his dad’s work wouldn’t suffer and become tarnished by a few shouting the seeds weren’t authentic. Taking digs at a guy who just lost his dad, and with his mother ailing in a nursing home.

It’s embarrassing really, to think it has to come to that. To this. I find the demands and slandering from the community incredibly uncouth. His dad passed around the holidays just two years ago, and now here he is feeling obligated to prove his dad’s legacy is authentic. The days between Christmas and New years no less. Surely some of the most sentimental parts of the year for most who have lost a loved one. It makes me want to scream! It’s heartbreaking.

Everyone seemingly wanting something from the BOGS, but not even giving what cost no money at all, respect. Even one of the hosts couldn’t resist asking for a signed book when Jr. mentioned having just a couple pieces of merchandise and a couple books left. I would LOVE a Bonanza of Green book, and have been scouring the internet to find a physical copy at a reasonable price. Even I was shocked when the host kept on about it without the request even being acknowledged, going so far as saying where he can send the book to. During a moment of reflection, thinking about his dad and saying how he only had a couple books left and a few pieces of merchandise. I treasure the few things of my dads that I still have and would be more than offended if someone saw my moments of heartfelt reflection as a time to pillage goods for themselves.

BOG is a legend in the community and especially here at Overgrow. Have we already forgotten his integrity and contributions to the community? Looking at his recent posts before he passed he was still giving seeds away, this time a fundraiser for Overgrow raising what seemed like more than $600. And now he is gone and we no longer value his word? He made it clear that he wanted to leave his family his work to provide for them because it had provided for them so well. He didn’t have to drive trucks across the country and be away from his family anymore. BOG isn’t legendary only because of his weed or his seeds. He is legendary for his kindness and loving heart.

I think the narrative is being skewed because I never thought the seeds are SHN were represented as being made by anyone other than BOG himself at some point in time before he passed. That they were selling already made stock. BOG didn’t keep the same parental plants for his lines and often made new selections to continue with them going forward. This is all here on the forums and at Icmag and in his book. He loved interacting on the forums and sharing his passion with like minds. At some points in the past it seemed like the BOGS used the same parents for a short while here or there for their work, but it’s not like he had been selling his varieties from chosen 1:1 matings and used the same parental plants all this time. As an example, there’s a reason the BX2/3 era is so reveared and it’s harder to find the bazooka Joe chewing gum in the BogBubble than when it first came out.

The uproar of lost mother’s doesn’t hold much weight to me considering they didn’t really keep their lines that way. This isn’t news, it’s how BOG worked his lines. Jr. has been around those lines and those selections more than anybody on the planet besides BOG and Pat so I’m more than totally cool with him continuing the legacy built by his dad. Especially considering that’s what BOG himself wanted. Jr said he worked 3 years getting Grape punch where he wanted it. During his short but sweet time on the Icmag back around 2004 Jr. posted some pictures of working with Lifesaver and other BOG varieties. Just because he isn’t here posting everyday doesn’t mean he is some newbie or doesn’t know the lines and what to select for. He doesn’t say he has all sorts of plant biology credentials but when he speaks of the plant and selecting and working from other generations it’s clear that he understands where the lines are and isn’t going into things with naivety. Criticizing someone’s work before they have done it says more about who is criticizing than who’s work is supposedly subpar. If he doesn’t want to be online or social media good for him and it should be respected.

From a seedcollectors perspective I strive to order and source direct whenever possible and I don’t think there is anyone more qualified to select BOG lines than Jr. He likely has access to more stock and generations for these lines than anyone on the planet, and by good measure too. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinions though, especially as it relates to how they spend their hard earned money.

What’s old stock? It’s likely the same stock that BOG was selling from before he passed and if anyone has germination issues or anything else cross that bridge when you get there but casting assumptions is incredibly disrespectful to BOG because things are going for the most part as he intended after he passed. These are likely the same exact jars he was pulling seeds from when he was still alive selling direct and fulfilling orders for his select distributors. I don’t remember these same accusations of “imposter” Sour Bubble when BOG himself was mailing very likely seeds from the same jars they are coming out of now. He went above and beyond with customer satisfaction and if ever there was an issue you know he would remedy it, and I feel same goes for SHN and Jr. Has anyone had poor germination rates from these recent packs and been told too bad or otherwise not taken care of? Plants they weren’t happy with that they were told to kick rocks too bad? I haven’t seen any claims like that. Just badmouthing and name-calling and insinuating a superior understanding of plant genetics as a reason to not expound on their perspective further. That speaks volumes to me.

It was BOGS choice to use SHN as his main distributor and he made that clear and it proved to be a good choice. I’m not sure, but I would think that the BOG fundraiser was likely the biggest fundraiser ever done in such a fashion within the community. A community rife with scammers, cash grabbers, and otherwise out to get theirs uncompassionate individuals. We should be celebrating SHN for that! On the podcast James even makes sure to say that it was the community that did it and deflects taking full credit. Now the community is changing the narrative. I don’t get it. He was posting here lovingly the days before he passed.

I was excited to listen to the portion of the podcast with Jr. last night, but noticed myself anxious during the beginning. It felt wrong because the timing didn’t seem authentic. It felt forced and I felt ashamed for being part of a community who let it get to that point. Before he came on I thought to myself, what good will it even do because people are going to believe what they want to believe. Sure enough, we have the “it could be anybody” comments already. I like to think we are all entitled to our own opinions so I won’t say that someone else is wrong for having a certain opinion, but to me that was the voice of a kind hearted man of which would also describe BOG himself quite accurately. And like they say, they apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I enjoyed feeling the resemblance instantly, thinking wow BOG raised such a kind human. Soft spoken, kind, considerate, grateful. Not using the platform to take shots or extend the controversy. James Bean too, it’s commendable.

I don’t like my comments to be focused on things like this but it seems like camps are forming and it doesn’t feel right. I’ll be more direct.

@Tonygreen you’re talking like you have the mom’s or access to something the BOGS don’t. It seems like you’re intentionally trying to push their brand of Sour Bubble down and yours up, why bro? BOG was nothing but supportive of you and kind to you as he was to everyone. He would even be supportive of your Valentine’s day release, but I don’t think he would be supportive of taking digs at his son like that or his chosen main distributor especially considering that distributor raised an bunch of much needed and timely cash for his wife and family after his passing and we all know how much BOG loved his family. He encouraged others to make their own seeds as he did and found joy in it. My heart breaks to see this divide happening. It’s not how it should be. He would not be treating any of you like this. He was all about love and spreading the stoke. Being kind. Now it seems like a bunch of cheap shots at his brand and legacy.

These sorts of implications go beyond the potential disruption in revenue streams, it goes beyond the cash value. These seeds and his wishes to care for his family after he was gone were important to him. Words are powerful. We should not be so careless with them.

He also said that he encouraged others to make seeds for when he came back with the aliens or something like that. BOG your loving energy is still alive in the hearts and minds of many  Much love

It’s real simple math to see the difference in phenos currently in sour bubble seed lots post Bogs death versus just 2 years ago. Men lie, math doesn’t. You can never have a Bx without a mom can you?

Why am I not releasing every bog seed line if I’m doing it for “sales”??? #icmagfam has all the originals. I’ve been offered them all by multiple people.

What a great sign off too, so go buy beans :rofl::rofl:
