Adventures in seed poppin and pollen tossin

So the LUI x G13 seeds have joined the party.
All 5 sprouted tails so into the starter pots they went.
Hopefully they all make it above the ground!!!
stoked to see what’s in these and I will absolutely be looking to make a seed increase even though it’s just 5 seeds.

@crownpoodle , thanx for the kind words
I don’t do anything special in veg but I’ll share my method
My well water has a lot of mineralization. Haven’t had it tested to see exactly what’s in it but plants seem to like it. it generally comes out of the tap around 6.5 so I just give it directly to the plants without altering the PH.
I sew my seeds into straight sunshine mix 4 , wetted with the well water only. Then they only get that water up until transplant time.
At transplant I mix my soil in an 18gallon tote and I add to that a solo cup full of AG gypsum and about 2/3 that of Dolopril and I add those to the dry mix. Then I wet out that soil with full strength feed at 8ml GH Flora Micro and 16ml GH Flora Bloom per gallon of water. I PH that to 6.8 and then mix into the soil well.
Now, I try and keep my waterings/feedings to 1/6th the actual liquid volume of the pot. This was what I was taught over 3 decades ago and I still practice it to this day.
** disclaimer ==> the 1/6th volume is based on using Sunshine Mix 4 with no other ammendments , other than the gypsum and dolimite. Adding extra perlite or worm castings just to give examples, will change the water holding ability of the mix. I need to mention that as other growers have tried my methods but failed to get the same results. They also added other things or were not using sunshine mix 4 so thier results differed.

  • How to find the volume of the pot some ask? ==> place a clean garbage bag into the pot in question and be careful not to make any holes as you then need to fill it with water, measuring as you go. A short distance down from the lip of your pot should be a line or a ridge that we will call the dirt line. That is where the pot is typically filled to when we put our soil in. So we fill the bag in the pot with measured amounts of water up to the dirt line.
Take your measured total and divide by 6 and that gives you your watering amount for each watering.
So back to the method… I give the starts water only up to transplant into #1 pots. The #1’s are filled with sunshine 4 , ammended with the Gypsum and Dolopril and wetted out with full strength nutes.
Then I still just give them water , usually 2 to 3 feedings and then I start actually feeding them with 1/6th volume applications. I practice a feed/water/water/feed schedule, repeating that until flower starts.
I try and keep the room between 76 and 78F and I am constantly fighting to keep humidity above 15% this time of year and it generally is set to stay 35 to 45% in the room using an inkbird and a small room humidifier.

So thats about it. The plants seem to like it for the most part

Appreciate the info. @SHSC-1 I saw your 6 to 1 ratio before. What I come real close to using, but bigger pots. Started measuring soil, not using pot size. Peat and Prelite, lime, and EWC. That’s it. Same nute ratio. Different ph. 6.2- 6.4. I run higher temps and rh. I fight to keep my rh down below 50. I’ll have to look a close at that.

well things are rolling right along over here.
The new seed starts are doing well and the Lui x G13 are all up though one is kinda struggling and may die off… we’ll see.

Kastu’s Schromba is looking nice

Same for Rude Dog

The lone Horny Horse Cherry Red Shitfest from @Pigeonman is a GIRL!! I think I will transplant her and get her ready for cloning. I really like this plant and I think I am going to keep her for the greenhouse run… we’ll see.

The runts are catching up and finally showing some vigor as those roots build.
The Verdant Green Pre98 Bubba S1 topped itself when it sprouted somehow and is slowly chugging along… slow as a snail… that’s the Bubba for ya LOL

The Reeferman G13 is showing some nice growth as well and is looking really good now. I really hope this is a girl… fingers crossed. Either way this plant will be saved and combined with the Lui x G13 when the time comes

more in next post…

ya man… I was seeing the grows on the labs and I just had to get it into the rotation. This one and the Schromba will be vegged up for the greenhouse this summer
I’m actually planning the greenouse right now and have pulled some mom’s from the torture chamber veg room. I usually just use that room for stress testing but have had some of my moms out there and a few at different friends places. I’ll be slowly bringing them into the main veg room as June approaches.
These two must keep plants have been out there slow growing in the 1000w halide shed with temps averaging 68F to keep them in slow mode. They have been in the veg room under the HLG 600B-spec for a few days now and are responding well. Haggard looking but lots of greened up new growth. I’ll get these healthy and take a bunch of clones in a few weeks but these two will be vegged up for the greenhouse for sure.
Grape Pie (left) and OGKB 2.0

Then there are the 10 2017 Shiska seedlings growing like crazy. I think they are around the end of week 4 of veg. There are only 9 pots but one was a twin and they are still growing together in thier pot. (2nd pic in the middle)

Those are some great looking Shiska. Couldn’t look any healthier.

i been slow on the updates but things are progressing.
Transplanting everything and it’s been real busy around here with 4 days of constant snow removal LOL Yesterday and today are beautiful sunny days… -26C right now for the high today. Was -35C overnight.
Here’s a shot of my backyard… my greenhouse is almost buried. My construction design for the greenhouse has held up to 7 winters now but I dunno if it will make it through this year.
More snow coming starting tomorrow and we are supposed to get another foot a least.
Fun Times… I love winter though, and seeing everything covered in a blanket of frosty whiteness is just beautiful to me. Some people like summer flowers and green grasses… meh… LOL

So here’s some pics of the garden today
The Shishkaberry project is in high gear and I’m flipping the Ustad Shishkaberry3f2 seed run tomorrow and I updated those in that thread.
My 2017 shishkaberry plants are doing great and some awesome stem rub smells though there are a couple real standouts. It is looking like I have mostly males in the first 10 seeds (batch B) and those will be killed except for any standouts. I’ve up-potted the two that interest me the most out of batch b. There might be one more … I’m still evaluating.
Here’s the two standouts so far in the 2017 batch b . (the ustad shishkaberry 3f2 are batch A)

I seem to be missing the pics of the rest of Batch B LOL… I’ll get some tomorrow.
Here is the batch C group , there are 10 2017 and 3 90’s Blues. I up-potted those to 1 gallons over the last few days.

hmmmm what else
The runt P98 Bubba Kush S1 has started to take off in that usual slow bubba fashion. It’s turning into a nice little plant. I’m going to start training it soon as it naturally topped itself at birth and wants to be two headed LOL

Then there is the lone Reeferman G13 that was also a mutant runt that has turned into a real nice plant. I am hoping it is a girl

and speaking of G13… Here are the LUI x G13 … not really sure if the G13 in this cross is reeferman’s G13 or a different source. They came from the freezer of the late Classic Seeds so I’ll have to ask the donor that gifted them to me.

and to wrap things up for tonight… Katsu’s Schromba on the left and from the same donor as the G13 , Lui x G13… Rude Dog (fem) on the right.
These are getting transplanted to the next pot size tomorrow.

So the Ustad Shishkaberry 3f2 are in the flower room now for an open pollination.
I’m tempted to throw a DJ’s 90’s Blues female in there for shitsngiggles… One of the females I have is definitely a blueberry scented gal.
Couple more weeks and I’ll be popping more seed
Anyhow, here is the last pics of the full room before I took the shishkaberry 3f2 out. Had to take two pics from the door to get everything.

LOL well thanx
I’ve had this HLG 600 Bspec veg light now for a little over a year now. I bought it during one of thier scratch and dent sales and got a warrantied refurbished unit for 500 off what it would have cost me (landed).
I’m no expert on these LEDs I just wanted to replace a power sucking magnetic ballast 1000w Halide in my veg room. I’m used to growing in a circle footprint around the halide under a parabol reflector… old school I know LOL
So when I swithced to the HLG 600 Bspec it was trial by fire LOL I burned some plants keeping it a distance from the canopy that i see others using with LED panels… big mistake. I scorched some plants pretty good. So I raised the light until the plants were responding favorably. I have that light 6feet off the floor so I can walk under it without bumping it which is nice. I have had “many” burns from contacting HPS and Halide bulbs accidentally while bent over tending the plants… no more
So ya, 6ft off the floor and currently dialed up to 80% power and it seems to perform well for the seedlings and there is some nice uniformity to the garden I am noticing as well.
The 5 x 7 ft flower room I’ll be using is destined for an LED light makeover but for now it’s powered by a new switchable magnetic ballast and Hortilux HPS bulb with a simple batwing reflector.
Stay tuned, I might do an update later this evening… clone cutting time for a bunch of plants so I have to get prepared

Good morning O.G. !

well still boring veg pics but hey… they gotta veg right?
My 2017 Shishkaberry plants are being slow to show sex except for the 2 females that showed early. Those 2 were transplanted to #5T pots already and have settled in nicely.
I am happy that one of my 2 favorites in this group is a female and I really dig this plant so it’s going to be cloned and held as I go through the seeds. I think I have found a nice male in the group too but like I say, they are being slow to show.
Here is the favorite so far

Why do I like her so much? She has very complex and familiar stem rub smells. Her leaf shape and detail are similar to my favorite female from years ago. She has the random double serration trait, and that pale colored line down the center of the leaves that end in a reddish center where they meet at the petiole. Also her dark almost blue leaf color and the gentle widening curve to her leaf shape, ending in that elongated leaf tip. She is a close facsimile to one of my favorite keepers from years ago.
Here is a closer look at a leaf from #1

here is the other female to show from that group

what else…
I took clones from my Grape Pie and OGKB 2.0 mums. They need a good clean up and trimming back but I wanted them bushy because these will eventually be going out to the greenhouse in June. It’s neat too because these exact plants have been kept alive since last summer with steady trimming back and keeping them in small pots. Once they hit those 7gallon pots though… wow they exploded. So ya, they need a good cleaning up after taking a dozen clones from each
Grape Pie , which will be one of the focuses of my breeding this summer as I plan to reverse a few clones with STS and use that to make a few S1 selections… like Biker x Grape Pie, P98 Bubba x Grape Pie, G13 x Grape Pie, OGKB 2.0 x Grape Pie, Pink Kush Bx2 x Grape Pie, Slurricane x Grape Pie and possibly Fire OGKB x Grape Pie… we will see

OGKB 2.0 Mum

What else …
Reeferman’s G13 that was a runt… ain’t no runt no mo… This is actually turning into one of my favorite plants in the room. The stem rub on this one is strong and dank that hits the nose sweet at first but fades to a dank skunky burnt rubber… interesting. I am stoked that this turned out to be female. I also have LUI x G13 seedlings going and these will be worked with that lone G13… more on that later in the season.

then there is front left to right against the back wall… Horny Horse Cherry Red Shitfest , Schromba and Rude Dog

and a couple Garden shots of the rest of the plants
The 7 pots of the first batch of the 2017 shishkaberry. These are the ones being slow to show. They are also really not liking the 1 gallon pots and are screaming to be transplanted as evidenced by the yellowing out. I have been feeding these lightly and they could really use a stiff feed

and last pic … first 3 on the left (from top to bottom) are the second seed pop of the 90’s blues. Top row of 5 are the LUI x G13 and the other 10 are the 2nd batch of the 2017 shishkaberry. These are all just on water only still but today will be thier first feed.

and that’s all for now!!

That’s awesome @Heliosphear , thanx for letting me know. I’m excited to see what everyone starts finding in thier packs.

I’m going to start a Strawberry Hill thread in the breeder section for anyone who wants to share pics, comments or links to thier grow threads. Probably closer to the weekend as I am swamped the next couple days.
