Afghaniganza 3: Girls Gahn Wild

Technically I’m allowed to if I can keep it out of view, but I live in an area that has a lot of meth and heroin addicts and more break-ins than average, and is close enough to be visible (and smellable) from a fairly busy road. The only people legally allowed to grow cannabis here are medical patients, and the number one reason for getting a doctor’s rec. is chronic pain, so growing a plant out in the open is a bit like having a sign that says “the people here have a pretty good chance of having prescription painkillers on hand”. Whether you do or don’t have prescription meds, it’s maybe not a great idea to let other people (like a couple of my sketchy neighbors) get that impression if it’s easily avoided.

Great looking plants… :+1:

Sorry if you mentioned this earlier but what medium is Ms. Goliath in? Looks like you have a floraflex cap on top of something so I can’t quite tell what’s in there.

Coco grower here… for now at least, it’s my best option. I have an unfinished basement that I want to put stud walls in, and make some dedicated areas. I’m contemplating going to flood and drain at that point… but still thinking about it.

Is that maybe 2 or 3 gallons of coco? Lots of people seem to like coco, which brand do you use and is it bricks or loose?

Thanks for the reply!

I use an autofeed system so that I can go down to 1 gallon pots. Sometimes I set it to feed 5x per day, and it still isn’t even enough. I think it’s definitely easier to grow in larger pots, but I compromise to keep my material waste down and keep it easy for disposal as well.

I’ve been using cocobliss 10lb bricks. They’re washed better than some other ones that I’ve used, and they have a consistent coarseness. I always test EC when I expand bricks. I’ve been burned (literally) by salty media in the past.

I’ve been curious about those. I use Canna for the same reason, after having been burned (lol) by some others. Might give that a try next time.

Hopefully I’m not littering up your thread too much with questions, but I’m running my first run to waste system in years with 4 inch rockwool cubes (normally do recirculating) and I’m doing about 5 times a day drip feeds and I’m trying to balance keeping them wet to avoid salt build up and not producing too much run off…

Are there any tricks or anything I need to watch out for when dialing in drip times, or is it just a trial and error everyday until you feel like you have it about right?

Thanks again for the info!

Well, I get hit by salt buildup all the time… so maybe I’m not the best to ask lol. Or maybe I am because I’m experienced… :joy:

But basically, the first thing I’ve learned through trial and error is when plants start drinking a lot. With pots as small as mine, if you miss that window, it doesn’t recover easily. This grow, I missed it because life and such… but if you have say a 5 gallon pot, then your medium takes 5x longer to dry up than a 1 gallon pot. So it’s easier not to get wrecked by thirsty girls.

Once I pot them from 16oz to 1 gallons, I start them in flower and I start feeding them every other day. Usually before the end of the first week, you can feed them daily. Then after another half week, up to 2x daily. About a week of that 3x… Feeding them 3x daily is enough for some strains, but not for heavy feeders.

About two weeks after buds start forming is when you really want to start checking things. Go to your plants right before a feeding and check that the medium isn’t dry. It shouldn’t even be close to dry. If your pots get really light between feedings, then you’re on thin ice and you need to jack up the feeding frequency.

I also use perlite at about 30%. Coco holds a pretty good amount of air, but in small pots, the roots can compact too much and drainage suffers. The downside is that now the medium retains 30% less water. But the upside is that with the perlite, it’s pretty hard to drown the plant. It’s still possible to suffocate the roots with pure coco, especially if your roots grow very dense. I would only use pure coco in ~3gal pots or larger, personally.

If you ever see your leaf tips browning, salt buildup. Flush a bit, and maybe use a lower EC.

Another thing you can do is measure your runoff. If your runoff EC is more than about 0.2EC higher than your input feeds, you have salt buildup.

Thanks for the in depth reply! I’ll keep an eye on the run off and moisture level and see if I can find a nice balance… I think my situation is similar to yours so this should be plenty applicable. Thanks again!

Hey man

Plants looking great! Those ones are monsters. Haha freaks and geeks. Love it! I wish I could do a stellar outdoor grow with some of those but I’d have to keep my outdoor plants low too. Lol! Damn city growing.

Doing great work like always amigo !

This is from one of the smaller ones I was trimming. Didn’t yield for shit and grew weird, but it looks like it’s going to be quite a nice smoke. Very enticing smells – like a cherry scented potpourri.

I just smoked some and it’s a really great high. Nice smooth flavor for not having cured at all. Very pain relieving. I’ve had a bit of a headache and sinuses the last two days, and it’s helping quite a bit. My arms and legs also feel a bit of warmth and numbing. Quite medicinal!

Been smoking on sativas lately and this is a nice change of pace.

F2 seeds of (LowDakxCherry Queen) x (LowDakxCherry Queen).

Found this in the mix, TWINS, if you look closely.
We’ll see if they both live or not. Ive had this before, and there is usually a strong and a weak seedling.

They look like clams with their tongues out, looking to find something to eat.

I get it quite a bit also and you’re correct there definitely is a dominant.
