@HolyAngel "I don’t think they deserve more than $1/seed for that “quality” and “work” they did, and F1 chucks should be cheaper than any worked line, period IMO.
I have to agree with you 100% that is why I just bought 6 packs of beans 10 seeds each
from Hybrid From Hell as they work there stuff and still only charge 19 US dollars a pack
but it is not the stuff most people are looking for
but I have posted on the Danish Forums watched grows of the work
and they do like to grow trees
They could be Danish hacks but I will give them a try
I’m not weighing in on the ethical question, but rather the latest discussion correlating price with amount of work put into a strain. Does Bodhis disclose on his strains how much it’s been worked? He uses a fair amount of elite clones- is he also just getting an elite female, crossing w one of his stud males, then releasing the seeds? Or is he working them a gen or more after the cross of the elite w the stud? What about if he’s using one of his own strain females- does he select or work both the males and females he uses in the crosses for a generation or 2 or is he just popping a few packs of that strain and going w the best in that generation? Probably things no one really knows and most breeders keep pretty close…
My understanding is he does use a lot of elite clones for the moms, but for the males he does seem to be hunting through things to find and/or breeding things to find them. And he does occasionally line breed them out too, like the purple unicorn he bred to f3/f4 for crosses, and then released the full on f5.
@dequilo they ship to the states? I might have to order some things with those prices. I’m not big into the current hype stuff, been trying to find all the goodies from my youth instead.
I guarantee some of outdoor growers will prove this topic… for me it will start March 10th. And I have seeds ranging from one dollar a piece to 40 a piece…
If you bought them do whatever you want to hell with anyone who gets mad. If they were gifted to you by the breeder the respecting then I’d say respect their wishes/keep them for your head.
Don’t have anything more to say that @vernal hasn’t already. The seed situation and ‘breeder’s ethics’, as a whole, are just designed to prop-up an existing group of cannabis breeders at the expense of the plant. It is a protection network that you ‘buy into’ by ‘paying your dues’ and ‘playing the game’ while the genetic fabric of the plant collapses.
It is an extreme example of short sightedness in the pursuit of profit and the protection of a dying industry (100 dollar seed packs). You’ll notice that Wall St. uses a similar veneer of ‘ethics’ to normalize their flavor of greed, too. Milton Friedman would love the cannabis industry.
