Another run in the two by two

I started to see some interveinal chlorosis which I assume is some magnesium hunger or just natural senescence. I left myself some wiggle room when I amended the bed earlier this run, so I watered in some Epsom salt, about 5 total grams. The ppm spike in the top 6” from that much salt is about 35ppm. I’m also backing off the liquid eggshells from here out as my calcium, especially soluble calcium, was already quite high and I may be locking out other nutrients by continuing to add that in my nutritive waterings. Otherwise I’m liking what I see and smell in the tent!

The frost is coming in on the leaves, the colas are filling up, and the buds are getting stinky. There’s a very distinct difference between stem rub and the buds in terms of aroma. The stems produce a sharp funky smell, sort of sour pine-skunk, whereas the buds are much more fruity. I’m hoping some of the stem aromas show up in the final product but hey, I’m not gonna complain about a fruit harvest either. Looking forward to see how she develops :+1:t4:

Progress report on two of the colas.

Fat stalk on this lady. I think the worms have been stirring shit up around here too as some of the higher roots are showing.

Trying to get better at snapping photos of the buds. Flash has been helping :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Definitely getting close but I think the proverbial “two more weeks” applies. At least two. This is around day 65 I believe.

As this grow starts to approach the finish line, I can’t help but start thinking about what I want to do next round. I’ve been having fun with the auto-flowers, but part of me wants to do a photo/regs run. If I run regs though I have to run at least three seeds I think, and from past experience that means I should probably be running 12/12 asap in the cycle. Otherwise I end up with a jungle that becomes difficult to manage.

It’s up between Blue Tara F2 and some Spirit Train F2 seeds. I ran the Spirit Train before and remember the very unique terps on one of the plants… she produced a pickle aroma that I think comes from the Kashmir heritage. And of course reading up on Blue Tara’s origins, I think they’re both slam dunks. I’m tempted to run both and go very aggro with the planting density and pruning, and flip very early. All thoughts for now, but just getting it out there while I stew on the options a bit.

Getting very close! Leaving town for a long weekend, then I’ll be on trichome duty for the next week or so.

The density on these flowers is nuts! Good smells too- I got back from a long weekend away and the tent had a hint of airport coffee when I stuck my head in. Closer sniffs and it gets more funky/sour, on a candy backbone. There’s a ton of amber on the sugar leaf trichomes but the bud trichs still have a little ways to go.

Is there a ph shift or magnesium or iron deficiency? Looks kind of pale on top.

Likely magnesium, but maybe a combination of magnesium and iron. Didn’t really start yellowing until flower, starting at the uppermost fan leaves, and seemingly slowing down after supplementing the epsom salt. I say it may be iron as well since the pH started at 7.0 even this run, and the additions of all the additional cations could be driving the pH up slightly. I did some defol last night, you can see the under canopy didn’t really get any of the same symptoms, and being that it’s day 80 or so, it’s probably an expected amount of fade at this point. :man_shrugging: Curious what next round will bring

Decided to do a staggered harvest. The lower nugs are still fairly clear in the trichs and could stand to mature a bit and maybe pack some density though I’m not holding my breath on that one. Here’s some shots

You can see where the leaves by the fan got beat up but hey, eggs for an omelette or something.

Chopped another bunch of buds, leaving only the most immature undergrowth on the plant. It’s the kind of material I dread trimming anyways so any kind of improvement is a win in my book. Also, didn’t feel like playing Tetris with the buds on the drying racks so running out of room in the fridge isn’t really a problem. By the time I finish chopping I can rearrange some of the shrunken material and should have enough room for the rest.

Was that staggered harvest to judge your harvest and see your preference of them?

Nawww I just did a shit job of managing the canopy. I did little training and defoliation so the top buds matured a lot faster. I could see the trichs were immature on the lowers and the buds deep in the bush were pretty pale and underdeveloped. Those buds are now getting a lot of light with everything else removed :+1:t4:

Hmm cool interesting never thought about it nice to know!!

I don’t think I’ll get a lot of extra density out of those buds, but the trichomes are clouding up and the aroma is there.
