Anybody else like to fish?

Ha, perfect! I miss surf fishing.

I tried a bit last time we drove around out east a few years ago, just casting from shore and wading wherever we were. All I got were tons of sea perch and a couple small silver fish (mackerel?).

I was using spinners and similar things you would use to shore fish in freshwater. They all rusted to shit I didn’t even think about the saltwater lol

It’s a complete different game, heh. I lived on the coast of North Carolina and surf fished with sand fleas for Pompano and fresh shrimp for anything else. When certain species “run” you use spoons or big jigs and shit. Big Bluefish and Sea Trout. It’s a great way to relax and drink beer. I lived a block from the ocean. Me and the dog would go most every evening.

I live in Australia and TBH , I would fish in a kiddies pool for guppies if that’s all there was available
I am very lucky to live amidst great salt and fresh water locations … So Trophy rainbows and browns are achievable in the fresh … All manner of beasties can be found in the ocean … I’d catchem all if n I could lol

Love to saltwater fish for fish large enough where 1 fish means a family of 5 eat well. I do brackish water fish for rat reds if we don’t head to deeper waters. I am lucky enough that an hour boat ride means the difference of 30’-1100’ of water. Tuna, cobia (ling/lemon fish), dolphin (mahi), grouper, shark (my favorite; no bones, light meat, not heavy fish taste), amberjack, snapper, etc… are all my targets.

When is the last time anyone went crabbing? When I was 16 and lived in nyc. I bought a huge crab trab and I used to toss it in the ocean near the docks. I Would bring home bushels of blue claw. I would sell most to the restaurants and bring home the rest for my family to cook up. I miss not living near the ocean anymore.

I dont crab as it is literally a 10 minute drive to the boat docks where i can buy all the crabs i care to eat. Then again, i hate picking crab meat as it is too much effort vs reward.

Crab legs are another story. I will gladly go to a casino and eat my 30$ worth of crab legs.

Ohhh I love those snow crab legs at the buffet! I think I have a few arteries clogged from all the butter lol lol

My issue is that the casino makes them bland for everyone. I am a pepperhead. I like all my boiled seafood hot enough to make me sweat. Most of the food i eat has habanero or hotter on it (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).

Man I used to love to sit and pick fresh steamed blue crabs and drink beers for a whole afternoon or evening. I really love fresh soft shells. I have a great recipe for them. I lived in a neighborhood that was famous for it’s crabbers and a couple had the all night water troughs set up to catch them right as they molt. Can’t get fresher than that. That was on Collington Island in Kill Devil Hills at the Outer Banks of NC. I miss feasting on fresh gulfstream seafood.

If you go down to Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island it’s still pretty cool. Mostly National Seashore. North end is pretty busy. Smoking good seafood though.

The mud minnows landed 3 Blue crabs and a catfish but no keepers. The survivors received fresh bucket of water and aeration until next outing. There were lots of folks boating and fishing the river today
