Anyone have diabetes?

time to plant some greens and do some cardio. i’m not religious about it, but i am one of those who had to drastically change their diet, or else. now it’s the second phase of that, a re-commitment.

You are lucky your doc is a bit more educated than most, at least he is trying to be helpful.

Yeah so much food is touted to be healthy when it’s the opposite. It makes sense it’s healthy so you don’t question it, but when you understand or experience the direct result on a BP on BG meter, you know whether its right for you or not.

Processed fruit juice is one of the worst things you can drink apart from booze lol, but fruit in moderation with its fiber is not as bad. I eat a lot of berries, high in fiber vits and mins, low in carbs compared to fruit.

If you want to get deep into it, and start looking at polyphenols, in fruit and veges, some are very toxic. Kale proposed as a super food, is very toxic with its polyphenols, this can cause leaky gut issues.

Which is also one of the problems with grains and gluten apart from spiking blood sugar sadly, the hardest thing I found next to chocolate and booze to avoid is bread. I miss my fried egg french bagget sandwich for lunch lol.

Another thing a lot of people are not aware of is salt intake. Supposed to be bad for your BP, but the studies were not done properly, now they have been re assessed and the rise in BP is only temporary lasting 15 to 30 minutes depending on how well your kidneys function is.

Studies are now showing that low sodium intake can elevate insulin resistance. The unofficial levels are now 2 to 3 times the government recommended amounts to help with lowering insulin resistance. I add a 1/4 teaspoon of pink rock salt to all my water/ apple cider vinager drinks for the trace minerals. Apple cider vinegar also lowers insulin spikes when drunk with food.

I didn’t think it was directed at me, just curious why you thought so. I tend to forget other people dont tend to see things the same way I do mostly, for a change its not that tinfoily compared to my usual information :joy:

My wife has been an intermittent faster all her life, she just eats when she is hungry sometime twice a day sometimes nothing, she consumes a lot of carbs when she does, which is hard when I do 90% of the cooking, especially 5 days into a 6 day fast and she wants sausage, fried egg’s
, chips and toast, smothered in tomato ketchup lmao.

She has been the same weight all her life, her body is fat adapted which allows for high carb intake without too much problem with insulin resistance atm, but the auto immune problems are starting now, so she is eating a lot of anti inflammatory foods and cutting back on the booze.

At some point when the inflamation pain becomes to much she may have to reduce her intake, time will tell

I am thinking of growing micro greens, food especially organic is getting rediculous in price now. Plus being dependant on supply chains is getting worse as well.

I have done no exercise to lose weight, which shocked me. I come from a body building back ground, so I believed exercise was essential for weight loss. It’s not, but it does move the weight off faster, as well as increase your metabolism with the extra muscle mass.

I used to be a pretty big guy, well still am 6ft 4in in the morning 6ft 2.5 at night lol. So I was sceptical at how much weight I could shift as I can’t lift anything over 30lbs now, because of the damage to my c spine and nerves.

Now my neurologist has told me my neck is actually improving, I am contemplating getting a home gym, and adding some muscle back on my body.

The wife thinks I am too skinny now at just over 200lbs. I don’t think I will ever get back to 280lbs in good condition, it took a lot of food and steroids to get there, but I am hoping to get some good gains from muscle memory in the next couple of years.

When you fast your body makes 500 times the normal amount of growth hormone, from the stress of no food, if you lift weights as well it can get up in the thousands of times more with fasting and the right amino acid supplements just before bed time.

This allows you to burn fat as HGH uses ketones for fuel and makes your muscles bigger at the same time.

Another experiment on myself to try and see if the info is correct, hopefully I can resolve some other problems I have with carpal tunnel, arthritis and my hand tremors as well.

I don’t know if he was more educated than yours, but he was very blunt. i said ‘doc, what’s wrong with me?’, he sed ’ U R FAT!

Took some pride swallowing and gumption, but i went from 325 to 250, all natural. Full disclosure, I joined weight watchers, and the ol’yenta running the class basically shamed me into losing weight. i showed up to meetings, weighed in, the whole 9. not easy, took some doing, mentally. I now ride 235-250 depending on time of year.

Gave up:soda, sugar(added), milk, to name a few. Took binges down from constant to 1 a week, then 1 a month, didnt try to cold turkey it, was real with myself. ‘man’s gotta know his limitations’

Gave up all alcohol, other than vodka. Also, not easy, skipped that one on st. patty’s day

Road the bike, jogged. It took all that to erase decades of twinkies and chicken parm heros.

I had skills in a business, so I made a quick ascent, and was basically responsible for everything from trade shows to toilet paper, and everything in between. This put me at a desk for loooong hours + chix parm, well you get the idea.

Better now, trying to keep momentum, and stay on this side of the grass :open_mouth:

When I got an office desk job, that was when the pounds started gaining exponentially. It’s definitely a killer.

With the fasting it was a gradual thing, moving the eating times close together.

Same with the long term fasts they started once I hit 20 hours a day of no food. It then went to 48 hours, then the next week it was 72, the week after 96, and so on until I hit 6 days. I had to stop then as my BP got so low I would almost black out every time I stood up lol, that is my learned limitation.

I still drink my maple whisky occasionally, replaced wine and beer with home made probiotic fermented ginger beer, very little alcohol or sugar but still very nice to drink being fizzy.

It wasn’t until I started the low carbs that my weight started falling off along with the extended fasting. I dropped 60lbs in the first 3 months, then due to my wife worrying I was going to starve myself to death, I reduced my long fasts to once a month and increased my calories by 500 a day which slowed the process down a bit.

It takes time to wreck a body, so it takes time to repair it. Now I have a proven weight loss method for myself, I can take it easier and get some use out of all the new pairs of jeans I bought once a month as they would be falling down around my ankles very quickly lol.

I promised the wife I would stop losing weight when I got to a 34 inch waist, I was 46. I am at 34 now but she thinks I am still at 38. She keeps saying that last 4 inches is taking forever lol.

I think I can go to 32 no problem possibly even 30, as I figure I have about another 20lbs to go overall to see my abs, as that’s usually the last place I tend to lose it all.

My doc actually told me to eat MORE salt because I don’t eat processed food.

Im skinny as a rail, 10 years type 2, I take 2 different meds. First time I ever checked my sugar it was 500+ on the tester.:open_mouth: the meds keep me around 150 which is still a little too much. Covid-19 made it almost impossible to get a doctor appointment.

I’m a type 1 brittle diabetic for 21 years. I wasn’t always a diabetc. It’s genetic with me.

Ive been smoking weed on and off since I’ve been 13. Lately I get anxiety from some strains so I try to avoid them. Cbd has helped relax me and I think help with insulin absorption.

I’m curious if anyone has noticed any strain that help them with diabetes more than other strains.

For diabetes - Ayurveda (traditional Indian medicine) from india
uses Amla (indian gooseberries).

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/1934578X0800300230

You can use Triphala - which has Amla and two other fruits (Amazon, or indian store near you)

or use Amla and Tumeric - also called Nishamalaki

Less sugar is definitely better. Have your doctor do labs to test for diabetes. It could just be lower leg and foot neuropathy. I have that. The worst thing for it is lack of mobility. Sitting all day is bad. Wearing compression knee socks helps and elevating you legs above your heart as much as possible. Nothing beats exercise and mobility. Short walks and bike rides. :sunglasses: :metal:
