BeagleZ Corner

I’ve been meaning to ask y’all about this: what’s the deal with the tobacco seeds that Bodhi’s sending out as freebies? I got some for the second time with the last order I placed with Headie’s and I dunno what the fuck I’m supposed to do with them. I mean, plant them, obviously, but why? Why are these tobacco seeds something we should be interested in?

I can’t speak for Bodhi but in Natural farming it is a pest management crop. All the pests will go to the tobacco instead of your cash crops

Didn’t know this… now I need to order more seeds just so I can get the “limited edition Bodhi Tobacco” seeds

ooh which one’s did you get? I’ve been growing them out. I think I have the Maria Sabina F2’s, and I have the Maria Sabina x Trippy Citrus Hopi collab that came out last year. Got 3 of the latter in the ground now actually, and two Cherry Red 401’s.

And yeah what BeagleZ said, if you grow anything outdoors, flying bugs for sure will be all over the tobacco instead of your plants, whether they be veggies or herb.

I think maybe to mix together for ceremonial type purposes. When I was on Kauai living on the beach, I ran into some Hari-Krishna (aka feral hippies) type hippies that smoked ceremonial cannabis mixed with tobacco out off a Conch shell.

Ceremonial tobacco is also used for smudging , whereby the dried tobacco leaves are burned (often in combination with the other 3 plants) and the smoke is said to open the soul to allow the spirits to bring their healing powers and remove negative energy. Smudging can be done alone or in a group smudging ceremony.

Ahhhh, okay. That’s what I was thinking, but the way they were labeled made me think that that tobacco was something “special.” Something we should make sure lasts.

You seen those seeds? They’re fucking TINY. I’m sure I could sprout them, but still…. They’re fucking tiny haha.

I think your theory is more sound @CrunchBerries

I think Bodhi even talks about his relationship with tobacco and how he uses it, in the Potcast episode.

The ones that were collected at some spot in Mexico. Hang on, lemme go inside and look, I’ve got the pack sitting on our dining room table…

Nicotiana Rustica “Maria.” No fucking idea.

I’ve grown my own tobacco before and they are a beautiful plant. It would be fun to grow some and then smoke it out of a Conch shell, while om-shanti chanting poolside.

Yeah I primarily use them at gatherings, for offerings, cleansings, and other such stuff ^^

The Maria Sabina line is supposed to be unsmokeable, like 10+mg per leaf or something crazy, most cig tobacco is like 1-2mg per leaf.

@minitiger best way to sprout them is a damp media or root riot/jiffy pot or something, just sprinkle like 10 seeds right on top and wait. Keep it warm and damp like normal and they should pop within 5-10 days.

Can split the cube up once they get a big bigger than this and transfer into a pot or something, go from there. Best way to sprout strawberries too btw.

That’s too much work… haha!

Seriously, though, I don’t like mixing my weed with tobacco. I knew a chick who insisted on doing that, but I mean… It fucks with the flavor. Doesn’t smoke the way I wanna smoke. You don’t know if, like,”Do I feel this way because of the weed? Or is it because I just inhaled a half-gram of tobacco in thirty seconds?” haha.

Maybe I’ll plant those tobacco seeds outside in the next couple days, though. I’m mayyyyybe thinking I might be seeing a little aphid damage on the Diesel Therapy plants I have growing now, already, early in veg. Anything that might attract pests to another spot is worth it.

Just as an aside, I really think the Chem male that Skunk VA is using does not impart any sorta pest resistance at all.

Quick google search
Many online gardening sites suggest using the tobacco plant as an insect repellent, but this is incorrect . These plants are insect attractors and should be thought of as 'a trap crop.

Really? Damn, man, that’s pretty bizarre. So then Bodhi sending those seeds out has gotta be strictly for a “pest resistance/deterrent thing,” right?

Alright, alright, alright, fine! I’ll fucking google it and do some reading haha…

Naw dude. Not like that. Ha!Ha!

yeah can soak the leaves in a 5 gallon bucket for a week or so and you’ll have a shitload of natural insecticide. or offer it to the sky father or some other such diety :joy:

That’s a ceremonial line that’s been cultivated for hundreds of years for that(ceremonies) specific purpose. I think they do still smoke it occasionally, but not much obviously.

Yeah, dude, I’m just fucking around haha. I will Google it and read it at some point today, but for real, I was just talking shit. You know I love you, no worries.

Ohhhhh… Okay, yeah, that sounds familiar to me, actually. So you just soak the leaves and then use the resultant solution as a foliar or whatever? Yeah, I think I actually have read about that before, sounds right.

But still… I mean… That’s why Bodhi is sending out those tobacco seeds? So we can all grow tobacco and eventually make our own organic pesticides? Seriously? I feel like there’s something I’m missing.

Not to mention that you don’t usually hold a hit of tobacco in your lungs for several seconds before exhaling!
