Cool flex, grow it and tell us how the smoke is
Seems it may have a more harmful effect on bumble bees. Unless you keep honeybees, bumble bees are, apparently, our biggest pollinators.
That is pretty neat… it’s been so long since I’ve grown outside I really miss it.
I remember something about that, but the jist was that it’s not normal, lol!
By far the best meme to come out of OG
I have two packs of this cross. if you want we can share pollen and make some f2s.
I hope a month after spraying would be long enough that the plants would be safe for them by the time the flowers start to develop and attract the bees. Presumably that should be ok for them?
There’s domesticated honey bees in the area, as well as bumbles and other diverse wild bees. I try to keep diverse food sources available for all the different kinds.
Nah, nothing anyone says on the internet offends me really, haha. I’ve been using it since BBS days, I’ve seen it all. Shit, y’all could all be ChatGPT bots by now, for all I know. And, if one if y’all did tell me to eat a bag of dicks, I’d either ignore it, or maybe, I’d just take it as an ego check, and try to learn something about myself. Sometimes mine gets outta control, but that’s just me… you guys are free to do whatever the hell you want the internet. I’m no internet police.
Nice, I see you’re a smart man and you’ve got plans put those in a tin can in the back of your hot garage for ten years and then try to them auction off when you can’t pay rent
Same. Privileges of being indoors. Filters for intake. Heat treatments to clean the room/tent in between runs. I used to spray much crap for nearly 15 years before some realizations. 7 years now without any sprays. With the exception of one incident in veg when i sprayed spinosad to eliminate thrips. Oh and i sterilize my coco, easy to do as i only grow for myself. large scale would be impossible with my method or if u have pets that are constantly introducing critters. Have to admit i will go back to organics, living soil eventually.
And as far as cussin… science has something to say … Swearing Is Actually a Sign of More Intelligence - Not Less - Say Scientists : ScienceAlert
Just dont be a meanie.
Spinosad is responsible for the production of hydrogen cyanide and is a banned substance here in Canada.
Interesting, I’ve heard that about Myclobutanil (Eagle 20) but first time hearing that about Spinosad. Could you expand on that or provide some links for further reading?
When heated, myclobutanil decomposes to produce corrosive and/or toxic fumes, including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen cyanide, and nitrogen oxides.[3][4]
lol!
I made so many cartoons about that myclobutanil crap! I don’t ever say it’s name… because that will summon evil
OK yes, spinosad has a cyanide group:
“HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, oxides of nitrogen, hydrogen cyanide, and various chlorinated and fluorinated organic compounds.”
That’s the line from the material safety sheet about spinosad.
Haha nice.
Thanks for the quote, going to share with a few local freinds who occasionally use it to control leaf miners and loopers.
So would you say spinosad is something that should be avoided entirely?
I have used one or two treatments in early veg. But I’m a med patient so I don’t fuck around with anything that could potentially be hazardous, even in small doses.
Also I’m curious, do you suppose the cyanide compounds are present in the spinosad bacteria itself, or the processed liquid substrate used to culture it and keep it shelf stable?
Don’t forget about that dupont material safety sheet on the teflon either haha.
That stuff is always interesting. A while back I spent a few days pouring over safety sheets and independent studies on a Dow Chemical lubricant used in an obscure guitar effect from the 60’s to determine whether it was safe for me to store and operate the effects unit inside my home.
Also, @minitiger slow mode is deactivated now that cooler heads prevail.
Interested in your perspective as well.
One big reason I’m a fan of biologicals and predators is that I don’t have a strong chemistry background to sufficiently scrutinize these things. That and having known enough people who worked with chemicals that were supposedly safe in non-cannabis horticulture and floriculture occupations decades ago that ended up suffering with health problems due to exposure. I’m not an outdoor canna guy so no idea if that’s an acceptable route with respect to budworms but it sounds like you’re (zephyr) already doing a bit of that with your pollinator garden.
Thanks! My linguistic OCD was going nuts I couldn’t get rid of that extra newline in the quote.
I’m a hardcore purist, the worst thing I’ll unleash is BT. Also practical, because if you got the mildew I’ll recommend the best treatment to wipe it out and keep you safe. Here’s my industry story:
“buddy” and I’ll never tell anyone who this was, asked me what I thought about using spinosad on his aphid problem. I told him that he would lose his license to grow weed. So I would never recommend using it.
“buddy” was running living soil etc organic thought it was cool OMRI certified, except that would cost him his livelihood he would be done as a grower.
Yeah it’s banned for use on commercial cannabis here. Technically though, wouldn’t it be fine for use in veg? Rinse off the plants later? Idk, I don’t use any of this stuff unless I have to and that’s only been one time. Spinosad and azamax respectfully. And I rinsed off the plants later.
They’re actually systemic, but if given enough time there should be basically none left in the plant. In terms of the banned substances, I’m super cautious. If I give someone advice that fucks up their life, I won’t be feeling very pumped about that.
interesting! I know the azamax can be systemic if you drench the pot or let the plant sit in it but if just spraying on the foliage and none on the media, it’s not supposed to really get into the plant no idea on spinosad though… And definitely better safe than sorry, like you’re implying! I’d only do it in veg and only on mom’s and stuff you’re not immediately flowering.
