Bodhi Time Bandit and Goji

Its great way to grow if you can bro… i ran no till pots for many years before moving into beds. Best advise i could give is just bigger the pot (fabric) the better lol…

Yeah, I considered what size pots to get for a few weeks before I settled on the 30 gallon pots. Four of those fit perfectly in one of those 4 x 4 hydro tray things. I thought about getting just one 120 or 150 gallon pot, but those are just so fucking big haha. It’s a real commitment, I think, switching to no-till. And I guess I’m just not there yet haha. Does that make me a bad grower…?

Who knows if no-till is objectively better over time. It sounds good but it’s 100% anecdotal, and we humans are notoriously bad witnesses and judges, especially of our own work. The only things that really interest me about it are the mycorrhizal network improving over time and the lowered cost of inputs. And I guess the set-it-and-forget-it approach. Out there somewhere a golddiggin ex is laughing her ass off while I admit I’m both lazy and cheap. lol

If I were setting up a commercial grow, I’d do a few trial runs and, if it went well, go no-till SIPs beds in a high-altitude place in the desert southwest. Make it as easy and simple and sustainably resource-light as possible after the initial setup. Those take such little maintenance once they’re setup that it makes great financial sense.

Were I a homeowner, I’d try small-scale no-till, with a bed or two on a concrete floor so nothing would get ruined by spills and leakage. Maybe put them on casters if I had the space to move them around. I like tinkering and it would give me something else to do. If it went south, I’d probably rather just grow most everything outdoors and then do preservation runs indoors in tents like now.

Come to think of it, I’m the only bad grower. lol

Yeah, that’s been one of the main reasons why I haven’t switched to no-till yet: if it goes south. Then I have to deal with moving all that fucking soil out of my tent and starting over.

What’d Sam Elliott say about Jeff Lebowski? That he was the laziest man in Los Angeles? Which would put him in the running for laziest man world-wide? If The Dude was the laziest man in LA, I’m not far behind. Second place, maybe third…

Flower day 48! Getting pretty close. Actually, a couple of the Time Bandits look damn near done right now, but there’s no way that could be. I’m definitely gonna let them go at least 56 days. I might even bust out my loupe, even though that thing has proven to pretty worthless over the years. Every time I’ve ever looked through it, all of the trichomes just look super-silver and white to me, couldn’t tell if they’re cloudy or clear or amber or what. I usually just judge by pistils and that’s worked well for me, but these Time Bandits… Not very many white pistils left at all.

Also, been pulling off a BUNCH of dead, crispy leaves the last three waterings. That fucking TM7… Never shoulda used it. But it seems like the plants are doing fine, other than that, so…

Time Bandit #2

Time Bandit #3 (she’s starting to flop big-time, I really need to stake her)

Time Bandit #4

I LOVE the neon orange pistils on the #3 and #4, I dunno if y’all can see them in those pics or not. But those two’s pistils are just full-on, like, day-glo orange. I hope they stay that way once they’re dried.

And Time Bandit #6

Time Bandit #6 ended up being pretty tall, I dunno how I didn’t notice it until today haha. But I always take the plants out to water, set them on a table that’s about waist-high and today I noticed she was a good couple inches above my head. I’m 6’2". She didn’t stretch out of control or anything, but I wasn’t able to get any decent pics of her tops, is all I’m saying haha. Not too sure how I’ve been able to get pics of her tops before. Maybe I shrank.

Also, a few mornings ago, I opened the tent at lights-on and was moving the humidifiers in and out of the room to re-fill them and I caught a big whiff of something really fruity. They’ve been smelling tropical fruit-ish for a while now, but this was different, more earthy. I was like,“Gawddamnit, I know this smell, what is it…?” and then I realized it smelled exactly like our peach tree when it’s blooming. I thought that was pretty cool, never had a weed plant that smelled like peaches before. Of course, the next day, the smell had changed entirely haha…

And here are the two Gojis

Goji #3

Hoowee, she’s leaning and swaying big-time. I suspect that the Gojis are gonna take anther two-and-a-half to three weeks, so I absolutely will be staking and tying her in two days, next time I water.

Goji #3 closeups

And the Goji #9

Both of the Gojis have been smelling really “OG-ish” to me for a while now. And when I say “OG-ish” I mean that sort of men’s cologne/aftershave, kinda floral-type smell that I always associate with OGs. I dunno where people get that OGs smell lemon-y, the only OG I’ve ever smelled that I thought was lemon-y is the SFV OG. That one tastes lemon-y, too. But almost every other OG I’ve ever tried (and I’ve tried quite a few) always smells like a Middle Eastern dude in Beverly Hills to me. Too much aftershave, too much cologne, kind of musty… I dunno.

I worked in Beverly Hills for years, so sue me.

Both of the Gojis have also had a really noticeable cocoa/chocolate powder thing going on for the last couple weeks as well. Reminds me a lot of Gorilla Glue, actually. I think the classic OG smell will carry over through drying and curing, but I doubt that the chocolate thing will.

Anyway, yeah, so we’re at day 48 today. Been nothing but straight water since the whole TM7 thing, fighting the urge every day to do a little MBP top dress/K Silicate in the water combo haha. But I’ll get through it…

You’re knocking it out of the park this round! Despite the minor setbacks, those plants don’t seem to have missed a beat. The Time Bandits really seem to be HP leaners, some of which I found continue to stretch an inch or so a week after the initial big stretch in the first 3 weeks. Maybe that’s what’s going on with them?

About the cologne, I passed a couple of college derps that smelled like that yesterday at REI. Practically bathed in it, gold chains and expensive watches and douchebag deck shoes and all. Each unto their own. I prolly smell like thai curry anyway, since that’s a weekly affair here.

Those gojis look extra thick! Don’t water with anything extra. Let 'em ride but definitely do stakem up!

Welllllll, like I said, I’ve been pulling off crispy-ass leaves for the last five or six days. Just a gentle tug, actually. Anything that doesn’t come off super-easy, I’m not gonna force. But, if I’d have left those leaves on, they’d be looking a hell of a lot worse.

I agree that the Time Bandits seem HP-leaning. I’m glad I topped them, but I’d love to see somebody grow them out with a single stalk. I bet it’d just be a massive main cola. As it is, having been topped once (except for the #4, topped twice), the nugs are pretty dang chunky. And really, really dense already, too. That’s why I’m thinking they’re pretty close to being finished. Between how solid the nugs are and the lack of white pistils… Shouldn’t be too much longer now.

Speaking of douches, I’ve been looking into getting a rosin press, which I know nothing about, and watching videos on how to press, which I also know nothing about. If you ever wanna be driven crazy with loathing, watch a bunch of “how to press” videos all in a row for a few hours. Different kind of douche than the cologne-bathing, gold chain-wearing douches, but equally as bad. I mean, I’m pretty misanthropic, but I think even the average person couldn’t handle it. Just the sound of their voices… I did find a couple where the dude sounded like,”Okay, this is somebody that I could hang out with,” haha!

Oh man, both strains are looking damn near perfect!

Yeah if it was me, I would give the time bandits another week or so, maybe two. Get those hairs to brown up and recede almost fully into the calyxes and then pick it. But that’s just me, I don’t mind some amber, and I’ve found the extra time lets the lowers get to be just about right by the time I take the whole plant. This is on 3-4ft plants though without defoliation. You may not have that problem

And this was the least douchiest video I could find when I was researching this stuff last year

Yeah, the Time Bandits are not gonna be chopped any earlier than 56 days. I’m just surprised at how quickly they seem to be coming along. Kinda hoping that they start throwing out some white pistils again, to be honest, just because I’m not a huge fan of quick-finishing plants. At least, not that quick.

This grow actually started out as a Goji/Tangerine Kush/Prayer Tower f4 grow. The Tangerine and the Prayer Tower seeds were both about five years old. Actually, so were the Gojis. The plan was that the Tangerine and the Prayer Towers would be my day-time strains and the Goji would be for later in the day/evening strain. Only three of the Tangerine Kushes popped and only one of the Prayer Towers did, so over the course of like ten days, as the seeds didn’t break ground, I planted the Time Bandits. Then, all three Tangerines ended up male, which left me with just the Gojis and the TB’s.

This is a long-winded way of saying that I don’t wanna wait too too late on the Time Bandits, just because I don’t want everything to be on the lazier, heavier side. I’ve grown two of Bodhi’s GHash crosses and while they both start out pretty up, they invariably end up with me crashing out. Maybe I’ll just harvest the Gojis slightly early, I dunno.

That video’s okay. I can handle the guy doing the sifting, but the guy filming’s pretty annoying haha. It drives me nuts when a video starts out,”What up, YouTube?!?” or,”Hey, guys…” I realize that it’s virtually impossible to find a video that doesn’t start that way, I’m just sayin’…

Is that video where you got the idea for the dry ice and the sifting on the large surface? Or did you know about that already? It does seem to be a really good technique.

Oh yeah, I feel ya there. Trying to grow a daytime and a nighttime strain is rough sometimes, especially with regs. Hell just 1 strain of reg seeds can be rough

Yeah the opening is a bit rough but they go over some important things, how much material to use at a time, how much dry ice to use, how to agitate it properly, how to see the differences in quality, how to pre-press, how to press. Can likely skim through most of it at least to get the gist.

That video IS where I got the technique down for dry ice sifting. I knew of it beforehand but that video pretty much sealed the deal for me. And once I finally tried it, I won’t go back to any other way to get hash, it’s by far the easiest and the least time sink, just gotta be able to get dry ice locally.

Okay, yeah, I’ll check out the whole thing at some point here pretty soon. I watched the first couple minutes and was like,”Ahhhhh, I think that’s the technique that @HolyAngel was talking about…” Pretty cool. And you can use weed that’s already frozen for that? Or does it have to be un-frozen?

Btw, the best video I’ve found on pressing was the one on the Alchimia website, where the dude’s speaking Spanish. No clue what he was saying, no clue if he was a douche or not, but I still got the idea haha!

That video sounds familiar  pretty sure I watched that too before I started.

As for freezing or not, I have always frozen it first so I’m not sure. The dry ice is like -243 Fahrenheit so it will freeze it by itself no doubt, but having it prefrozen will help speed the process and lose less dry ice by the time you go to sift. I would say if starting with room temp material then I would go with double the amount of dry ice.

Normally you can do two to one, 1lbs dry ice for 2oz of frozen material give or take. Layer the material and dry ice as you put it in the bag and then let it sit for 3-5min first, then start.

So if room temp, I’d do 1lb dry ice/1oz material and let it sit for 10min to ensure it’s all as cold as possible.

You need the material as cold as possible to make the trichomes brittle and hard so they’ll snap off the stalks and fall down on to your collecting surface.

Wow :star_struck: They are all coming along so well and definitely have bounced back. I feel you having to harvest for consumption and low supply all that.
That being said, imo the TB 3 & 6 look the closest to done based on the pics. Maybe stagger your harvest of those two while the others finish properly. No judgment on my part either way. They look great and I’m enjoying you being so transparent and informative in this thread

Actually, I have a freezer bag filled with trim and larf from last harvest that’s been sitting in the freezer since late April, that’s why I asked. I’ll check out that video instead of peppering you with any more questions haha.

Thanks, dude! I’m gonna let them go 56 days, if they end up smoking a little heavy, so be it. Seven weeks seems awfully early. Plus, maybe they’ll fatten up some more. My last couple harvests have been a little lighter than I was hoping for, so any extra grams I can get will be a bonus.

Just think of it as selective defoliation. A little bit of that’s no big deal. They look like they’ve got plenty of soil nutrition left anyway. And consider going more than 8wks if you can stomach it and have the room. They’ll reward you, even though they look somewhat “done” by around 7wks. You’ll see a big final push in swell that last week 9 on most HP crosses, like @HolyAngel said. And they get a lot lot more potent that extra week, in my limited experience. I doubt you’ll get sleepy phenos out of the Gojis no matter what, so take those as long as you like.

Also, while anecdotal, I’ve read that some folks are thinking amber doesn’t mean loss of potency like the conventional wisdom states. Some people think amber can actually increase potency via higher thc%, not just the “couchlock” effects, and I feel like bodhi’s HP dad is one where that might be the case. 9wks is the sweet spot unless the mom’s a sativa. But it’s your grow and you’ll know.

I gotta stop being such a judgy prick too. lol I don’t dislike people in general, but lots of them for sure. Dabs are too much for my lungs. Handrolled cigs for 15 years.

I’m curious as to where I can read about this. I would hate to put in a whole summers worth of work to take a bit too early because of conventional “wisdom”.
