@GMan i understand that hail issue, small plants don’t take it very well. I’ve been lucky on the hail, it usually comes here with those pop up afternoon storms and is pretty hit and miss and…knock on wood, I’ve been lucky. Thanks Brother and I’m glad your tagging along, Good luck with your crop this year
@Joker glad to have you riding along. Things are just starting to happen around here
@kushdaddy Thanks Brother. I’ve always had to deal with the wildlife but that’s just part of it. The sticks really help the plants survive when they are small. Deer are hard on my plants, they tend to want to bed on them, I think it’s because of the cleared out level spot. After the plants get bigger they want to bed right up against them
@corey Thanks Bud. They do tend to take off under that real sun and fresh dirt. Honored to have you riding along
We saw this earlier this year. The storm season around here can been precarious for sure. Enough of this stuff can flatten a crop. Fortunately it only got a few branches of my buddies outdoor stuff.
That could definitely destroy a lot of shit. I have seen fields of corn stripped clean and bean fields flattened by it, luckily it’s a rare occurrence around here.
I will check into the Liquid Fence. Do you know how long an application last? Do I need to respray after every rain?
I would also search for a diy version if you are so inclined. I’d sacrifice a little time to keep a little jingle. I haven’t looked lately, but in sure info is out there. I think I remember something about egg whites. It’s been a long time.
@Badger thanks for the info. I did do some searching and they do have it in a granular form also. I would think the granular would work great for all season but I would like the spray directly on the plant when small to help make sure the rabbits don’t eat them.
I think I’m going to order some of the granular but im going to see about some homemade repellent. I need to do a recipe search. I know I can mash up some garlic and other ingredients, soak them for a day, strain and spray. I’ll post the recipe I decide on. Thanks Friend
Cucumbers breaking ground. I grow the vining instead of the bush type. I let them climb a tomato cage. That way I don’t have to bend over to pick them and they stay clean.
And my GGDP. The two in the dirt should be getting ready to take off. It usually takes a few days for the roots to take hold. I hope to get the ones still in cups out the next couple days
Just went in and checked the BOG Bogglegum f1s. They are all unsexed. I might try and save my best male and let it make just a few seed. I put these out 6 days… give or take a day. They have grew 2-3 inched. I just topped them all
What a great thread. Thanks for contributing, Bullskinner. Was lovely to see your foraging and local wildlife, such a diverse (in lineage) yet focused (in chemovar) selection of cannabis varietals, your preparation work and vegetable gardening. An exemplary cultivator for sure!
So grateful, especially, to see you sharing your food production. Passionate cannabis growers the world over are direly needed (and imho destined) to involve themselves in local food production.
Seems like only yesterday I was an aimless teenager, only lookin’ to get high as much as possible. One moment I thought I was trying to save some cash and supply a drug habit; the next thing I know I’m looking back on a decade of dirt under my nails from farming produce.
I’d grown up hearing talk about ‘the gateway drug’, which leads unsuspecting youth to trying harder things. Turns out it’s only a garden gate that leads toward lifelong labours of love.
One to another, cheers my friend. Have a great season. I’ll be rootin’ for ya.
Just went and checked a few plants, dug a few more holes and got them fertilized. I had a good surprise, my Sour Bluetooth have exploded. I put these in the ground I think on the 10th, 5 days before I usually start planting out and where the first plants I put in the ground. I love this strain outdoors, it’s extremely hardy, mold resistant and gets big. I must do some crosses and pass those traits on
Thanks for dropping by @seven_trees. Glad you are enjoying the thread. It’s really the only way of life I’ve ever known. I’ve been growing this plant we all love for about 4 decades. My use has definitely went from getting high and the party life to medicinal and I have discovered the true magic of the plant. I think it has probably helped more people get straight off of hard drugs and alcohol than it being a gateway drug. I do agree with it leading to that garden gate…it all goes together for me.
Drop in and grab a chair once and a while, we’ll burn a fat on and talk hillbilly organics for a bit…thanks for stopping by
For special occasions, I’d put rolling papers in there and type out various word and phrases on the joint for fun. Here, I dug up an old photo circa 2009 of my Irish, Star Wars-loving step-father:
I think I need to track down another typewriter, and roll up some honorary Bullskinner joints.
This genius idea came about when I was managing The Dalewood Pub in Port McNeil, drinking two double-screw drivers for breakfast with khalua+bailey’s and coffee for lunch and a six-pack of Budweiser for dinner, followed by Jaggerbombs as needed around 10pm to make it 'til 2.
Weed will certainly help get ya off the liqour, but in my experience, without liqour the general frequency of absurd, verging-on-genius ideas diminishes substantially. Chemical obliteration of rational faculties is the first step toward innovation. (ie. trailblazer savants such as Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, etc.)
I don’t drink anymore, except in the winter. I refuse to prune the orchards alone while standing in snow or 6" of water without having a 6-pack on me. At a beer an hour, the day flies by.
Just remember to wear kevlar pruning gloves…
Let’s play a hillbilly organics game called, “Where’d you find that mulch?”
I’ll start:
I found that pile of horse manure on the side of the road. Didn’t have a bucket. Used the shirt off my back as an improvised tarp.
Soaked 16 Space Monkey seed for 24 hours then put them in paper towels. This pic was at 40 hours after drop. Looks like I’ve got 15 of 16 getting tails. The only one that hasn’t cracked is real small. I’m going to do a mother plant hunt through these. I also want to thank @anon93244739 for donating the seed to make this hunt possible
