Hammered the mushrooms agian today, I didn’t take pics yesterday but found about 2/3 a bread sack. Yellows are up good. Rain and 80° Wednesday will probably pop what’s left and it will be over
Mighty impressive sir. That’s experience there.
Thanks @Badger, Hunting the same 1000+ acres for 50 years helps. All of the last mess came off of dead red elms. I cover a lot of ground in the bottoms looking for those dead elms. I literally go from tree to tree hardly looking down between trees. I want those elms that are just starting to slip the bark in the top of the limbs, if it is slipping on the trunk I should have been there last year.
A lot of my early mushrooms came out of set aside fields that where mowed with a brush hog last fall. They where full of small cottonwood trees and I have picked pounds out of those fields. I’m sure that’s why they are there. I never pass a dead cottonwood or a fresh cut stump, sometimes one stump will produce pounds
I did a lot of work Tuesday. Hauled in approximately 250 gallons of aged sheep manure. It is the from cleaning out a barn with about 10 years build up of manure, hay and urine. All pushed into a big pile outdoors. I dug in deep and got the good stuff
That’s gonna grow some good stuff man. I need to find a good source of local, composted manure.
Worked about 20 holes with several more to go. I need to go back to them all and add more organic fertilizer soon and let the animals do their digging before I plant. 20 days from now I can start moving plants out… excited about this year, can’t wait
No doubt. That looks like a nice, secluded spot.
Both of the areas pictured are spots I have used for many years. The soil is pretty good anyways but I try to add to my holes yearly.
I hate to admit it but I also had to go and spray some Roundup also. Some of the areas are starting to get overgrown and I desperately needed a knock down. I also sprayed a couple new areas to get the fescue killed. It will sure cut down on the work this old man has ahead. I do not like using it around my food or smoke but sometimes a guy has no choice, ya gotta do what you gotta do
I met this guy along my travels, I waited and waited for him to put his legs and head out better, it just wouldn’t cooperate with me. I don’t think I’ve ever seed one so orange
Also went by a ginseng patch. They are just coming up and are looking stellar
And an added bonus that I found along the way, unexpected…I wasn’t looking but I’ll pick them, I was needing a break from digging holes anyway
Had another good day hunting the elusive morel mushroom
They are about finished and it’s a good thing, I’m getting behind on things and have a lot of work left before I put my plants out
Looking awesome
Sweet man! Plants look great and those mushrooms are cool looking!
Sorry but I’ve never heard of these ones before; just for cooking i imagine and not the hallucinogenic ones ?
Them are morel mushrooms they are hard to find and really good to eat.
Hey @Leaf they are the shit and @Birdredeye was telling you right. They are just a wild fungi that grows in the woods around a lot of the country but they dont hunt and eat them everywhere, Im my neck of the woods everyone hunts and eats them. Men get shot for getting in another ones patch. We bread them in flower and fry. They are only up for 2-4 weeks at most and some years hard to find. Ive never sold any but they go for $40-80.00 a pound
@Birdredeye I just wanted to say Welcone to Overgrow and Im glad to see you here. Youre going to love this place. Finest bunch of people you will ever find.
