not sure but what it starts as is the fan clicking a little bit, after it clicks for a week or 2 then it shows up on the controller going up in speed but wont reach the set limit before it turns off and restarts about 15 seconds later. once this happens you have max 2 weeks before it stops working all together. i own 4 of the oscillating fans and only use 3 in the room, 2 bad out of 4 with one only being used for 2 weeks out of every 3 months is a bad sign. at least they ship a new one and then have you send the old one back after receiving the new one. so key is if you see any of those signs happening replace your fan asap!
Bummer, was just about to buy one of these. I guess I’ll keep rocking the $7 Menards special thats been going for two years.
I really thought these guys would be the ones to figure out how to produce a quality oscillating fan, but I guess the wait continues. In the meantime non oscillating clip fans can be found for cheap and work great
Out of curiosity, do the defective fans work without the controller? I had an issue with mine not working on the controller anymore. I likely got it wet with some foliar sprays.
The first one did not. I just saw this one on bluetooth last night showing it was off. I’ll give it a Check at lights on, it will probably run for a few minutes and then crap out again like the first.
OK so got into the room to check out the clip fan. So yesterday the fan was restarting and then after a few hours it wouldn’t start again unless unplugged and plugged back in, starts and stops before it reaches setting. You could hear the fan turn off and then back on every 5 seconds. I go in there today and the fan is on, nothing on the controller. So I switch the usb cable to a working oscillating fan and it works fine. Switch cable back and same deal, nothing on the controller. So this fan is going bad but not totally bad yet I guess. Ac infinity already has another on the way for replacement. 2 out of 4 bad fans should be a sign though. I won’t buy another ac infinity oscillating clip fan!!! What a waste of 200$.
I’m not an ACI fanboy by any means, but flip side is I’ve had 2 of the oscillating fans running since they released them, no problems whatsoever. I do rest them 20% of the day as the manufacturer recommends, and make sure the travel of the fan isn’t impeded by sucked in tent walls. They connect up with my controller fine.
Your mileage will of course vary, maybe it’s the luck of the draw, who knows. But they don’t all break in 6 months, mine are evidence of that.
No problems with 7 of their cloudline fans (2-4", & 5-6") and no problem with their non oscillating fans. It’s not user error.
And they “rest” 50% of the time. So again not the problem
Not suggesting user error, didn’t mean it to come across that way. Hopefully your replacements will be trouble free good luck!
the first replacement is only about 2 months old and working fine. this is one of the originals as well that was a pre order when first released. i will say customer service is great. i sent them an email and got a tracking number before i even got a response from them!
are you using their controller 69 by any chance? wondering if somehow its the controller doing something to it… who knows.
i have 2 controller 69’s and this is the same one that the other fan broke with. so could be controller issue… this is the 69 without wifi.
I have both Bluetooth and a WiFi Controller 69’s, both work fine with my fans. The oscillating function isn’t accessible via the controller so I can’t immediately see any connection with your failures. I’m sure the problem is the same that’s plagued these type of things for years, which is the gears stripping.
At $50 each I’m sure they can afford a few warranty claims but they can’t do that forever. So I figure time will ultimately tell - if they keep selling them it tells me their failure #'s are acceptable to them. If they pull them from the market, I guess that’s our answer.
I’m slightly confused, is the failure a communications issue between the fan and controller or something else?
Cheers

No the fans. But they work sometimes and sometimes not. It’s something with the oscillating part. The one I just removed works now(temporarily) probably from removing it and not caring about throwing it around. But it will take a full crap again soon, but I already have the new one being delivered Wednesday.
I’ve used controller 69(2 of them)same issue
The original controller for the cloudline t6 and s6(one digital one just has lights)
Oscillating always seems to be a problem, I’m sort of giving up on oscillating.
The best results I’ve had was 3+ years of semi-constant duty, and that was a 12".
I had hopes when I saw they were coming out with clip-on. I figured if anybody would get it right it might be ACI… Oh well…

Maybe they will make some upgrades to them, or maybe if just really unlucky. I can hear another one of them clicking now so time will tell. The 2 non oscillating fans from them haven’t given me any problems.
They are definitely an ‘engineering’ company (as apposed to the typical marketing driven operation) so I’d expect they will address it.
Coming from a manufacturing background, I’m interested in the actual failure mechanism.
yeah… once a nerd, always a nerd…

I wish they gave you a way to stop/start oscillation through the controller as well!
Update… oscillating clip fan #3 is now dead… these things are junk. Glad the new replacement showed up yesterday. If I disconnect the fan, plug it back in and turn it on(without controller) it turns on and runs fine for a short period(last check was 1hr) and now dead again, it stops to the side and seems to power off/die.
edit: noticeable differences in the old(6 months max) and new clip oscillating fans.
old fan(stiffer power cable and power cable exits the side of the fan)
new fan(power cable is very flexible, power cable exits the bottom of the fan)
I just hooked up a new ac infinity cloud ray, won’t lie it doesn’t feel like a $50 piece of kit, it’s very light and the plastic feels cheap, it doesn’t move much air and if flow is adjustable at all it’s not without the controller. I’m actually kind of mad about the purchase, I could’ve got a different poorly made fan that doesn’t require unnecessary “smart” hardware. The more I think about it the angrier I get, it’s some bullshit for real you gotta pay an extra $70 for a controller to have full functionality over an already overpriced and heavily hyped product. Their ceo is now on my list of people who I will fight on sight if I ever meet them
