Cloning from a flowering plant. Tips n tricks? Do’s & Don’ts?

I’ve always understood one should try to clone from plants that are not flowering, but I know it can be and is successfully done.

If you’ve done it, what’s are your tips and tricks? Any advice?

I usually expect a clone to take a couple of weeks to root and am happy when it takes less. Will a clone started in flower take longer?

How long should it take for the cutting to return to vegetative growth after returning it to 18/6 or 24-hour light?

If you get them before 2 weeks you’re usually ok. I would suggest 24 hour light for at least a couple weeks. As long as you don’t see pistils start to heavily develop you should be ok.

I won’t go more than 18 hours of light. Proper misting while the clones are developing roots is crucial.

Can be done same as non flowering cut Ime.
Best to revege. Plants start growing new shoots straight out of buds

On my last reveg, it took about 12 days in the cloner and about a month for new vegetative growth to show up. I like seeing the whorled phylotaxy when successful.

Just re veg the plant with 24 hrs of light until it shoots new growth. I would say no, don’t do a clone from a flowering plant. My exp is it does not work too good.

i have cloned from flowering a bunch of times both in third and fourth week (and this time around i just took a snip today in 5th week, but obv have no idea how that will do)

problem is… its slow (for it to reveg) and its low success rate. for example, right now out of my 5 strawberry headbands i took 2 snips from each from each plant in week 4, and the two cuts from plant 1 and 3 have rooted. 2, 4, and 5… we’ll see. from my 2 smart moves, 1 has already rooted.

i see better results with under developed, young, top, and/or new growth.

the rest you prob already know… antimicrobial, rooting agent, all that, not needed but might help.

I’ve taken clones up to 3 weeks of 12/12 many times. They always root, but are more likely to grow a bit weird for a while ( single leaf etc. )
I use a bubble cloner. No dome, no misting and plain tap water. 18/6 light schedule.
This is the same way I root any cut.

Same experience basically, as long as you take the cut first couple weeks, and assume it’s going to be 45 days for it to root and resume “normal” growth, should work fine.

I have taken cuts from low branches on plants far in flower. Aim for low bud to leaf branches. More leaves. Don’t snip leaves like I see lot of people do. Reveg is usually a month. But 2 weeks of that is getting roots. I’d keep 24 hr light on em so there’s no confusion.

Sorry folks idk what happened, my connection isn’t great.

I deliberately wait until they’re 4th week into flower.

It takes ages for them to re veg giving me time to flower, dry and test the mothers before wasting my time with plants that suck.

Aka monster cloning makes it easy to keep them very compact.

I can’t remember exactly how old but circa 3 months.

In general they can take a bit longer to root but it’s generally quite straightforward.

It’s not the greatest method if you’re in a hurry, im working 1 crop behind so that’s not a problem, I’d probably still do it but not take them as late in flower, i don’t want the job of looking after vegging plants for the duration of flowering.

Interesting that you wait 4 weeks after flower to take clones. I usually take clones once they show sex. Why do you wait so long?

Yeah but then you have to light it, feed and care for 8/10 plants growing rapidly for the duration of flowering, i wouldn’t have the space, a monster clone keeps the genetics with minimal space, light and feeding.

You also get some crazy branching, personally i wouldn’t flower them again I’d only clone them.

After re vegging and in flowering.

Im not sure if I’ve a pic from the top?

check out air layering if you want to take late clones.

You can root clones on the plant then cut them away, it’s absolutely fool proof I’ve used it as late as week 8 and got roots .

I re-veg under 16/8 with success as well.
