Evening Folks, just wanted to drop a quick report on my Chem 91 S1 from @GCBudz .
As always, the opinions expressed in this report belong solely to the author and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Overgrow or any other group or individual. Any similarities to plants living or dead, is purely coincidental. This is one plant (data point), your mileage may vary.
The last three grows have been single plants due to the madness at work. Our jars have been full from past grows, so we’ve just been keeping one going to stay in a groove and on a schedule.
I have two packs of these from past auctions and have been itching to drop at least one bean to get a “chem” under my belt. I won’t bore anyone with the seedling stage. This is my standard 10-gallon, tall grow bag in a 4’x3’x8’ end of the room. I believe this pick was either just before or just after the flip
She was healthy and vigorous throughout the grow
She had quite the stretch. You can get a feel for the size of her by looking at the scissors lying on the net on the right-hand side
It’s impossible to see because the light is so bright, but she had really dark, almost leathery leaves
She had almost no trichomes on her leaves, but I wasn’t concerned at all. This is how the older strains used to grow
By this time, I disconnected the charcoal filter from the scrubber to get a sense of her terps and all we smelled were play-doh and caulking compound. Not super loud, but we needed the scrubber
Here she is right around week 9 1/2. Buds are super dense and heavy and she’s leaning hard, even with the stakes
By this time, Helene had been raining down on us for the better part of a week and I started to get nervous because the dehu was struggling to keep the humidity in check and I knew these tops were dense. I grabbed the step ladder and checked the tops and my worst fear was confirmed
I decided to take her down. She was almost at 10 weeks, but I wanted to take her to twelve. The damage wasn’t as bad as I thought, but it still ruined 3 really nice tops. By now, the weather had turned and it was really dry, so after a week of hanging, I trimmed her up. I found one more small spot of mold on a top, but the vast majority of her was fine. I bucked her buds down as small as I reasonably could out of an abundance of caution. Some trim pics
Growth - Very easy to grow. Vigorous all through veg and flower, and very healthy. Fed her dry amendments roughly every two weeks. She had zero intersex traits. I know GCBudz says to keep an eye out for them, and I did, but there were none.
Appearance - Beautiful. Super healthy, dark green leaves. Stems are really strong, but the weight of the flowers will eventually bow them. Dried buds are really dense and rock hard.
Yield - I didn’t weigh anything, but I filled six, 32 oz wide mouth jars and given her density, I’m sure I exceeded our target of 10 zips.
Smell - Play-Doh and caulk during flower but dries into an old school dank smell. The Mrs. and I both agreed it was very reminiscent of old school homegrown bud with a touch of skunk. I hope the Play-Doh smell comes out in the cure. GC described her smell perfectly, “she smell like weed.”
Taste - Old school funk.
Quality - This is where she shines. The Mrs. always sneaks into the cookie jar before they have time to cool and when I got home from work a couple of days ago, she said “Wow, she kicked my ass today.” That’s always a good sign She hasn’t had a proper cure, but she’s an ass kicker for sure. She has a touch of creeper to her as well. I thought she was a little “light” until I felt my arms tingle and my face started going numb. She’s been a real pleasure to smoke.
Final thoughts:
I’m going to run her again, but I don’t have any desire to cross her out. She reminds me of some of the old school strains we used to grow, and I want to preserve that essence. She’s been a breath of fresh air after smoking all of the fruity, fuel strains we’ve been growing. I’m curious to hear what @SEMOActivist thinks of her. His looked exactly like ours.
(Edit: @SEMOActivist not SHSC-1)
Hope this helps, happy growing!
