I really appreciate that. My grow is all tied up, but I am glad to know some are in the hands of a preservationist. I got so excited to see both of those strains listed but they were gone so fast.
Gerry is the best. I just sent him some stuff he asked for including the Cryptic Guerrero, so expect some fun stuff after this season
I’m glad I met him, yes Gerry is a quality person. Everything from him is what he said it was. I did get angry about the old Panama Red from 2016.
100% germ rate but there’s like 4 phenos of Indica’ness.
ACE seeds needs a slap for misrepresenting this as a sativa. I did isolate the phenos and bred together the most Indica.
I started them out the gate on 12/12. Sexed @ 4 weeks, bred, waited, at 75 days old harvested 300 beans.
I then re-veg’d them successfully and here in the first days of July they’re stretching away.
Hoping for flowers for winter now.
The most sativa pheno’s went straight outside for flowers. They’re not worth much, to bred them, too tainted.
That’s a beautiful looking plant.
There it is,
hehh hehh hehh.
Looks great, I’m use to sativas from 1976 on…
I just picked up THHaze and WoW that’s what I memorate…hehh hehh.
I stuck a toe in the CS pond earlier this Spring and purchased Lao Madre. As freebies he sent a pack of Queen Mother. The Lao description/pic is now gone from the site. Does anyone remember how these are different?
I bought the Lao because they were said to be some of the fastest flowering stuff he has and because of the description offered. Glad to see some reports that back up the claims.
I originally planned to run a few in my big hoop but plans changed…but I did pop 6 of each June 1 to take a peek. If things play out I’ll run them next year outdoors in larger fashion.
Germ rates were good. All the QM’s shot big tails and 5 of 6 of the Laos did the same. Out of 11 plants there were only 2 males. LOL…I’m usually on the other side of that ratio! (thus I run mostly fems). Solo cups>1gallon>sexed>then into 2 gallon for the finish.
Lao- these are the tallest/beanpoler’s…LOL. One has a red stem that no one else has.
And there are a couple that are really starting to try to bush out
QM just starting to bud. 2 others have barely initiated/are gonna be slower.
Everything will have to be finished indoors but I’ll keep em outside as long as I can. While they may finish fairly fast…I’d forgotten how slow they are to go. No worry. Just hopin’ they play out cus I haven’t grown a really good, trippy plant for decades now…since the SSSC stock/clones faded from view.
onward, through the fog
That red stem may surprise you! Male or female?
Everything in tow is female @Grayeyes . Yes…could be fun! Time will tell. Thanks for the reply.
@Stiickygreen Plants are looking great. Can’t wait to see how they turn out for you.
I have that Queen Mother in storage, it’s nice to see her in person. I’m into repop’n sativas so your posts helped me move her up on the list!!!
Something so simple can bring so much joy.
Thank you Stiichy.
Not so unusual. Plants that want to be big, Malawi for instance, often have large fans during veg. I have seen it also with SEA strains.
Yes Sir!
I picked up working on Malawi x Candyland from Texas and every one of them had wide leaves in veg but all were narrow during flower.
Even the TomHillHazeF3’s had wide hybrid leaves the first few weeks then after that they all ended up becoming dangerous jagged thin blades. °o°
Queen Mother/Lao Madre
Apologies for the HPS glow in the pics. It’s gettin’ too cold to leave em outside and see any real growth…so we’z old schoolin’ these to the finish line in the tent. (OK…there are 2 LED panels in there as well so I’m not sinnin’ er anything)
My last pics were sept 6th and things were dropping into flower. Kinda backtrackin’ from there 'cus I truly didn’t make note of the day I saw em start…but I’d say these initiated flower sometime around Aug 20-25th.
Was gonna scope em out this AM but it’s raining cats and dogs out there so didn’t wanna get soaked going to the greenhouse to retrieve it.
I think I’m getting close. So…some clear/some cloudy is where I should be with these? (I usually grow indicas and make hash so never worry about trichs/etc. that much)
“Better” shots (in the scheme of things) All I have is a big zoom lens and it’s hard to get a decent focus. I hope you get the idea.
Queen Mother
Lao Madre
Terps are interesting, for sure. The QM’s seem to have a bit more of a bitter/sharper edge. One has an almost mothball stank. The Lao Madre are a bit more subtle/maybe some spice. Everything is greasy and the buds sparkle.
Trichs are about 60% clear, 30% cloudy, 10% amber. I think it’s a go.
Gonna be interesting to dig into these and see what the differences are.
No smoke report yet…but wow…there are some interesting terps in these girls.
Especially the Lao Madre. One smells very chemmish…almost like bug spray/etc. Another smells like some sort of new rubber…like tennis balls/new shoes. There’s also a mint’ish thing going on underneath it all. Decent bud formation with medium density. Kinda foxtailly down low
The Queen Mother plants were more consistent. More of that tennis ball/rubber with some serious sweetness/mint undertones. Good bud development. More consistent bud formation down the stick than the LM.
Just thought I’d let ya know cus I figured you were on the edge of yer seat…waiting…
Thank you for the update as well as the pics!
Heya OG’ers!
I thought I’d update again on the Queen Mother and Lao Madre after having a bit of time to puff on 'em.
I struggled with fully identifying the sweet smell from these at harvest. The closest I could come was an Amnesia Haze clone I ran circa 2000 or so here in Colorado that supposedly came from across the pond. Both the AH cut and the QM offerings have a spearmint’ish/sweet/almost varnish type smell. The taste is mild but pleasant. Not super terpy/notewothy but a smoothe/sweet smoking bud for sure with a decent whiff from the jar. While not completely my thing…I notice my wife grabbing the QM jar quite a bit. Decent frost. Decent “jar” appeal.
The Lao Madre had more varied smells at the onset w/less of that sweet/AH type smell. I now notice a slightly bitter…lime-type smell and a slight aroma of some sort of bug spray. Not a deep “Chem D” stank but in that same zone if you know where I’m coming from. Very noticeable/interesting when you crack the jar. You kind go “Eeeewww” and then you take another smell LOL.
There was more variation in the Lao than the QM regarding bud density/size but both had decent buds for the size of the plants I grew/the lateness of the season/etc. ON a larger plant with a larger root mass these might get good and fat.
Both are certainly buzzworthy weed…but neither offered the “mystical experience” the seed description described. Pretty even keeled and slightly energetic but not trip weed/etc. Even so…it was a fun/interesting grow and well worth the $$$ Gerry asked for the seeds. (bought the 20 Lao and the 20 QM were freebies) Thanks for reading my speel. I hope you have some great luck if you grow a few of these out!
