Lots of balls.
On OGer the encore thread they are talking about it.
They say 2 hours. If that’s so then I’ve been doing serious overkill. I dusted, paper bagged, let sit for 5 days, removed bag and sprayed lol.
It’s what I read soooo
I’ve read a lot of posts about it and the general consensus was 2-3 hours will work just fine. I’m sure I will go longer. I’ll go maybe 4-5 hours just to be sure.
No one’s asked but I thought I might be able to contribute a little information about the pollination process.
Pollen first…pollen should be thought of as not only the male ‘germ’ but also containing a little packet of nutrients. Pollen in dry conditions (low RH) desiccates fairly quickly and is killed. In liquid water (rain/sprayed) pollen bursts (simple osmotic pressure). In nature pollen is shed in voluminous amounts and over an extended period of time…nature’s way of overcoming the odds.
The pistil (stigma/style). Pistils love high humidity, and sufficient hydration will extend the stigma/style viability. On the other hand, hot/dry conditions will quickly dehydrate and desiccate the styles ending any chance of pollination.
The act. The stigma forms and matures at the apex of the style. It produces a stigmatic fluid that is somewhat ‘sticky’ to attract and hold pollen. Stigmatic fluid also provides ideal conditions for the pollen grain to burst and empty its contents. So far so good… now for the important part!
Pollination can only occur when a pollen tube can successfully grow from the stigma all the way down to the ovum. We tend to think of it as a ‘one and done’, however many times it requires several pollen grains to rupture on the stigma (all contributing their nutrient packet) before a successful pollen tube can complete the task. Also, many of the pollen tubes that do form are cork screwed and never reach the ovum.
So, it takes viable pollen to land on a receptive stigma generating a pollen tube that can grow down to the ovum before the style desiccates to score the touch down! It’s no wonder that the ‘pollination’ process in nature takes place over an extended period of time…there’s a lot of hurdles to jump there!
Don’t know the context of the conversation, and again no one asked…but thought knowing a little about the physiology involved in the process may help with your judgement calls! FWIW
Great info! Thank you! I learned a few things from that.
Lots of color. I’d be pollenating something too.
Thanks. That explained it very well.
We were discussing options for pollinating individual branches selectively without pollen being spread everywhere and how long to leave the bag on the branch during the process for best % successful pollination.
Nice. One day I got to try that. Making fem seed.
Its much easier than I thought it would be so far.
Awesome to see Coyote’s grow.
Dialed in as usual
Thank you brother!
There is something to be said for a full tent.
That’s a beautiful sight! I’m loving how healthy they are looking.
Thank you brother! They are stretching like crazy, I should have flipped a while ago, but I was waiting on the reversed girl to show me some pollen, but now everything is aligned to make some midnight snack fem beans, so I’m ok with tall plants lol.
If you end up with more than you need of those Midnight Snacks I would like to be on the short list.
Maybe I have something you want that I can trade for some. I love me some evening relaxing buddage and fem seeds are the bomb for someone with plant count restrictions.
Most definitely brother, if everything goes according to plan, I should have a lot of them, I plan on dusting both of the non reversed midnight snacks. Plus I should get a few off of the reversed girl as well.
You rock!
Thanks.
If you ever see me creating something you want, just shout.
No problem, and I appreciate the offer, but I have thousands of seeds lol, I’m only after a select few, c99, Durban poison, critical mass, or 9 lbs hammer.
