Lol Never heard of Northern Lite. I’m sure it is just a spelling error but now a days…you never know. :man_shrugging::joy:

This is loosely going off what I’ve gathered.

The majority of people would agree that Seattle Greg is the creator or keeper of NL. He had a crew in the pacfic northwest that gave nevil the first cut of NL. Seattle greg and his guys said the true way they spelt it, was northern lites not northern lights.

Seattle Greg just recently gave a bunch of seeds to Nspecta and Matt Riot to do a seed preservation run.

I remember listening to a podcast and hearing something very similar to what @Pier_Rat already shared. It was said that Greg mentioned it was always spelled “Lites” and the confusion initially started when Nevil printed up his seed catalogs as Northern Lights and the world has know it as that spelling ever since. I had already gotten some from Todd’s reproduction before I knew Nspecta was working with the line and even though I already have some I still want some from CSI/Pirates of the Emerald Triangle because I think they put such a beautiful awesome energy into their projects.

This has to be one of my favorite threads to visit and see updates and new comments. Full of everyone so stoked on the quality genetics and freebies, it’s so rad! The recent orders were nearly busting at the seams! Ordered a couple packs and they sent levels of magnitude more. Humbled and grateful for their thoughtful and kind generosity.

@snizzyy threebies! That’s so funny and witty  I really appreciate you sharing that. Much love

Greg never made anything. He said so himself. Idk why people keep saying this.

Greg’s buddies made Nothern Lites. The original US line, not from the dutch. Greg sent Nevil, Steve Murphy’s seed line, the “Purest Indica” before todd touched it. Nevil crossed it with his Mazar-I-Sharif and sent the resulting beans back to Greg as Northern Lights #1. Greg dispersed those beans and his buddies made the other NL lines. Later Greg sent the new Northern Lites lines(1-11 or whatever you wanna believe there) to Nevil. Nevil again found his chosen cultivars and then backcrossed to them repeatedly to make Northern Lights 2 and 5. There is a US#5, Northern Lites #5, that Nevil never touched and has remained here in the US the whole time.

So tldr;
Lites = Stayed in the USA, never touched by the dutch
Lights = Dutch grown, from Nevil’s work

This is what I thought was true after reading many stories and seeing people argue over it a lot as well.

Thanks for confirming it for me man.

I thought CSI wouldn’t have a fake version hence the true spelling of lites I’ve seen people say not to trust those Hawaiian Lites hybrids on RIU conversations because of the spelling. So stupid.

I’d rather do my homework than say that a strain isn’t the real deal because of the spelling which was correct anyway! I just don’t understand the way some folks think…

It’s amazing how many influential lines go back to northern lights of one kind or the other, it’s great to see these genetics becoming available to people again.
Now somebody please find me Ortega’s Kush 4 , I remember CSI did some work with a plant that was supposed to be kush 4 but don’t remember what became of that project , anybody got any info on kush4 beans or projects going on out there ?

Yeah that’s one I and Rocket have been wanting for awhile now. Take D’s NL2 line to it and see what pops out

Here’s a pic from bodhi of it off breedbay

I believe Bodhi got the cut from nspecta or vice versa and used it in some things I have but haven’t looked at yet:

DLA 9 (Kush4 x 88G13HP)
Kush4 x SSDD

Sadly the fact is that no one really knows what Kush4 looks like except Ortega and Nevil. Ortega supposedly sold this Kush4 cut years later for $20k and there’s talk its not the real deal used by Nevil. Unsure even on relation.

There’s also a less known Kush #1 to go with that Kush #4 that no one talks about either…

If he never publicly stated what it was then only those close to him might know. Could be any landrace kush or a cross of one to one of his fav plants, I was hoping somebody might know something but it was a long time ago.

This is helpful to try and wrap my head around, I’ve heard the same that Greg wasn’t necessarily growing and breeding the lines as much as others in his group and friends circle but he is the one who reached out to Nevil after seeing his seed catalog advertisements in some weed magazines, or something like that. I was always confused how the Afghani #1 got into the Northern Lites while trying to piece together it’s history. I just assumed and figured the NL crew ordered seeds from Nevil and used them and had never even considered it could happen another way. I appreciate you for sharing this stuff. I love cannabis and the varieties and learning more about it’s lineage and history.

It’s really forward thinking of CSI to use the Lites spelling, to differentiate from the earlier dutch work. Hope everyone is having a chill day. Much love
