Dequilo's 2021 grow some indoor fun:) closed 3/32021

I’ve been interested in the topic of DNA lately. How stress of a person or animal can cause biological alterations in there offspring. I wounder of this occurs in plants as well.
I wounder if not just being grown from tissue but also being stored can translate poorly in future plant offspring.
Im sure that being grown from tissue the plants is happy to be alive, but im sure it had to fight hard to stay alive.
Clones definitely seem like the way to go hands down. Seems more natural.
I’m curious about organic hydroponics. I understand that that it is more difficult then synthetics. But why?

You are speaking of DNA methylation?

Interesting subject.

Tissue Culture, particularly micropropagating, most definitely has a place in cannabis. How many of us have received dirty cuts? Mites, thrips, PM, HpLVd, etc are prevalent in cuttings that get shared.

I think that getting sterile cuts will be the way to share elite cultivars. I do agree, however, that it does not replace cuttings as a means of production, however.

these people are doing generation zero Hemp Tissue Culture

it does but cleanliness in this case is next to Godliness

you can contaminate Agar in a second even just planting seeds

when you remove the Mristem you need at good microscope to remove it

as close as you can get to removing the newest growing tip the better off you are

as the cells at that point are undefined

grow them divide them and grow divide them more keep them in motion

and they will be undefined cells forever

long term storage is work and cost money taking a stem cut is more cost effective in a

greenhouse/commercial setting as it so much faster, so much easier and

you do not have be as clean also cheaper

but if you want an exact plant to start your cloning buy a tissue culture

and grow a stock plant

take good care of you mothers and it can go a long time

I worked for a Dutch grower in New York when I first worked in the industry

we were taking cutting to propagate Geraniums off stock plants that they had

kept for years and years

it takes work and when ADM, Cargill, Monsanto, etc

get into the game they will (fuck you legalization) show us all what can be done

That’s pretty cool looking buddy and yeah you bit the nail on the head, if you can’t keep a mother /clone nursery clean and free of contaminates your chance of keeping a lab sterile is slim.
If you get tobacco mosaic virus or that hemp virus your in trouble but I see people killing mom’s and abandaning grow sites because of something simple to get rid of like russet and or broad mites. I on the other hand can takes clones with those critters and have them ready to flower in less then two weeks using only organic methods and never see them again. It’s all on your skill set , attention to detail , and understanding how to deal with things appropriately.

GMO is what they want to do without over sight and that will wreck our

biosphere sadly

we now only grow I believe 7 different kinds of Wheat if we have a Rust

the grain could be gone

the big players are getting a pass as all our Corporate Masters do

by this they get out of regulations

just like Vaccines in the USA they are not a drug so no need for the FDA

the are biological

The CRISPR used for the right purpose is great in the hands of say

Joseph Mengele it could be a problem

After being beat by a couple European Seed Banks I will buy no more seeds

I will make all the beans I can and give them away

I will find the best Mothers I can keep them takes cuts and give them away

I will do everything I can to put beans for free into every hand on Earth

So Seed Whores Beware I will get you and I am why you are afraid of the Dark

So let the games begin

I promise this on the pain of death

So it is a Brand New Year and a Brand New Decade so it is time

for a Brand New Dequilo

I just got out of Seed Whore University with a degree in Do Not Support Seed Whores

so I will need to work on some skill to fully use what I learned at school

I need to learn to pick the best males to use to make beans

how to save and store male pollen

I need to learn how to pick the best females

the best patience’s on keeping and caring for mothers to take cuts

better sanitation and better over all organization skills

learn to keep better records and do better labeling of plants

Oh but I will learn and I will ask many many questions and you all My Family

you will help me to stay on the right path and learn

I am 60 years old as of December 4 th 2020 and I will use every day of my live that

remains to Over Grow The World and put every bean I can in every hand I can

and every cut I can also

at no cost if I can and I think I can so I can

for me this will be the year of change but change I shall hacking the weed for me is great

but to share I need to do better and I will because I want to

all the best and make beans

I kinda understand what you would want to look for in females for breeding. Big Nice Buds!
But what do you look for in a male? Besides the fact that if you have a short female and you would like her taller you would give her a tall plants pollin.

@LilJonB But what do you look for in a male?

See my Friend that is a very good question as most just shit can there males a first sign

of balls

Here are my thought but that being said they are just that

I first look for a male that has the structure (build, space) for the purpose of the cross

I am from the school of breeding that says we breed for the betterment of what we are breeding

dogs and horses

but with plants it should be the same

for a male can I put it in to per flower and than take it back to veg ? is one thing I look for

as to height males are tall because the tallest boys crosses the girls

so for me I would need a painfully short girl to use a very tall male

will it sit on my bench not flowering at 14 hours of light?

if I rub the smell do I smell the smell I am after?

what are the roots like? does it have a nice strong stem and branches?

or Noodle Branch Syndrome

I could go on and on but you get the idea and you can believe I will post whatever I do

that is why I have always done a grow thread so I can post my bullshit all I want

make beans and share them

Have considered seems a community bank
And vetted would be ideal. OG seed bank lots of contributors
Community test form a non profit. Need a pack artist, a security seal, packaging and good genetics.

I’ve angled the business end but the reputation and skillset of breeding thats… well ya…

Lots to talk about here ^^

I’m new to breeding herb but it’s been a passion of mine since I was a kid.

Obviously we’re growing for the girls and I’m assuming we’re talking about breeding selectively.

So in choosing a male, I’m looking for the one that most resembles my chosen female or the pheno I’m wanting to proliferate. If no males match the girl, get more seeds. If the male has what you want but no girl, take the closest girl to match him.

If you have multiple males with the same traits then it’s a bit more difficult. You can be more selective but my understanding is you should not choose the male that starts flowering first. I don’t know why exactly, just all the breeders say it’s a worse cross than using the 2nd fastest male to flower. Definitely check if stem rub matches your preferred girl/pheno. Check the leaves, serrations, structure, literally every single little thing and compare it against your preferred girl and the other males.

If you still have multiples, best case you would hit a separate branch on a single girl with pollen from each male on their own branch, and grow out the seeds and see what produces the best results. There’s your keeper male.

When I chose for my NL5HSS it was really simple. I only had two males, one that strongly resembled columbian/haze genetics, stem rub extremely close to my keeper girl just a bit spicier, similar leaves but bigger and more blades and serrations, identical structure, easy af to grow and clone and no complaints.
The other was kushy, ss or nl5 leaner, similar stem rub to my keeper but more bland, less blades on the leaves, fatter leaves, complained the whole time, so he got chopped.

Now If I wanted to keep the #4 girl that was also kushy, obviously i would’ve kept that other male instead as he very closely matched her and not my #5 girl.

I could’ve used the #2 male on the #4 girl to continue working that line but I didn’t. That one pheno shared between the #2 male and the #4 girl was full of complainers. And I want to work that haze side.

If I used the kushy male on the haze girl I would’ve essentially made open f2’s of the line instead of actually working it selectively, with a worse male. So for my seeds, the #4 vial, while likely leaning towards that kushy nl/ss girl that was the mom, are going to be more like f1’s than selective f2’s, using my better hazier male. But the #5 vial should be a lot more nl5haze leaners.

It really depends on what you are spraying them with and when. You have to be more careful what you spray when they are flowering.

I spray my outdoor ladies, once a week, at least.

Thanks peeps! That was alot good information. Never heard much about what to look for in males.
@HolyAngel I liked the idea of pollinating a female with different males to see what one comes out better. I feel like that could save some time.
As usual, its always a pleasure! Thanks.

So we’re going to open up a seed bank!

something I believe

money appears to do bad thing over time sadly :frowning:

I would guess OG has that

that is very good as that is a thing that will kill quickly

on the beans it their reputation and breeding that needs to shine

it can be learned thought practice as it is the best teacher in all thing

very good thoughts and thank you for voicing them as I love to hear them

side not I spoke to a youth who bought feminized beans GG#4 from a bank somewhere

and pay 12 US Dollars a bean plus shipping from someone

and got 2 males out the three he bought under the LED light he bought from Walmart online

Legalization at it’s finest

make beans and share them
