Today I decided to start the process for another batch of tinctures and edibles, since I’m starting to run low on infused coconut oil and just ran out of infused extra virgin olive oil. I decided to try using mason jars this time after reading some test results showing that decarb in a deep bed better preserves terpenes. Based on this set of test numbers I decided to do 240 degrees for 50 minutes.

One ounce in each quart, lids made of a few layers of heavy duty foil and canning rings, with a small paring knife stab to vent a little moisture, mostly because I didn’t bother drying down this herb from 60% RH curing humidity. This is some Purple Zebra x RKS/Uruapan from Swami, I had a bumper crop of it but not really loving the smoke or potency. I’m keeping the best tops for a long cure to see if that helps at all, we’ll see. I think that I should have let them go longer than 70 days, but also not sure if that would have helped much. So that means I’ve got a few ounces of bottoms to cook with, here we go, going to put one oz in grain alcohol for tincture and sugar/gummies and another in coconut or EVOO or maybe half and half.

Will you be detailing your extraction methods as well? I’m intrigued.

Updates from the factory:

Hung a couple 23w 4000k LED shop light strips that I have a stack of in the flower tent to fill in the coverage a bit more evenly, now we’re up to almost 600 watts of LED in there, that’s nice:

And my Cherry Unicorn, looking better after I think I successfully diagnosed a calcium deficiency and hit it with a strong dose of NFTG Demeter’s Destiny. When I topped it I dropped the cutting into a cup of water with fulvic for a few days until it sprouted a few roots and just buried it in some coco mix soil with a Recharge watering, let’s see how that goes.

That Cindy is ALL colas! What’s a beauty. What are her terps like?

She really took to some harsh training- topped then the four main stems broken over in late veg and tied horizontal, ended up that nice nuggy basket I’m always aiming for, though she’s spindly! Flopping all over the place, smells very fruity, I think it’s a funky pineapple richness with some grapefruit juiciness at the moment.

Sounds like Cindy! Where’d you get the beans?

Fleur de Mal! I ran through a pack of Hazeman’s Cinderella 99 over two grows and liked it but it’s way different, I like this one a lot more so far in the vigor and odor, and it’s looking like a much bigger yielder. That other one was good, and definitely nice and up and fruity, this one’s gonna be next level, I can tell already.

Gotcha, thank you! I’ve got a pack of peak seeds Cindy (F2’s I believe, from Floyd), so it’ll be interesting to see how they compare. I’ll be sure to tag you when I pop em
In the meantime I’ll live vicariously through your thread.

Here’s the next step completed thanks to all I learned over in @ReikoX Not Your Average Tincture thread.

-Froze the jar for 24 hours, along with a pint of 190 proof grain alcohol. Then smashed the nugs with a silicone spatula until they were mostly a shake texture, poured the pint over it, washing the kif off the spatula in the process, and put a standard one piece jar lid on. Shake thirty seconds, put in the freezer for three hours, shake again then strain once it settles back down, maybe an hour. I use a fine colander to get most of the plant matter back out and dripped, then toss it. Then I run it through a gold mesh coffee filter into the Pyrex baking dish to get this:

Nice crystal clear golden wash, no chlorophyll or waxes here! I do try to carefully pour off the settled first filtration through the gold filter and leave behind as much as I can, since the hazy bits will make it through. Paper would work better but I don’t really want to lose any more to absorption so I let it settle and pour carefully.

I tried this technique a few weeks ago with some un-decarbed sugar trim from my Ancient Goji and made a really terpy one that hits muscle pain right away without being very heady. This coming harvest I’m going for live resin tincture with fresh frozen for my un-decarbed, I think the terps that way are remarkable, if my first attempt is any indication.

That’s going to get covered for tonight, then tomorrow I’ll use a hot water bath to reduce it. I put it into a double boiler setup in the basement with a fan in the room, put cheesecloth over it, and just keep changing the bottom water with fresh, almost boiling water every hour or two until it reduces down to 10-20% original volume. I don’t drink anymore, so I’m looking for a potent tincture I can sink into another drink and not get the alcohol. A couple of drops isn’t going to get me intoxicated, but I don’t want the taste of liquor in my mouth.
