Veg tent got repotted up to 2g pots a few days after a topping, and got their lowers cleaned up today. Much more room in the veg tent now, and a nice bushy
flat structure is starting to shape up, without any LST yet. These will get potted up to the 7g smartpots the minute flowering finishes, if I don’t go get more before then. I should probably have two sets, but the plan is to transplant, crack some seeds, and flip to 12/12 a week later. If I get more smartpots I’ll make sure to give them two weeks before flip, but that’s about as far as I want to go.
That should look sharper. Looks like both are starting to milky up, a few days ago they were both sparkling and now they’re starting to look more frosty.
I describe the technique in a post from about a week ago, but I’m using a 1960/70s manual Nikon 50/1.8 reversed and held against my phone camera, with 2x digital zoom to reduce vignetting. I just have to get the general distance right from the bud (about an inch) and then the autofocus in the camera (or my eye if I’m using it as a loupe) does the rest. The hardest part is a steady hand.
Thank you! One of these days I’ll get a USB microscope but for now this works well. And yeah, I’m super happy with this run, it’s the first cycle so far (fourth ever and first in the basement instead of attic) where I’m looking at it and seeing all top shelf buds. The learning curve is steep, but it’s fast!
This is my new light, all wired up but I have to fabricate the frame before I can hang it up in the veg tent. It’ll either need to be hung high or have a potentiometer wired on before I use it. Dual QB96 engines from HLG, running at 160w each off of a Meanwell HLG-320H-54B, with their ridiculously awesome pin heatsinks. Planning to mount a pair of AC Infinity 80mm USB fans for active cooling, although this shouldn’t need it unless I move up to a bigger driver, it’ll let me not worry about making sure a tent fan is always blowing on the driver and heatsinks.
I figured I’d share this completed page from last month on my growroom calendar to answer questions about watering and feeding. The abbreviations should be obvious for everything except the NftG line like Athena’s Aminas, Gaia Mania, Herculean Harvest etc. I’ve only been tracking the flowering tent for the most part, but next seed sprouting I’ll track those from the beginning too:
When it comes to consuming what I grow, I’m getting more into tinctures and edible oils, but still primarily a smoker with some vaping on the side. Until lately I’ve been smoking out of titanium (Dangle Supply and Quiver Fabrications) and joints almost exclusively, but I just picked up a pair of nice inside out pipes from @davidjamesglass on Instagram and I’m enjoying the hell out of having some heady glass again now that I don’t drink anymore and won’t be smashing bowls every six months.
The Plenty is a hell of a vape, little slow to warm up, but basically a Volcano in a portable format. Straddles the desktop/portable divide nicely, in that I can use it in bed or on the couch with its 6ft cord, and take it with me to a friend’s house. Huge 1g chamber, works well with the concentrate pad for a smaller bowl but a full sesh is heavy hijinks, I love it. Very cool smoke from the metal whip. Probably going to get a Dynavap soon though, for the portability and also so I can have a little rip as I get into bed without getting the whole electric setup out and heated.
Just pulled my latest tincture wash, from about an ounce and a half of Purple Zebra/RKS Uruapan. One ounce of decarbed bud and about half an ounce of raw, QWET washed with a 24 hour soak and a quick wash at the end with fresh cold alcohol. The bottle already made is going to my father when my mom visits today. This will come up to room temperature and then tonight I’ll start evaporating it off with a hot water bath in a larger Pyrex dish, cover it when I go to bed, and finish tomorrow during the day and bottle it up.
You soak qwet? And still get it golden. Do you smoke it ? Or is there some reason I shouldn’t. I been making everclear shatter like extract but I smoke the chit on top my bowl. Let it melt down in the bud. I just let evap for couple days first. But I don’t hear lot of ppl smoking it most make things like you are.
Haven’t smoked it yet, though my first batch evaporated down to a hard resin that I could have purged and dabbed. I’m using it for alcohol tincture at the moment, and soon that for solvent transfer to oils and sugars. I’ll probably get around to dabbing some before too long, though!
Question for you, do you save the abv to toss in your ethanol washes? Nice new glass. I have a crafty+. Go Storz and Bickel! Oh one last thing, nice qb96’s! I had the same idea for cooling with the little ac infinity fans. Have the qb’s, some 150 and 185 watt drivers. I was thinking of driving them soft and running them at 75 or 92.5 and splitting them on each driver. Like you, i need to build a frame. Cheers.
I don’t really vape enough to have a ton of ABV, I’ve used it in oil extractions before but not in an ethanol wash yet. A lot of it ends up getting blended into spliffs instead of tobacco, or to mild out a strong strain when I want a mid day joint that won’t be too much.
I am looking forward to seeing how the QB96 engines do, I read a lot of good reviews of them but it seems like they haven’t pushed them in any premade lights, as the market has moved more towards light grids instead of COBs, which I always saw the QB96 positioned to compete with. They have impressive power ratings when actively cooled, I think I’ve seen people running a single one up to 200+ watts.
Edit: I just looked at the specs and an individual QB96 is factory rated for up to 225 watts with active cooling, HLG had a 315CMH replacement for a while that ran something like that with fans maybe? They seem to have moved on to more big quantum boards at a lower density instead.
