So update to this as things have progressed, this summer we have RKS by the Alaskan cannabis cache, super skunk from the seed bank of holland (old head cut), sebrings ancestral, purple unicorn by bodhi, Skunk 1 ibl from 88 stock direct from Sam the skunkman to Mel frank himself.

Your quest is not unheard of. Tons of trial and error. I beilve, like you do. I think just as recessive as say maybe tall Afghani strains (just an example) thereā€™s some skunk in a large enough pheno hunt.

As a community of growers and chuckers and breeders, we should begin a ā€œSkunk Squadā€ and maybe the rest of the community could sample our progress.

We already have something going onā€¦ :wink:.

We wonā€™t be using ā€œSkunkā€ related crap either.

You got my attention
Dying to hear why wouldnā€™t you start with some skunk ? Is it all that bad ?

No real RKS will ever be found in that line, pretty sure Sam just made that shit up for sales.

Think about it
Colombian = not skunky
Acapulco = not skunky
Afghani = maybe a little skunky but most likely sweet acrid.

Thereā€™s some stuff up our sleeves :wink::zipper_mouth_face:

So itā€™s close then ?
Already testing things out ?

Not yetā€¦ 20 charr

Itā€™s what was used for the super skunk line. Mel frank is getting ready to release Afghan 1 again. @Jamescoldflame was already on the idea that is was the Afghan t that really lead the way. These are reproduced from the 88 stock Sam gave mel. I have some faith the familia ties are In there. I just need him to give up that last piece lol

Itā€™s a recessive trait from a high altitude region thin leaf Afghan

Some Afghans do have sweet notes, but there are definitely some that absolutely stink of death and/or meatā€¦ Itā€™s just really limited to a specific region. I personally am beginning to wonder if the true ā€œskunkā€ smell comes more from some unknown Mexican thoughā€¦ Maybe not Alcapulco Gold, but I know for a fact there is a Mex that smells very gassyā€¦ But im not sure what it isā€¦ maybe gurreroā€¦ Maybe something inland towards the harsher desert areasā€¦ Colombians arenā€™t skunky, but can have a certain pungent sharpnessā€¦ Panamas especially can carry a very lime and pine like smellā€¦ Colombians can have that too, which could potentially accentuate the gas smell. I think the mix of afghan, colombian, and mexican could have funky skunky, acidic kind of phenosā€¦ You also have to think about what was around back in the dayā€¦ Iā€™m pretty sure Skunk was out there back in the 60ā€™s, before there was the branded name of skunk #1ā€¦ What was widly available? Mexicans, central asians, and south americans. SE asians donā€™t generally lean skunk, so vietnam war souvenirs likely arenā€™t the culprit. Africans are also pretty much a ā€œno wayā€ scenario. There could be other landrace strains that might do it, but I donā€™t see any of them having any more of a likeliness than the overall accepted formulaā€¦ Now whether or not sacred seeds ā€œinventedā€ it, is another matterā€¦ Sam was in with the crew who supplied people with seeds, so there is the possibility, but nobodyā€™s ever going to be able to say definitively until real skunk is found again. I know somebody has itā€¦ It was still around in the early 2000s, and I canā€™t believe it could just totally vanished over the course of a few yearsā€¦ But maybeā€¦

Temporary respite per op.
