Mood:
The color looks normal to me, but Iām a light feeder. lol As long as they arenāt lime green I figure all is well.
About half of them look better today, wish I had snapped some pics. Thereās a couple that are much lighter than Iām used to still and lighter yet in the interveinal areas, and one that is looking like it has a calcium deficiency or something. I donāt think thatās what is happening, but if you picture that youāll be close to what Iām seeing. I consider myself to be a light feeder when they are older, but I feed basically the same throughout so I guess that doesnāt apply at this stage
I guess they donāt look too bad, and they seem to be growing very well, Iām just one of those people that worries a lot when they are so young, lol.
I appreciate the input, thanks for having a peek
After looking at your setup, I decided to order some of those Floraflex pots. Iād been considering them for a long time, I guess I just needed a little push
If they arrive in time, I may even use them on this run. As fast as these seedlings are growing they are going to outgrow my little cab soon, so I hope they get here ASAP so I can plan how best to make use of the new pots in my setup before that happens.
Awesome - I had good luck in the first grow with them so Iāll be running them again also.
@lefthandseeds can input as well, heās been running them for a lot longer but recently turned me on to 2" to 3" taller pots with a 6" diameter that will let the flora cap sit on top. The reasoning I believe is that he felt the roots can get pretty bound up in the height of these pots. I think medium and watering can play a lot into this as well.
I havenāt actually run a full 4 week veg in them yet which Iām going to do now, so Iām anxious to see how that plays out.
Those rain bird emitters you linked look incredible I think Iām going to give those a shot and just run the flow head without the flow limit plate inserted. I had more of a slow trickle at 2gph (going to 8 lines) than my buddy did running it; I actually emailed their support but heard nothing back, kind of a bummer on Floraflexās part. I think they probably serve big commercial operations more than the individual.
Iām not terribly worried about plants being root bound, as it tends to work in my favor. My feeding style kind of depends on it, and it helps me keep the plants a manageable size in my limited space. My last run left me with eight twenty-four ounce canning jars full, plus enough kief to fill two pill bottles, and the plants were less than three feet tall.
Totally agreed! I canāt even give it away, literally. Not worrying about yield is a nice thing to remove from the equation.
Iām still trying to decide on feeding schedule now that I have control over the pump down to the second level with complex intervals. I like your advice of just setting it up so the pots are light by lights on.
These are the ones Iām going to use on my next grow:
Iāve been using the 5" square pots for a few grows. Theyāre 0.5gal, but you need the 4" floracaps for those. These 6" pots will just fit the tabs of the 6" caps inside the pots, and theyāre ~$0.70 eachā¦ which is the main reason I use them. The 6" square pots are 0.75gal, and I think thatās going to be the ideal size for me.
Thatās a pretty good dealā¦ I may have to rethink this
Yikes, that shipping speed is horrible. Maybe next run. These look almost perfect for me, though.
Lol yeah the shipping time is pretty horrible. I had to order these well in advance of my next grow, but Iāll be putting them into service in a few weeks.
Hereās what they look like with the cap on in case youāre interested.
The pots I have now look like they would fit according to the measurements, but they are cheap and flimsy. The one you showed looks sturdier, and I like the drainage better than mine also.
Do you have a local hydro store? I get those same plastic pots at mine and yeah they are dirt cheap. They are fairly sturdy, Iāve reused them too.
There are several in the next town over, but due to my back problems itās an unpleasant drive on a good day.
Surely at some point Iāll be going by one for other reasons, Iāll plan to stop by and see what they have. Dirt Cheap sounds like my kind of price
Speaking of back issuesā¦ There is a lot of routine maintenance that I tell myself āI donāt feel up to that right now, Iāll have to do that after this cycle is completeā, and sometimes I even actually do it.
And then thereās stuff I donāt get around to for three years, and itās way past due. I built four of these 110 watt DIY LED fixtures back when Cree COB fixtures were all the rage, and Iām pretty sure this is the first time I really pulled it all apart to clean it up properly. I obviously live in a house with way too much dust
So embarrassed. Iām happy to report that they are looking great now, though
Iām cleaning up everything in the room. All surfaces, all fans, everything I can. Itās about time, lol.
Weird question is the pack marked as what seed is what or is it a guessing game on what is what
The FDM packs? Not marked at all, just luck of the draw it seems. Good thing that C99, Thai, and Durban are all genetics that Iām interested in, I guess
The hydro store I have here is like a porn store to me, even though I grow outdoors! lol They carry everything and they price match! Just wish they had online ordering. I can spend hours in there.
Hey, at least you get to show off all your hard work to people who understand. LITFA! The struggle is real!
DAY 14 (From germination)
Hereās a reminder of how the plants looked two weeks ago:
Hereās a group shot from this morning (Low picture quality, sorry):
I believe that these are the two A11 x (F13 x A11) plants:
These are the first four of the FDM Cinderella Mix:
This is the FDM that was sprouted several days later:
And finally, the GG4 S1 that was sprouted a few days ago to fill the last available slot:
Growth rates are good, even if the plants still arenāt looking their best. They had been recently watered in these pics, hence the drooping. Prior to that, the largest ones were praying.
Iām currently cleaning all plumbing, reservoirs, and all related bits, so the plants were put into the green tray for watering. Still have not decided whether to hook up the automated feeding, or just hand water until they are ready for transplant. By the look of things, it wonāt be long before I have to make up my mind.
At some point today Iāll probably break out the pH pen and get it recalibrated. Once I get my recipe down I rarely use the thing, and Iām using a new formulation now so itās time to dig around and see if I can find it, lol. Might recalibrate the TDS pen too while Iām at it. Iāve got the temperature issues solved, but still having issues with insanely low RH% in the room. The humidity issue may not be solvable in a practical manner, tbh.
It looks to me like the HL seedlings are the happiest with the current regimen, and the other plants donāt seem to be digging it as much. Thatās mostly fine with me, as the HL plants are the ones I care about most right now. I hope that the others come around and I can find a good way to please them all, but if nutrient requirements or other factors make me have to choose between them, Iād gladly let all of the others die off to keep those two. I will be making seeds or collecting pollen either way, because my top priority right now is to preserve that line as much as possible.
Decided to go ahead and hook up the automated watering. At two weeks old, I still think the plants are much too young to need it, but I had enough energy today and thatās pretty rare these days so I felt I should take advantage of that fact
Iāve got it set up right now to deliver just over 8 ounces per day per plant. They are definitely not drinking that much per day, but if past performance is any indication of future results I think theyāll do just fine. I guess weāll find out over the next few days, eh?
