FFOF, not impressed

If it’s muddy then it’s overwatered. :sweat_drops:

Lol hence the benefits of perlite…🤦 Drainage and aeration… Hahah I water every 5 days typically, doubt that was the issue

Fun experiment though, just gone horribly wrong, was inspired by the cant burn ur plants with it so went with full medium as it, doesn’t work I promise. But feel free to try for yourself with updates I’ll laugh with ya on it

Every 5 days is a lot, I’ve gone weeks without watering.
The kitchenscraps will activate a shitload of fungi, they regulate and hold the moisture, they suck it up like a sponge and release it whenever and wherever necessary.
One failed experiment means you quit before even getting started.

How high are u bro??? I’m in the dryest and hottest part of the country, 5 days isn’t alot. That’s usually from me getting behind seeing plants showing thirst with some wilting and realizing oh shit I should water em lol I’d love to live in a world I can go a couple weeks without having to water, it’s a jungle out there and watering is a pain in the ass right now lol ANY compost is gonna activate microbes and give em something to break down and worms speed up that process so rather put scraps in the worm bin for them to handle

It’s not a failed experiment, it’s physically impossible if your using fresh castings and not bagged processed “shit” like bucket of mud with a wierd consistency when pure and water thrown on. But don’t take my word for it, go do a plant in 5 gallon of pure FRESH castings and make a grow log of it, I’ll gladly watch… Been there done that and already see how that one will end lol

I would have to say that you already covered this part on your own. I like to grab fresh soil from any wooded area that is constantly cool and breezy no matter what part of summer. If you have reptiles living amongst the quadrupeds, grab a shovel. FFOF is a thing of the past.

I hope you have a big kitchen that generates a lot of waste @AzSeaindooin420 :joy:

I water every day. Intervals should always match the needs of the system in place. I use air-pots and depending on the root mass it’s the volume of water that i focus on; most often by lifting small to med pots to feel the weight; or probes when i cannot lift itfor whatever reason.

Not as much as my 12 x 16 greenhouse doing a leaf cleanup and pruning

See that’s a more realistic comment, I’d really challenge someone on watering every two weeks in above ground potting

Odd, I’ve never seen any issues with FFOF, even planting seeds directly into it. Must be luck of the draw. I will say I like Coast of Maine better though. Just seems nicer, but either way I add like 25% perlite to these kinds of soil.

I used it on my first grow and lets just say there are no pics. Didn’t know it was that hot and using the wrong nutes was a recipe for some ugly bud.

It burnt some of my seedlings. I still run leftover dirt. I have a 55 gallon trashcan I just hit it today. That’s a lot of dirt. It has been sitting. It smells so good. It’s got a nice rich smell. You let the micros go to work that’s how you keep your soil.

I let my soil get borderline hydrophobic between watering in airpots :grimacing:

I read somewhere that allowing them to dry out like that was beneficial somehow and that’s what I disguise my watering laziness as

Hell I saved that soil and the misses is growing tomatoes in it.

I’m surprised to hear how much people are having to pay for OF. It’s only $15 here at Grow Generation.

More bitching. Lol
Picked up a bag of Happy Frog yesterday. Needed to up pot seedlings from cups to 1 gallon pots.
This is whats left of the bag and what came out of what I used.

This is just from the Happy Frog.

Been using FFOF for 20 years and never burned a seedling or had any issues in veg or flower.

As far as ‘hotness’ FFOF is a bit too hot for seedlings in my opinion. And for bigger plants, if it dries out you play hell trying to moisten it again. You can put water on it and two minutes later it’s still pooled on top of the soil Sucks
I will not buy FFOF ever again. I always use Happy Frog. It’s not too hot and I can supplement what I need thruout the grow.

I haven’t had the problem of it pooling but my top layer is HF. I just basically guess where the roots will be in each stage. Bottom of the pot is straight OF, middle layer where it’ll be transitioning into veg or already in veg is a 50/50 mix of OF and HF, top layer is a nice helping of HF to be gentle with seedlings. Plus again by the time I water the plants aren’t playing any games wasting a drop.

My complaint with both is I’m paying for lumber that I don’t want in my pots.
Also not enough perlite, but I can add that.
