Well… that’s a good thing, I guess.
I was racking my brain about how I’ve never noticed aphids before. I’ve grown a fair number of plants since 1998. Then I realized. I bet AzaMax kills those suckers. I sprayed that stuff all over for years, and I bet it just killed them before I saw them.
Don’t use AzaMax no more, hence the aphids.
But I do have some. Since that’s a seed plant anyway, imma go on the side of the house where that plant is hanging out, and spray her good.
So how do people fight aphids these days?
I use insecticide soap and squeeze them
The aphids are now under control, and some nice seed bracts are developing, especially on the s1’s, but there are some on the floRidaxf1durb too. Maybe even on the gelato cross, but I can’t really tell. Those have been slow in the cold.
Speaking of cold, we have a freeze warning at night for the next four days. They slept in the shed last night. Should be a lot of cool sun today and then maybe the garage tonight.
So far, so ok.
Seed bracts?

Just a few seeds, but a big step toward a regular cookie line. Let’s hope I can bring these in!
You can do it!!!
One little spot of bud rot picked off after rain at the start of week 3 after pollination. Overall looking good going into week 4. Froze last night but I put them in the shed.
Edit I mean going into week 5. Four weeks down.
Plants took some rain the last few days, but they look decent so far. Kind of worried about rot over the next few days. They are a few days short of six weeks, though, and unfinished seeds are no good to anyone… so here’s to a sunny, breezy morning here in Northern California! We’ll see how they look this afternoon. Ideally, I’d like to go a couple more weeks, but we will see.
I’ve been here before . I hope you were able to get mature seeds out of these efforts
Outa
I hope so too @DietPeps
Thanks @Emeraldgreen @TopShelfTrees1
Yesterday was day 51 since pollination, and I woke up to more rot on the GSC. Three or four total spots. I put on some gloves and went to cut it off, and a bunch of pretty decent seeds fell out. I will be discarding these, but they look pretty done to me. I’ve harvested and grown out beans a lot greener than these. These fell out of one rotted bud:
I made the decision to pull some of the seeds out on sight. I went for it and pulled 30 or so seeds out of a couple clean buds. They are drying in a shoebox.
Then I checked a bud on the F1 Durb. Wah wah wah. One light, round seed and some seedlets. Probably let it grow a few more days.
Will take a few seeds from gelato cross today. It looks loaded up.
Granola Funk and Space Cake did not get pollinated, as they were behind. All 7 plants I started with were females (ok 2 were fems) but thank my higher power that @bigzach87 came through with the pollen!
No matter where it goes from here, I got the GSC backcross I wanted. Success!
Looks like I will have at least some to share, too!
Congratulations on the successful seeds. Personally I’d give them a gentle wash with soap and keep the seeds out of the rotten bud. Happy for you
Great news! Ya I would do like @Emeraldgreen says, you can make a little cup of h2o2 wash as well, glad it was a success bro! Nice
That’s awesome! I’ve been really enjoying some Minty Dub bud from that male’s sister! Can’t wait to see what this stud produces!
Thank you
I went ahead and gave them a gentle bath with some peroxide and then some dilute Dr Bronner’s. They are too nice to discard, you’re right.
Glad to hear about his sister! I’ll shoot you some beans if you send your address.
Thanks again
Quick update:
Only get a few minutes here and there to harvest these seeds, but it’s coming along.
GSC cross: at least a couple hundred nice seeds
Gelato x HP cross: not one seed
F1 Durb cross; approx 30 pale/ish GSC type seeds
Bando (loompa hb x Nigerian sativa) cross: Tiny plant loaded up with big, dark seeds
I just look at stuff like this as the universe pointing me in the right direction!
GSC S1 cross is dried and packed up! Going to send out packs I promised this week. I have a few more packs (let’s say 5) that I can send out, if anyone wants them. First come first serve, obviously.
There really aren’t enough to share the other crosses, but maybe if someone really wants to grow.
Nicely done bro!
@DietPeps I’d love to take some, if that’s cool?
