It’s one of the 2 types of Sodium Sulfate. I think Sebring said it means 5 waters. The other form doesn’t contain any water. So with this type you use 4.9 grams compared to 1 gram of the other type.
Plants are looking really good and stacking up nice, looks like its going to be a successful run for you!
Straight Sodium thiosulfate, Na2S2O3, requires a lower amount by mass for the formula whereas the more common anhydrous form, sodium thiosulfate pentahydrate Na2S2O3·5-H2O, will require a higher amount by mass due to the fact that the Silver strips the thiosulfate ion off to form the silver thiosulfate with the byproduct of sodium nitrate during the reaction. The anhydrous form moves slightly more water into the solution.
Basically, you are matching every two silver atoms to one thiosulfate ion for silver thiosulfate Ag₂S₂O₃, while matching a single sodium atom to every sulfate ion for the sodium nitrate NaNO3. By calculating the atomic mass of each molecule, you can calculate the ratio of mass of each reagent within the reaction.
Which is why the anhydrous form takes more by mass than the straight form. You take into account five water molecules by mass and adjust the formula.
LOL, it’s cool man, I get it. Was never a question in my mind But that was a good explanation.
Thanks for the explanation . I didn’t know it was sodium thiosulphate, I thought it was a different chemical.
FWIW here is what I did recently
Made new STS. Mixed 490mg sodium thiosulfate (pentahydrate) in 50ml distilled water (B). Mixed 80mg silver nitrate in 50ml distilled water (A). Mixed A into B. Put 7.5ml of the final mix into a 75ml spray bottle, filled it with distilled water.
And I used less than half of those 75ml for one plant, spraying 3 times. I would have made even less but I’d need a better scale
It’s easy my brother. If a dumb ol country boy like me can figure it out, anyone can
Gary
This is awesome you’ll definitely have success with the Fems %
Your plants are looking crazy healthy. I love the look of those fan leafs too !
Hey @Kushking902 , looks like the action group agreed to keep this one in the co-op as a fem run so you can keep the genetics alive. Let me know if you want me to send you the STS chemicals.
Great news!
Pz
Thanks co-op action group for a great decision👍
Nice! There you go
That’s AMAZING news! If you could send me a bit that would be greatly appreciated. I won’t be home for 2 weeks so it’s not something that needs to be sent now😁 thanks @DougDawson and @coopactiongroup!
No worries, just let me know when you are ready for me to send bud.
Huge issue at hand with this run. Been having a hell of a time trying to keep these happy today I noticed some bugs on the stem. I made a huge mistake of bringing my outdoor indoor without washing the buds right away. Now my Indoor coop has white bugs on the stem. Not sure what they are because I’ve never had anything other the fungus gnats indoors. If I take clones and wash the clones is it possible to continue on or will this be an endless battle?
Looks like aphids mate.
Aphids methinks
That sucks dude I’m in the process of bringing some of our outside stuff inside too and not really looking forward to the possibility of this as well. Luckily it’s just house plant type stuff so nothing that needs to be close to MY plants.
I wish I had some insight for you, but I really don’t. Good luck getting it sorted though!
Are they easy to kill?
You can spray an insecticidal soap, or even peppermint Dr Bronners diluted; they aren’t all that tough, but you’ll need to do it daily for a week or so.
I used ladybugs and beneficial nematodes for my thrips… it worked, but took 2-3 weeks
