Yep there def different that is widely agreed upon , there are also some that are the same but go by different names. The so cal master kush is the main one I would realy like to find and the original purple Afghani.

Iāve actually seen some at that price that were very smokable, nothing amazing but a better value then some of the other over priced products. Most Iāve seen at that price are all small nugs but in packaging that allows you to see the quality before buying. My buddy picked up some cherry pie at $60 after tax and I was surprised it wasnāt bad at all.

I agree that genetoc drift of the same cut caused the different OGās.
I had gotten Gooey Mom from a guy in England back in '15.
It was very stunted and while GoeeyBreeder verified it, he said its definitely become different than it was 40yrs earlier, even though it was just a cutting of the original plant.
I found out it was due to it being cloned with hormones and grown in synth nutes. I worked on rejuvenating it with probiotics, but it didnt bounce back like the Exodus Cheese cut I nursed did.
I also believe that āduddingā in cuts back in the 90s and 2000ās happened because people were growing weak plants with synth nutes which made them susceptible to the poison from broad/russet mites. Notice how dudding stopped around 2015 when probiotic growing became the new norm and synth nutes became stigmatized.
Having seen the same cut of my genetics being grown out in several different environments (both indoor and outdoor) around WA showed me the difference between genotype and phenotype.
So yeah, I think phenotypic variation can be encoded into the plant over time.

Itās possible some of the cuts are due to genetic drift but itās actually much less common then assumed. Epigenetic changes are not permanent and are often used by cannabis growers to explain things with other causes. The stuff in cloning gel definitely has potential to mess things up and that is why I donāt use it. I think 99% of the og cuts are the result of s1 beans or some other type of cross. It was such a coveted cut people were desperate to get anything even close to the original. There was also the whole everybody calling everything kush or og when it was not. Dudding could have been caused by many factors but what we called dudds were the shorter or slower growing plants out of huge batches of clones, maybe some rooted later or were took from a smaller branch. Could have been early sighns of the virus but I donāt recall any hemp virus symptoms. Some plants are more resilient then others, if the ghost is neglected, underfed or root bound it will grow thin branches with mostly three fingers but when she is happy the fives comes back. If she is allowed to become sad it can take months to recover fully. When people take clones from less then healthy plants they produce less then healthy plants , phenotypic expression can be effected by many things. Iām still sorting out why half the time she tastes like lemon + bleach ( in a good way )and others times that is gone and itās pure sour gas.

I donāt believe āsynth nutesā has nor had anything to do with it. Nutes are nutes to the plant, where they come from doesnāt really matter as long as they get them in the proper ratios. I can supply calcium or you can have bacteria break down the organics to deliver that very same calcium cation to the roots.
Maybe noobs wrongly applying synth nutes, or using something with a mutagen in it, but not the fact of the nutes themselves 
As for the lemon+bleach or straight gas, Iāve seen that flip flop depending on the nutrients used and/or grow style. Grow it out in organic water only soil with blood/bone/kelp and itāll come out smelling one way, take a clone of that very same plant and stick it in hydro running gypsum+maxibloom and itāll come out smelling reversed of what the soil plant did. So if it was alot of berries and little to no gas in soil, itāll be all gas and little to no berries in hydro.

Iāve had her come out completely different using same nutrients same light with just a slight change to the soil mix, the richer in organic matter mix was straight gas and the lighter more perlite rich mix had the bleach lemon sour combo going on. Also the size she is allowed to become before the flip also seems to effect the terpene production also . Most all strains are influenceable based on enviroment but the ghost cut is one of the most picky and extreme in regards to its ability to perform differently under the smallest of changes. Put a small 6 -8 clone into flower you get a big tall narrow stick of a plant that is great for sea of green , slightly longer veg and top her once and you get a giant floppy bush leaning in every direction.

Different opinions on why she is slightly different then the original but yes she got to ghost1 from kid and then back to him.I believe it to be a s1 more then A plant that changed over time. The man known as ghost is getting up there in age and I donāt believe him and orgnkid talk much anymore. I was on the original overgrow site when orgnkid was putting out the banana og and oger beans, tangerine skunk, xxx og etc. I refer to it as orgkids cut because that where mine comes from and I know there to be other false ghost cuts out there and the one he holds is the same one from back then.

Iāve seen a bunch of people rocking the banana over the last few years , from what I understand jaws has a good version in seed form. I have a some of the ogers beans myself and a few reproductions have been done here so quite a few are holding those genetics. Iāve seen a good cut of the banana still floating around Cali and several bad ones being sold online. I have some Hindu skunk crossed to banana og but I made them in Tahoe many years ago and they may not be viable anymore, I dident have a dedicated fridge for seed storage back then .

Was it more lanky or more of a squat plant, the one I had maybe 4 years ago was lanky as hell but amazing terps came from SoCal , I got one from somebody different and it was a short squat terpless waste of time lol

Thereās one that was circulating in Colorado thatās held closer and is a bit more squat but also has amazing terps
The one I ran from kid was more a classic OG stature but not as lanky as a pure OG by any means.
Both the two I mentioned had amazing terps
thereās an art to getting OGās to yield
