Gramps Out Door Garden

Wow, man. That would sure test my nerves. They are pretty serious about their enforcement there. I think that’s the future for us all. More enforcement.

That was a damn big operation. That’s how the enforcement goes here, although I don’t hear about it near me. They are looking for the big money making grows that are totally illegal.

I guess those guys just figure the law is so stretched thin, that they can gamble by starting again and may never get a re-visit. That tells you there’s big money involved.

Stay safe and hope the heat lets up. It’s here now, too. 90’s here is hot at 6400’ elevation. I haven’t gotten in too deep yet this summer. Nothing in the ground but the volunteers atm. I’m about to start a few more and they’ll be ready to roll once this heat and intense sun settle down. Right now I’m just keeping a few going in the felt pots so I can move them to shade if needed, like yesterday. peace

Same here and forecast for the rest of the week I believe. I came in the house. I’ll go back out this afternoon. It was cool this AM and I open it up and suck in as much as I can, the close curtains and doors till evening. I have an 127 yo house with stucco so it stays cool a long time. But, if it gets hot it’s hard to cool off till morning. Happy growing. How are the plants doing with the heat? Still growing through it? It takes some water, huh? I have to water mine every day and largest is in 5 gal pot atm. They all dry down in a day right now.

Have you been completely soaking your grow bags?

I have a bowl dug around each plant right out to the edge . And I fill with a bubbler until they start to over flow same way forever but the veggy’s I use a wand to apply water to wet all the soil . Except for the strawberries and onions they get flooded . That’s what I love about grow bags excellent drainage you don’t need to worry about over watering . You water heavy and it just passes through and you have real nice moist soil . When the soil on top looks dry I water when its hot like this that’s every morning the wind dry’s things out fast .

Same here with the wind and high temps. Gotta keep an eye on em all the time. The other good thing about flooding till it goes through is the occasional flush of any build up of salts. It’s like a rain for two days. The plants everywhere seems to love a real full watering. Otherwise, I keep mine moist all day and fill again in the morning. If I water good it’ll make it all day.

102 degrees at 2pm and looks like my lady’s love it reaching for the sun . I’m at 2000 feet in the sierra Nevada foothills everything I’m growing is from N. California so they should be able to take the heat .

Sorry girls but no feeding today you can have all water you want. It Never got below 80 degrees last night and it’s already 90 degrees at 8:30 am . The girls are fasting for a few days after my double dosing no need to stress them . Blue Dream Banana Mango Vanilla Frosting Two of each all doing well I’m still hand picking the bugs off a just a couple of tree hoppers this morning . I’m not sure if I can keep up but no real damage yet . 106 degrees was the high a couple more days of this and it starts to cool off .

I was hearing how your area is in some of the worst of it. Been in the mid 90’s all week here, with little wind. We actually dropped to 58 last night and that felt nice. We also have about a 35% chance of rain this afternoon. Just thunderstorms but could mean hail as well.

Supposedly it’s gonna be a tad cooler today but hot again tomorrow. I have some things in pots but I’m convinced I can start seeds right now and never miss that extra veg time. They’re growing slow in this crazy sun.

Oh, and I am starting a new batch. Some are for others who need plants. If I get the same results as last year, I think I’ll hold off planting too early next year. It just costs more in nutes and water for no added benefit.

Stay cool! peace

I haven’t read all the way through, but its on my list. I like what you got going on. I want to do raised beds like that. Ran out of money this year, but I got decent base holes dug and refilled with goodies to put them over next year. Did you make the bags or buy them?

Anyway, I’m posting because of the revegging thing. This year I put mine on I believe 14.5 hours light for a while before putting out, and some still tried to bud. One interesting thing happened though that I intend to experiment with. I had 2 freakshows that I had no place to put. So I stuck them outside a month early expecting certain death. They had temps down to 28 one night, and quite a few around 30. They weren’t tiny plants, so they lived. Some leaf damage along the way. Tops died. I cut them off. All this trama kept them from even thinking about budding though, and when it warmed, they dove straight into hard veg while everything was just getting started. So of course I planted them. They will be my biggest this year
Its got me wanting a hoop house.
here the 2 plants are in the pots on the left. Their future still uncertain, but kicking into gear. I wonder if being on that hill helped with temperatures.

And 3 days ago. The other one is the big one in the center background.

the 2nd picture is misleading/confusing because I put a different freakshow in that same red pot after planting. The one in the red pot in the first picture is the big one planted in the ground in the background of the 2nd picture.

Another warm week and hotter than hell coming . I skipped one day watering because of cool nights and back to fertilizing yesterday 2 tbs and per plant with light watering . I thought I spotted a few aphids went out with a loupe today and I have green lacewing eggs hanging on the fans . And adult lacewings on several plants they should take care of a few aphids I hope . Heavy water today going up to around 105 degrees plus or minus over the next week or so . My Blue Dream hit 7 feet this morning so if they slow down with the heat it won’t matter this early in the season .
