Greasy's Journal

Yeew sounds like La Niña is delivering the goods, nice to hear you are getting amongst it. I guess from now through to March/April is the best season for you guys?

It’s been good here aswell, wet season is finally over so all day offshores are coming back plenty of swell around too. I’m about 40min drive to the good waves in my area so only get in the water once a week, twice max but that’s about to change when we move to Mex in January. I told wifey she can pick the house but 15min max drive to waves is my only requirement.

Yeah, our peak season is now until about March when the onshore wind flows pick up. I’ll take La Nina years anytime, better wind conditions, and more frequent mid size swells!

40 minutes away! Glad you are moving. I won’t live anywhere now that I can’t ride my bike to surf, let alone a long drive! You’ll have to share some photos of what you find in your new place.

Outdoor Update:

The male Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffins are starting to drop pollen. First time I’ve grown out males past showing sex, and I have to say they have their own real beauty to them.

Male 1

Male 2

Male 3 is a few weeks behind the others

I was working on collecting pollen before just dumping the pollen sac on parchment paper and was having a difficult time separating out the plant matter, so I went ahead and purchased a pollen box which has been making things a bit easier

Pollen collected so far being stored in a crock pot with a mini dehumidifier keeping the humidity around ~20% or so

Mini blue dream pollinated

Pura Vida F2 S1 with a volunteer friend you can see just popped out at the base of the stem, who has now been transplanted into it’s own home

I have to invest in a pollen box at some point. Didn’t even know they existed until somewhat recently and then assumed they were for kief since that’s what most people use them for.

Yeah, all new to me too. Kinda pricey for a small wood box, but I’m hoping it will have a long lifespan of use.

@ReikoX I made your green dragon tincture and I am impressed! I’ve been making tincture for years. Starting doing it before I started growing. My lungs can’t handle smoking the amount of marijuana I prefer to get high with, and tincture has really been a blessing for me in being able to consume frequently, without hurting myself. However, the tincture I’ve been making with a scaled down recipe is a lot less professional. I was decarbing the bud at 215 degrees in fear of it getting too dry, did not utilize the freezer in any part of making the tincture, and did not include the second coffee filter filtration step. This product is much nicer looking than what I usually come up with. Also, the marijuana in this tincture came from half ghost rose which you created, and half ghost rose x cookie devil, which I won from one of your give aways, so it really all is credited to you one way or another!

Got a little over 4oz’s just like the recipe states

Look at how clear this is!

This is what I strained out and is what has been in my tincture all these years!

Question here for those with experience collecting pollen. I was losing too much pollen to wind outside so I have decided to cut them down and put them in a vase with water to continue dropping pollen. I put the plants inside the tub I grew my shrooms in, which has a bunch of small drill bit sized holes in it, and then put the top on the tub. Is it ok to keep the plant for a few days like this?

I’ve never tried it that way cuz, so maybe someone else can give you the answer. I myself have a spare bedroom I call the ‘isolation chamber’ lol I stick all my males in there to drop pollen and collect it twice a day until I have what I want. Then it’s to the compost bin with em!
Let us know how it goes for you, please.

I ended up taking the top off as I think it makes it more humid, which would be bad for the pollen. Now that’s it’s inside I’m losing a whole let less of it to the wind!

Zkittlez Bx4 - Ethos Smoke Report Cured 45 days - Grown Outdoor

Bag Appeal:
Not sure if these outdoor buds would compare to most indoor growers plants, but they have some nice frost with medium density. Dried a little quicker than I would have liked as we had Santa Ana winds kick up while they were drying and and that dropped the relative humidity inside my house from 70 to 35.

Smell and Taste:
They smell like tropical sun tan lotion and like a really ripe papaya. Putting the nose in the jar, it’s a really strong, powerful fruit odor. The taste kinda follows the smell, with a bight sweet flavor on the tongue, that leaves that over ripe melon flavor as the sweetness dissipates. I really like it! It’s a big change of pace from most plants I have grown.

Potency:
7/10. It’s not overwhelming, but gets me to a mellow place, that I would describe best as afternoon, early evening weed. It definitely an Indica hybrid, so not great morning stuff, but good to smoke and not feel tied to the couch, but relaxed. A soft body high, and a cloudy head is what I get from this. A little difficult to focus on anything that requires a lot of attention to detail, but good for heading out in the afternoon for an activity with a smile on my face. It really does have mood enhancing qualities.

Overall:
I have five more seeds of this strain, and plan on reproducing it so I can keep it in my collection. I tend to grow more Indica dominant meds, and this is a nice change of pace from my usual sedative Indica. It’s structure and bud density lend itself to growing well for outdoor as I only lost about 10% of the yield to bud rot, primarily on the tops, which is very good for my track record. It stretched 2.5x when it started flowering, so I think it would be difficult to manage in my small indoor tent. This is definitely a hype strain that I feel has some true merit, as it was an overall a breeze to grow, and is nice smoke.

Looks nice to me @Greasy !!! Seems like more Santa Ana wind when La Niña in effect! (Yes, for many years called SD County and South Orange County my home.) Bad for drying medicine, good for offshore winds on the surf!!!

Indoor Update:
Plants are now 51 days from flip and heading towards the home stretch. I have stopped using the dehumidifier in the tent, and no further herms, so I’m really thinking that the little blue light was causing the issue, even though it had been taped over. Had herms two grows in a row, so will be trying to find a different solution than a dehumidifier in the tent moving forward. As for the remainder of this grow, I think I’ll try and take them to 70 days or so see how much they will bulk.

Outdoor Update:

Collected pollen from two Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffin males and collected them into three vials. Have them now in the freezer. Wasn’t able to get out all the plant matter, but had them drying in a sealed container at 20% humidity for a week before freezing. Lesson learned that I should have let the pods mature some more before putting in a vase, as about half the pods ended up dropping off rather than opening after about 4 days in the vase. Still think I have more than enough to pollinate the current plants I have going.

Pura Vida F2 S1

Mendo Breath x Blue Dream has been growing the most vigrously of any of my plants outdoor. She has shown her first few pistils, but hoping she keeps growing a bit more before flowering.

Mendo Breath x GMO

Blue Dream is soooo tiny, but she has been succesfully pollinated. I think I can count around 12 seeds or so formed that are growing on her.

Indoor Update 64 days after flip. This will be the last shot of these ladies alive, as due to holiday time constraints they are going to be chopped this weekend. Had a little bit of a rough time with this grow through veg, but the plants really turned it around to put out some quality flower. Yield isn’t going to be all that big, but I appreciate being able to grow for variety of smoke. I’m really proud I can grow medicine like this all organically, while using inputs from my dry compost, and vermicomposting bin along with a handful of Buildasoil products.

Group shot:

Loompa’s Headband x Triangle Kush is really the star of the show in the tent. She has shined so bright that I think I’m going to my hand at revegging her and see how that goes. Figure I’ll just leave a fair amount of lower leaves on the plant and stick her outside and see what she does.

SFV OG Kush x Bubba Kush has really purpled on me over the past few weeks.

Birthday Cake x Chemdog. I think she is going to be harvested a bit prematurely. Looks like she is going to want more than 70 days with all the pistils she is still throwing.

Tahoe OG x Bubba Kush. My cranky plant that has really never been happy. Upside is the nugs are crazy dense, so what little smoke I will get should be good!

Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffins. So far one plant here has identified itself as male. Hoping that the remaining plant is a lady to make some f2’s.

I have been learning how to make different kinds of canna candies, and have put together some fun gift boxes for friends and relatives this year. We made lemon and orange hard candies around 10mg per, and some caramels which are 15mgs each. If anyone is going to try making home made caramel I highly recommend using a recipe that includes heavy cream. I made my first batch with only evaporated milk as the cream source and there is no comparison between the two in how tasty they are.
