Northern Lights x Orange Grove Smoke Report - Grown Outdoor Cured 65 days
I grew two different plants of this strain, but the effects and the appearance were about the same so will only report one phenotype.
Bag Appeal:
These have a nice amount of sparkle to em, for being grown outdoor, and for having suffered through the constant molestation of me picking through the buds with my hands looking for caterpillars and mold while growing. Unfortunately a lot of my densest tightest nugs were lost to mold on this grow, so a lot of the remaining harvest is a little loose in structure
Smell and Taste:
This strain is remarkable in the sense that it truly does smell of orange peel. I wanted to write this report a few weeks ago, but was actually a little put off by the intensity of the orange peel flavor, and wanted to see as if as it cured if it would mellow out, which it has. At first the orange peel flavor was really overpowering, but now it has lessened into a mellower flavor, which I really get a kick out of. I’ve never smoked any other weed with anything quite like it. It is a bit harsher than any of the other plants I grew outdoor this year, but I find that to be the case with the most Indica dominant strains I grow.
Potency:
This bud is strong, and not for daytime use. The only time I have smoked during the day, I ended up asleep mid afternoon. If I smoke this an hour before bed, I will be lights out and get a really deep sleep from it. Before the sleepiness kicks in, it’s that powerful indica narcotic smoke that I love. The kind of weed that makes you forget about the whole world and just glues you to the couch. It really should be classified as an anti insomnia strain, and anyone that has trouble sleeping should give it a grow.
Overall:
I really like this smoke, I think I will make about 2/3’s of it into edibles as I really love weed like this in edible form. A really unique strain compared to others I’ve grown. The plant was fairly slow growing, and I did not heed the advice to grow in a larger pot, so with the mold, I didn’t get a great yield from two plants, but that’s more on my environment than the strain itself. I think I will try and grow again someday when I can plant one or two in the ground and grow some monsters! Thank you @JustSumTomatoes for making this available to me, and sharing it with the community.
Awesome write up! Thanks for that, I’m glad you enjoyed them and will have relief from sleeplessness if need be. The Orange Grove (the father) is a phenomenal insomnia buster.
Sure is lonely in this tent now. Chopped everyone down yesterday and have them hanging. Won’t pop anymore seeds until after Christmas. Good news though is that I finally got an Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffins female! Took 6 seeds, but I found one. Figured I would keep the male from this batch, and pollinate this plant with pollen from it, and the two other males I collected from last month.
Outdoor Update:
Plants are growing pretty slowly this time of year, but everyone has shown sex, and looks to be slowly transitioning to flowering. Will apply Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffins pollen in the coming weeks to them.
Blue Dream x Mendo Breath. By far the most vigorous of the plants I have outside now. She is also the furthest along and probably has another week or so of stretch in her.
Pura Vida F2 S1. She has such big leaves that she always looks so droopy, but she is starting to branch out nicely under all those big leaves. Has a few pistils, but hasn’t started her stretch yet.
Blue Dream runt. All the moisture and bit of rain we have been having has been really hard on her, but I think I’m still going to be able to get a handful of mature seeds. Two pictured below came off in the storm, and look like they have a reasonable chance of popping.
Indoor Update: Male blueberry plant has been dropping pollen the past few days. Been playing this for the couple in the mornings to get them in the mood, as I shake the male plant over the female: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGOohBytKTU&ab_channel=ellaelise
The male: I really like the structure on this guy. Very branchy. I think of the three males I had this one would have been the one I picked as my favorite, but being grown indoors vs. out that may not be fair.
The female: Also has a nice branchy structure, and has shown a nice little bit of stretch, now on her 11th day of flower. Planning on letting this male do his thing, and then apply pollen from the two other males I collected at the end of week three of flowering.
Outdoor Update: I was out of town for 5 days and the plants got a ton of rain on them out there, but seem to be doing pretty well in spite of that.
Pura Vida F2 S1 - Hasn’t started flowering yet. I wanted to experiment bringing her in and giving her an additional two hours of light per day in November and early December, getting her to 13-14 hours of light per day to see if it would stop her from flowering so quickly, and it did. Transplanted to 7 gallon pot and topped and she is just an unruly bush at this point.
Mendo Breath x Blue Dream - A little further along flowering, and looking like it’s almost ready to get it’s first round of pollen from my blueberry plants. This plant has been really easy growing, and seems like the best of the three to make a blueberry cross with.
Indoor Update: I cut down the male plant and let it drop pollen while I was out of town. Currently the female is at 18 days of flowering. I plan on pollinating on Day 21. This plant is really impressing me smell wise. Stem rubs and she just smells of really fragrant berries. Can’t ask for more there. Looking at the zoomed in bud sites, it looks like there might be a small amount of pollination already from when I had the male plant in the tent, as I see some browning on the ends of a handful of pistils, and the plant hasn’t had any foliar in flower.
Now time for some germination! I don’t have the space for all these seeds, but figure I’ll be doing a survival of the fastest growing plants before flipping.

Made some hash last night from my freezer trim. I want to try making butter with it and see how the effects are different than bud in edibles. @ReikoX do you happen to know if I need to dry it out/ or cure it at all before decarbing? Would be nice to be able to just pop it in the oven without having to keep dicing it up. I figure recipe wise, if hash is 2-3x as strong as bud, I’ll just use 2 grams per stick of butter.

Outdoor Update: Our few weeks of rain are behind us, and the plants can finally start to dry out! Both the Blue Dream x Mendo Breath and the Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffins have bee pollinated with Vintage Blueberry x Blueberry Muffins pollen, and I’ve got a few vials saved away for future use. I have culled the GMO x Mendo Breath as it just wasn’t a very impressive plant so no need to take up the space.
Blue Dream x Mendo Breath has been pollinated two rounds, so we’ll see if it sticks. Only plant shown that hasn’t been trained, as it went into flower so fast didn’t have time for any topping.
