Hash Making Revisited

That was a problem back in the day too.

A buddy showed me a temple ball with white seams through it (Edmonton 77/78). His source told him it was ‘high end’ stuff and the white bits were opium …

ideas of pressing kief ?

ok! Everyone reading this old school thread still, this is what the happz is:

This is what is known as the hashish diagram. Post harvest calyx is checked and determined to be shit. Problem detected? Low numbers of piddly little trichomes with a narrow gap between the size of sessile and capitate.
Since I’m working with a 90 bag, I want to see larger caps, like 120 micrometers. This sample has only a 20micron gap, between sessile and capitate. Also, large open spaces on the calyx surface with no trichome. If I run this material, I expect almost no returns. Half of a percent?
When I say “1 percent” I’m talking about 1% of the mass of the calyx is trichome caps.

I press kief as well as dried/aged bubble hash with a cheap tortilla press on a hotplate. It works wonders. It always hurts my heart to hear how many folks are rolling up wet temple balls. The best way Ive found is let the hash cure in a sealed jar at least 6 months first.

My house purchased had this buried in a shed brand “new” in the box.

LOL, yes, but does it come in blue?

never thought of that !!! thanks - makes sense as long as one doesn’t over “press” it ?

Glad I can help out. I tried it one day outta desperation when I broke my rosin press, and never looked back

Im sure you could over press, but it takes a good few minutes, so youd have to be doing it a long time to do that. Ive found the way to know is if itll roll into a temple ball thats totally sheen and has no lines or anything. Also gotta let it cool a bit before you can roll it, or itll make a nasty mess. Dont ask how I found that out lol

I don’t smoke hash that’s not full melt. My life is too short to waste on substandard product. I’ll be dabbing six star all day long like the crazed one percenter that I am.

It’s all good. We all do/see it differently. I love full melt as well but I don’t “dab” anything. Never enjoyed it. Just a bong and a lighter here. Yeah, I know…LOL

I grew up on the imported Lebanese/Moroccan/slabs of black in the cheesecloth bags. Old school shit. Not 'taneted like so much of the crap today. Talk about a short life.

Thank you very much for making this thread @JoeCrowe incredible info in here.

I just made my first batch of bubble hash with fresh frozen. 140 grams of bud. I used my kitchen blender with just one mixer. I mixed for about 15-20 minutes. During that time my ice all melted. I came up with this on the first pull.

90 on the right, 73 in the middle, and 25 on the left.

Probably should have had more ice on hand to top it off and run it a second time?

I didn’t break the buds up much, should I have? This seems like a disappointing return but maybe my expectations were out of line.

Since it’s fresh green buds, there is lots of water weight so the hash yield is lower. Mathematically, that is. A good yield is 3% in the 90 micron bag. I would add enough ice that it doesn’t all melt, or top it off before the next cycle. The rule is never let the ice run out!

Bonjour 🫎

So I listened to the chat between the old cat from/associated with sambo creek yesterday. I don’t know cannabuzz, so grain of salt there too. It’s on YouTube. I’ll find the link… he talks a little shit about bubble so beware :eyes: but! In there, he talks about his reasoning for why he hangs things for a day or two before freezing or sifting. Apparently there’s an enzyme released at the time of chop. Basically a conversion of something to this enzyme as a response to death and that enzyme makes the heads/stalks separate from plant material better? I don’t know. Just a really interesting thing I hadn’t heard before. There is definitely bias in the interview but it’s fun nonetheless.

It’s just jibber jabber. The truth is mathematically you are getting more yield due to the low weight of dried, or partially dried, buds. That’s what I found, when I tried it.
The downside is the evaporation of volatile organics during the drying process. Fresh Heads!

Doesnt sambo have a patent on static separation?

Anyone can perform that technique, it’s like rubbing a balloon in your hair. They probably have a patent on the machine, though.
