Hidan's brazilian Salty HPS Grow

Greetings from Brazil!
Almost my first post so, HELLO OG Community!

My 4th grow going on, the first one using (almost) only salts for nutrition.

80x80x160cm grow tent.
HPS 400W (dimmable to 150, 250 and 400)
General 6500k chinese 100w led reflector for initial veg period and intercanopy lightning during flowering.
150mm exhaust and 100mm intake.
4 Plants (3 are gift from a friend, a homemade breeding of seedsman Doctor CBD x 24K, and 1 Criminal+ from Ripper Seeds) - Went from 500ml to 5L, and now in the final fabric pot 15L (~4 gallons).

Using commercial mix of peat, vermiculite, carbonized rice husk, dolomitic lime with 5% earthworm castings.

The nutrition is based on Plant Prod (7-11-27), with Calcium Nitrate, epsom salts and chelated micronutrients mix, with my own formula calculated in PPMs by lastest science articles of cannabis nutrition.

Currently in the winter right now, with temperatures between 3C and 15C (38 to 59F).
Plants are currently 75 days from germination, and now 20 days of flowering.

16 days old

43 days old (and twenty something for the smaller one)

50 days old

60 days old and 5 days of flowering.

70 days old and 15 days of flowering

I dont have a photo but in the last days i did some defoliation, basically the lower part of the plant and some huge fan leaves up. Not as agressive as many of the growers, because as soon as the extreme cold goes away, ill be opening the growtent door and put some intercanopy lightning with my LED reflector, so i need the middle foliage to be my solar panels
Gonna take some photos today or tomorrow to show my current status.

Well much water has passed under the bridge, so i wont go into details no, but hope to keep this updated from now on for info sharing and community interaction.

Im specially happy with my nutrition. Although i didnt go 100% for my method until near 30 days from seed. Because of the difference of size betweeen them i went a little relaxed on my nutrient monitoring program through Pourthrough method so the smaller ones could pack some size.
This is a pretty cheap general hidroponic nutrient mix, with great results until now for me.

Well, feel free to comment, to come visit Brazil and enjoy a cold Caipirinha (popular drink).

Many hugs!

Currently in the winter right now, with temperatures between 3C and 15C (38 to 59F).

Well i did found some photos of this week.
Criminal+ had the most beautiful leaves, more than 1,5x the size of my hand.

Its the one from the right upper corner.
It has less Bud sites, but massive Trunk. Expecting some really dense flowers.

I believe im 78days from germination.
23 days of flowering.

Buds ARE slowly packing some size.
Temperatures rising too.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), plants grew bigger than my grow tent in diameter(talk about overgrow), so they are inevitably touching themselves. When i close the grow door the leaves are smashed on the walls.
Good for me a big plant.
Bad for pest pressure and higher fungus probability.

Whent a little relapse in the light schedule as i dont have a timer and i like drinking a little too much. But hey, i Hope a few hours less wont Hurt them feelings.

Also bought me an organic silicon, 2grams per liter.

I forgot to say that im a constant feeder. Gave only water once ir twice in this cycle.

A few photos of them

Flash on

Only intercanopy lightning on

Intercanopy and hps on

Well thats It.

Cant wait for the swell.

Many hugs!

Hello! Plants look great! Very healthy and some 9 pronged leaves also! I’ve been mixing my own salts for a few months now, trying to get my N: K ratio just right. I’m currently running an elemental ppm of
N-155
P-30
K-222
Ca-170
Mg-55
S-74
Si-15.2
Fe-3.2
The numbers are also based off of the most recent cannabis specific nutrient requirement studies I can find. Care to share the elemental ppm your running? I would like to compare them to mine if you don’t mind.

Mine are pratically the same as yours.

I used 180 to 200PPM of N in the stretch period, and still got yellowing leaves, but a lot less.

Now in the flowering i am aiming at 100-150 ppm of N, more like 120 to 140…

My calcium varies between 100-150ppm, depending on my calcium nitrate ratio, which is not a problem since i still got dolomitic lime in my soiless mix.

My P varies from 30 to 45 PPM. Im aiming for more P as the buds swell, as they are sinks for P.

I would say we are pretty much using the same ratio of nutrients.

Got my specific values:

For veg i usually go for:
~120-160 N

~100-150 Ca

~33 P

~156 K

~36 Mg (26 do PP e 10 do salamargo)

~49 S (39 do PP e 10 do salamargo)

~3,1 Ferro (0,7 do PP + 2,4 do micro)

~0,6 Boro (0,6 do micro)

And for flowering (post stretch) i go for (±20%):
~N 120-140

~100-125 Ca

~47 P

~223 K

~51 Mg

~70 S

~4,4 Fe

~0,85 Boro

Edit: I forgot to say that these P values are really P.

I use plant prod (7-11-27) which give us rates of P2O5, which is only 43% of P.
So im using P as reference, and not p2o5
And K as reference, not K2O.

Thanks for the info man, high level information.
Im at work, but already seen a little bit, hot information for sure, will surely have a deep look soon.

I have a topic of my formula in a Brazilian forum, and things that impact nutrition as temperature, strain, life stage, organic complements (its very common to use earthworm castings in Brazil), maybe somewhere in the future i can translate it to be another source for those who like it salty.

I mix my Plant Prod 7-11-27 with epsom salts and micronutrient mix, in the same bottle, for stock solution.
The other bottle goes with calcium nitrate.

Part A+ Part B nutrient solution. very easy to handle and will meet the requirements of every life stage.

The way i mix it, makes every mililiter equivalent to PPMs in this way;
1ml of my plant prod (7-11-27) mix, is 7ppm of N, 11ppm of p2o5, 27 ppm of k2o…

So its very easy to calculate through nitrogen, the ratio of use.

I also use pourthrough method to keep my eC ratio at comfortable levels, so i can fertilize it almost always.

His recipes are very close to what i do too.
Except perhaps the P levels, which he uses 1,5 to 2x more than me.

I usually prefer Going a little bit lower, as P is strain dependent, but never saw an article pointing more than 45-60ppm during flower, and 15 to 30 ppm during veg.

Bruce bugbee says 15 to 30ppm to some strains, and near 45 to others (flowering)
I would strongly advise to raise it to higher end as the buds grow bigger, for the sink effect.

Guess we are all going to the same directions, worldwide, makes me pretty happy to know others are applying similar formulas.

Our ratios are very similar. I used to run P fairly high myself at the suggestion of a commercial grower I speak with. Usually around 60-65 ppm. Then I found the articles by Dr. Bugbee, and a few from the university of South Carolina that states cannabis will front load P from early veg to use when needed in flower. Don’t want to supply an excess so 30 ppm it is for veg with plans to bump up to about 40-45 around week 4 of flower. Awesome to find another salt grower. I can talk elemental ppm and ratios all day!
