Yeah beer is the worst type of alcohol as they use maltose dextrose to feed the yeast and create the sweetness. Which is a fancy name for powdered high fructose corn syrup.
@Shadey and @MoBilly Along with wine, beer isn’t as nearly aggressive to the body as spirits, hard liquor!! Unfortunately, every form and drop of alcohol has a price/health tag!! Had something similar @PhilCuisine! At the time I was drinking lots of watermelon juice, after all, fructose is one more of them… Living has its price!! And we all pay for it!! One way or another!!
If it is any consolation, have just mixed in some azomite, Bokashi, Gypsum, Kelp meal, Biochar…! In soil I mean, thankfully, not in my body!!
Well that depends, spirits are less damaging when its alcohol equivalent is drunk at the same speed and rate as beer or wine, so you would have to drink a lot less spirits over a longer time to get the equivalent alcohol. It has far less sugar than beer or wine, so does not create such a big insulin response causing more liver damage than just the alcohol is doing
Of course, as you’ve mentioned, yet it seems to be common that one ends up ingesting more alcohol in a shorter time ( with hard liquor), at least it is what I believe it would happen, then, more damage to the liver, right!? I’d think so!
I take two shots a day, normally, one about an hour after the evening meal and another near bedtime. That and a hit of good ganja has been helping me lately. I never went in for heavy drinking (not that I haven’t done it). I much prefer a good marijuana buzz. That helps the pain more than booze does.
Yeah you are right, the amount consumed is the key, as with everything if you over consume, it will have a negative impact at some point. It’s swings and roundabouts between the alch and sugar which does the most damage.
Like MO said, a shot now and again for medicinal purposes is the best way to use spirits. That’s how I mostly drink booze, with a very occasional binge session. I do like a combination of a little alch and weed for a good muscle/tendon relaxant when the clonus symptoms get bad.
Well I will be taking my doctor’s advice and slow/cut down on my beer intakes…I know I can do it, hell I quit partying for over 60 days for Lent every year…I will also make sure not to go on a drinking binge before my bloodwork…
I also have to face the fact that I am getting old and not that young anymore…in my younger years I would party my ass off everyday and do coke every night and smoke cigarettes…I haven’t done coke since 1998 and smoked my last cigarette in 2000…
I would to thank all you guys for your personal input on this triglycerides thing, in 3 months I will have lower numbers on my triglycerides…btw, one thing my doctor like was my weight, I lost 40#'s and I plan on losing more and keep eating healthier foods.
Awesome going on the weight loss @PhilCuisine! If you ever want them back… I found them!
So back up to usual two pots of coffee a day now. No sugar. No cream.
I get a 30 minute or longer walk in most days. Added some light free weights on off days and intensified the warm-up routine from cardio. Also doing a half cup of plain 2% Greek yogurt once a day.
Wound up cutting one of the blood pressure meds in half.
Well done!
Out of curiosity, what kinds of breads do you consume? I usually eat rye/dark rye bread but I’ve been reading about Oopsie and Ezekiel breads, suppose to be the best healthiest breads to eat…I know you watch your carb intake cause I see what you eat on the what stoners eat thread…
Well I avoid as much as I can, anything made with grains in, it’s not just the carbs but what grains do to the gut lining as well.
On a carb level ancient grains are thought of as better because of the lack of gluten and specific proteins that are not good for gut health, but still contain a fair bit of carbs unfortunately, because they taste so good lol.
Lupin flour if you want to make your own stuff with a lower carb flour replacing 50 % of your total flour is a good substitute.
If you freeze any bread and thaw it before using, you can reduce the glycemic response 35% and if you toast it after freezing it lowers the response even more. Although not perfect it offers a consellation to a now and again bit of bread in your diet. Smother it in evoo and it might almost be good for you
It’s tough removing these things, and I still occasionally will have a day with a fair bit of grain flour in it, but I notice the congestion it gives me now, like a bit of fluid in the lungs the next day.
It can take time to find alternatives to replace food favourites with something else, but it shouldn’t take you too long with your culinary skills I would think.
I have swapped my bread addiction for 85% dark cocholate now, less sugar and it gives me a happy buzz instead of wheezy lungs, but I still think a french bread, fried egg sandwich is heaven lol.
